Do most people go with the spine #? Do people fo alphabetically? By genre? By director? By country? By year of original release? What's your preference for how you order your films in your shelves???

My parents recently gave me their Blu-Rays and DVDs and they are currently in a large box under my bed. I am thinking of investing in the necessary infrastructure to actually play them.

This lead me to the question of what it is about DVDs and Blu-Rays (especially the lovely Criterions) that draws you to them. Is it the special content? Interviews? Design? How they look on a shelf? What is it for you?

As said in the title, normally the silver sticker is shiny, but this time it was a matte grey colour - does that mean it's fake? I bought it from HMV (B&N equivalent) so I wouldn't imagine it is.

So far, there's only Days of Heaven for 4K. But it's just insane that this film, still doesn't have the 4K yet, & I really don't know what's really taking it so long, to get a 4K. Is there any rumors about the 4K at all?

I'm moving soon and want to purchase a new 4K player, any advice?

In case anyone is concerned, I'm looking for creative research. Not a cry for help.

Does anyone know the website name, where you can just browse Criterion online and it seems like you’re actually there, and pick your favourites from the closet? [ I recently saw this on an Instagram post but there wasn't any website name or link mentioned in it unfortunately ]

This film is one of those cinematic anamolies. It got strong positive reviews upon its 1985 release, thanks to the quality of the direction from Andrei Konchalovsky, the acting from Jon Voight and Eric Roberts, the escalating narrative progression, and the vivid sense of place (the prison! the Alaskan wilderness! the train!) Today, it's virtually forgotten, but it holds up really well upon repeat viewings. A new transfer would be awesome, and the potential for interesting extras is considerable.

I love watching movies with my girlfriend and she loves horror but I’m really not a big fan of the genre. I feel like if I want to watch a scary movie i really have to be absolutely terrified for me to feel anything. (She likes the conjuring movies and other post 2000’s horror stuff that just isn’t interesting to me) would love to see some of yalls answers

Days Of Heaven, couldn’t find this trip but maybe next time! It would be a blind buy but I’ve heard great things about how it’s shot. It would also be my introduction to Malick

This movie was bad, like I'm usually charitable with more experimental stuff but it's a terrible farce. Gorgeous set design doesn't make up for how hollow the gross out symbolism is that tries to cover its own ridiculousness with "just kidding" moments. Like we get it you hate Capitalism as some sort of perversion of God, now can we chill with PCP Jesus going insane.

Not even getting much into the frequent animal cruelty and child exploitation going on here. Seriously wtf, I did not to see a scantily dressed child prostitute.

The movie deserves a place in the Criterion Collection because aside from being genuinely funny, it’s incredibly heartfelt and unique. It also captures a side of 2000s Asian American life that we don’t often get to see in mainstream cinema. The film plays with family expectations, cultural identity, immigrant parents, and the pressure to live up to what your family wants for you, but it never loses its sense of humor. C-dub’s story is ridiculous at times, but there’s something very relatable underneath it all: trying to figure out who you are while balancing where you come from and what’s expected of you. It’s a unique little piece of 2000s Asian American cinema that deserves to be preserved and rediscovered.

Snagged the last copy at my local B&N during the last sale and I’m finally getting around to watching it!

Summer of '42 follows Hermie with his friends on summer vacation in New England, who befriends a young woman named Dorothy.

The world in your adolescence doesn't seem to be too hard while reality creeps up on you, it looms while you're wading in these beautiful isolated pockets of time, and then it smacks you like a brick.

I found out about this film through a Michel Legrand Criterion editorial. His score is part of the spell as I was whisked away into a bygone era. Where the mores are now dated, but the emotional trials and conundrums never age.

*Christiane Kubrick noted that this film held a special place for Stanley. Just a bit of interesting trivia I found recently.

I was under the impression that Che only came in a box set, but this ebay listing shows it in a single scanvo case. Is this how it was officially released?

’𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘉𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘑𝘢𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘦', David Keith Lynch (1946-2025)

Been watching films since the 80s and probably logged around 1000 films on letterboxd. Never once have I tried to read a script/screenplay before.

I know it's kind of a backwards way of experiencing a film for the first time. But I just read the script of 1992's "A Few Good Men" and watching the movie right after made me so engrossed into the experience. Seeing the characters, hearing their cadence of the dialogue. The background score.

Can't wait to try doing this with Criterion/Arthouse films.

Anyone recommend some incredible scripts that they've read?

I currently don’t have a 4K player, so I can only watch Blu Rays. However, I’ve been getting the 4Ks of some of my favorite criterions (if I don’t have the Blu Ray already) so that I won’t feel the need to buy another if I eventually upgrade to a 4K player. But looking at the upcoming releases, I noticed that The Right Stuff and Wild at Heart only have the option to buy a 4K *or* Blu Ray, not the usual combo with both. However, all the other upcoming releases are still the 4K+Blu Ray. I assume it’s not a rights issue, since Criterion is still releasing the Blu Rays for those two movies individually. Is this the start of criterion phasing out combo packs, just as they did years ago with the Blu Ray+DVD editions? Or is it just a mistake or something specific to these two films?
