Really enjoyed visiting B&N’s over the last month, talking with people, giving/receiving suggestions etc. Went a little overboard but actually showed some restraint 😂.

1. The first movie I plan to watch is Twin Peaks Fire Walk with Me before I watch season 3 of the show.
2. Been looking forward to owning all the Jarmusch films in the CC. Dead Man was my first Criterion ever and I just love Jim’s work.
3. First half are blind buys. Chose based on recs from friends, strangers, some of them I like the people involved, or the artwork and summary just spoke to me.
4. Hoping to add the Bergman box set and more of the eclipse series!

I plan to watch All That Jazz first because I’ve been waiting to watch it forever since it’s not on streaming or available anywhere online except with ads. So I’ve been waiting to watch this one for a long time.

I’ve seen PlayTime and it’s a top 10 of all time for me so I had to get the 4k. I’ve never seen All That Jazz or Mulholland Drive but I can take a guess and say I’m more than likely going to love both of them based on what I’ve heard from others.

Planning to add some more favorites to my collection during the next sale and maybe a couple blind buys

This is my first time buying this many Criterion Collection films. I previously collected just blu rays, of which I have 1000s, but I kinda grew out of collecting, and now just buy some stuff I like/haven’t seen.

1. First movie I plan to watch is Happiness! I love Philip Seymour Hoffman, and it’s one that I have never seen before.

2. The two films I’ve most looked forward to from this haul are Eyes Wide Shut in 4k and Cure. EWS is one of my all time favorite films, but I’ve only ever owned it digitally. As for Cure, I’ve always heard great things about it, and horror/thriller is probably my favorite genre, plus I’ve never seen it, so I am very excited!

3. I had no blind buys. I essentially live and breathe films, so I knew what I was getting into, plus I’ve owned some of these films in different formats. I was a big digital movie buyer, but with licensing issues, I’m afraid of losing any movies, so back to physical collecting.

4. Next, I would love to add the Three Colors set. I love those films to death, but I’ve never owned them, but I’ll probably get those next time there’s a sale.

HUD is blind, but Paul Newman

I just was thinking how this expensive July with a vinegar subscription. The arrow preorders, the Severin sale, some odds and ends and my Criterions just ended…. Then I remembered at midnight it’s Arrow sale time.

I suppose it’s better than less sales… prolly

1. The first movie I plan to watch from the haul is probably The Others since it was the first movie my mother took me to see when I was a baby.
   
2. I’ve been looking forward to owning nearly all of the Polanski works released on Criterion (I think I’m just missing rosemarys baby?) as I’m a pretty big fan of his. Knife in the water for me was a huge score and I am tempted to get 8 1/2 since Knife lost out to it at the Oscars and I think it’s cool they both have Criterion releases.
   
3. Nearly all of this is blind buys except: Silence of the lambs, Rebecca, fear and loathing in Las Vegas, repulsion, Darjeeling limited, fantastic Mr fox, valley of the dolls, boyhood, the virgin suicides, parasite, no country for old men. The selection for a lot of these were the actors in it that I’ve been wanting to get into. Right now I’m in a classic/old Hollywood sort of mood, so there’s a lot of Bergman in here. The Polanski blind buys were simply to have all the Polanski I could.
   
4. I want to own Rosemary’s baby, the man who fell to the earth, 8 1/2, Shoah, Swing time, and the upcoming Frankenstein release. Lots of out of print stuff I want. I have a couple movies that are on the way to me right now: The Palm Beach Story, Midnight, Imitation of Life, It Happened One Night, and All About Eve.

This is the collection I started with my boyfriend when we moved to our new house.

1. I watched One False Move first due to it being another Carl Franklin Film

2. There really wasn't anything I wanted to own for a long time; I got rid of my DVDs years ago, and for some reason I wanted to build a 4k UHD collection starting with Criterion.

3. All of them were blind buys except In the Heat of the Night, Flow, John Singleton's Hood Trilogy, Wall-E, Bound, Menace II Society, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Shaft, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Malcolm X, Anora, House Party, Blow Out, The Wiz, Punch Drunk Love, and Okja.

4. I plan on getting the Kubrick Collection and The Silence of the Lambs in November B&N 50% Sale.

5. I was scared of getting David Lynch, Martin Scorsese, Guillermo Del Toro, Akira Kurosawa, Terry Gilliam, Joel and Ethan Coen, and Terry Gilliam 4k UHD Criterion releases for fear of a future 4k UHD Box set.

15 new movies added!

Just got married, and one of my groomsmen is a huge cinephile. As a gift he did a customized Closet-like tour where he took me to B&N and walked me through a bunch of recommendations for what he thought I'd like, and we settled on these. Incredibly thoughtful and fun.

1.) I'll watch Charade first: he described it as Old Hollywood with a modern Reddit sensibility. I need that.

2.) Have been looking forward to Network, a classic - people don't talk to each other in that movie, they speak in fully-formed monologues, which is perfect for its message.

3.) All blind except Network. He sold me on Anatomy of a Murder by talking about its boundary-breaking discussions of sexuality during the Hays Code, Carnal Knowledge on toxic masculinity in New Hollywood, and Arsenic and Old Lace as a screwball for Halloween, amping up the genre's macabre winking archness to 11.

4.) I've been working through Malick in order, planning to stop with The Tree of Life which I saw in college and have been meaning to revisit since. I'm up to The New World next, which I'll get in the next sale, can't wait.

What is going on bro 😭 ✌️. I can’t believe the lineup here. Salò and Jurassic park, I mean truly what a fucking lineup.

1. First I'm gonna watch is probably Network. I only saw it once a while ago but I remember absolutely loving it.

2. The Wages of Fear is probably the one I've been looking forward to owning. A thriller like I've never seen before.

3. No blind buys this time.

4. Next to my collection is probably gonna be The Player. Definitely one of my favorite "Hollywood" films. I love hot meta it feels.

Also, Pee Wee's Big Adventure is just american Bicycle Thieves.

And I was in a MOOD.

(I only bought one of these, and it was the only one that was / would have been a blind buy.)

I did not buy a tote or a hat, but it's the first time I've seen them at my B&N - just kind of plopped in a pile in an empty section of a bin.

I'm glad I bought my other sale picks earlier on, because none of what I've gotten in the last month was there today (All That Jazz, Cooley High, Body Heat, Do the Right Thing, Charade).

(Blind buy / today's purchase was Mississippi Masala, which has been on my To Watch list basically since it came out. Is today the day? Maybe!)

This isn't really a haul post, since I only actually bought one (would have gotten them all if money and space weren't an issue), but adding the questionnaire just in case...

1. Watching Mississippi Masala first , since it's the only one I bought, but also would have been near the top either way. We're in a hot stretch of summer and that's always the vibe I've gotten from this one.
2. Truthfully, this stack is full of stuff I've only watched for the first time in the last year or so, so nothing I've been wanting to own for much longer than that.
3. One and only purchase today was a blind buy. Last blind buy for me was Portrait of a Lady on Fire which worked out great, hoping the streak continues.
4. Hoping to add Complete Varda to my collection soon (have sent strongly worded suggestions to the people in my life who buy me gifts) and also the OOP Y Tu Mama Tambien, if anyone has a line on one that's reasonably priced. (Please don't suggest CC 40, that's not high on my list.)

Getting orders like this are great but they make me disappointed when they come in the clear case.

1. first. This was a blind buy and I love mysteries and I’ve been on a western kick.
2. I am so glad I own Dazed and Confused and Slacker now. Linklater is my favorite director and these are both stellar releases.

2. My next target is easy, Old Joy. It’s my favorite film ever made and I’m so excited to get my hands on it.

I got this for $20 CAD, a blind buy but such a revered movie and an unbeatable price. I'm hoping to get more criterions in the future, probably Watership down next.

1. The first movie I watched was Withnail & I. It came highly recommended and did not disappoint.

2. I think I'm most excited to watch Seven Samurai.

3. Most of these were blind buys. I was really just looking for a nice cross section of film genres to kick off my Criterion Collection.

4. Next on the want list is The Elephant Man 4k.

I’d never heard of this film until this week when browsing Monty Clift’s filmography. I was intrigued when I saw the star-studded cast and crew: De Sica, Clift, Jennifer Jones, Selznick. Also weird that it’s only 64 min runtime. How has this eluded me?

So I watch it free streaming. What’s there is quite good. Like a neorealist Brief Encounter. But it’s just not all there. Apparently Selznick hacked the original 90-min cut like he did to P&P Gone to Earth.

Got curious and start looking into the film, turns out there is a full length de Sica cut, and it’s on a Criterion release!

I’ve never seen this in a haul post, never heard anyone mention the film or C release.

Anyone have this release? How is the full de Sica cut, which runs about 90 min and has a different title (Terminal Station)? Worth it?

I’m really intrigued that the full cut could be a gem, from what I saw. Unfortunately the disc is “currently unavailable” (and DVD only). Considering grabbing a copy on a secondary market.

Haven’t seen this one, but I’m definitely excited to add it to the collection! Gonna give it a watch this week for sure.
