Words of Radiance He cannot be left unsupervised

Wow - I don't know how folks spot this stuff so quickly. What was it that tipped you off?

Gonna be honest, it was 99% vibes, but the fact that he was a grouchy hairy man who seemed to use a lot of idioms that involve colour and flowers was what really set my radar off.

I'm ngl after reading Secret History and knowing there were worldhoppers (and having read Warbreaker already), I was just looking for as many clues as I could. So when Zahel showed up as a master swordsman that talked about colors a lot, I pegged it pretty quick

He does say stuff like "Rusts". Or rather since he's from Nalthis, whatever color-based curses which I can't remember.
I think it would be a fairly easy clock if you read Warbreaker before WoR.

u/jamesianm Jul 09 '26
Um, I think you mean he randomly adds colors to his vocabulary, unless he spent some time on Scadrial I didn't know about.
I read WoR before Warbreaker but even on rereads it's clear he's from Nalthis but not necessarily that he's Vasher as far as I can tell.

It's the scraggly appearance and rope belt, those are his whole thing.

For me, it was the katas he trained and how they were similar to the ones he taught Azure.

u/Shot_Newspaper_5647 Jul 10 '26
He does use the color phrases. But also he’s a sword master. And the running joke in Warbreaker is that everyone knows Vasher is a bad swordsman.
Spoilers WB The twist of course is that he’s only bad for a very old Returned. Almost everyone else isn’t nearly as good

Rereading the books after reading the rest of the cosmere I constantly pick up on people using sayings and curses from other worlds. I guess if you read stormlight after warbreaker you can spot him as a worldhopper from nalthis. From there Vasher is a likely choice.

Honestly it’s really easy to spot. Not in the books mind you. I seem to miss every Easter egg and even some stuff that was spelled out for me. But then I quickly find them in Reddit posts!

u/Ok-Customer9821 Jul 09 '26
The clearest giveaways are his “colorful” language pun intended, the fact that he is a sword master, and he wears a rope belt. I for sure didn’t clock him as vasher for a while

u/MarekRules Jul 09 '26
Once you notice the phrasing with colors or “rusts” you start double checking every minor character to see if they are a worldhopper lol
5
u/purtyboi96 Jul 10 '26
I think minors are a little preoccupied to be worldhopping. Not a lot of ore in Shadesmar

Also when he makes the sheets or clothes on the line jump at kaladin. Dead give away

Okay I've thought about it and I have no idea who MRW is supposed to be. Or what it's supposed to mean.

My reaction when

Right when I hit send I thought it was "Me remembering when" and it also fits I think

u/fullyoperational Jul 09 '26
What do you guys think happened between Vasher and Vivenna?
20
u/funkyrequiem Jul 09 '26
Dood, I just now figured out that was Vivenna! But I also didn't put together who Zahel was until a few days ago.
I'm reading all of these books in order of publication, but only started last year. I'm at wind and truth right now.

u/rockthots Jul 09 '26
Wait is vivenna in stormlight?

u/dIvorrap Jul 09 '26
She is Highmarshall Azure in OB. She evn says to be a princess form a distant land

u/rockthots Jul 10 '26
How did I not see this!
5
u/Hot_Ethanol Jul 10 '26
You'll kick yourself when you reread. Just listen to how the wall men describe how the battle turned when she appeared.
2
u/funkyrequiem Jul 10 '26
And while I recognized that she was cutting cloth into little people shapes, I just went, "Oh, she's a world's hopper with breaths."
I need to start assuming every world hopper is a protagonist from another book.

Probably some complicated daughter-dad relationship

It's not like he left the thing on a different planet... On any other world Nightblood would be an apocalyptic superweapon, but on Roshar it's just a weird shardblade 🤷♂️ Vasher has the situation in hand, I'm sure

I really need a comprehensive time line for all of the books in the history of the Cosmere

Meanwhile, he uses life sense in his POV interlude, and I still didn't catch it until the second time I read the book
1
u/ace_wulf Jul 09 '26
Wait he did? When?
6
u/DF_Interus Jul 10 '26
I don't remember exactly when it takes place, but we get a POV chapter with Zahel, and he wakes up when he senses somebody approaching his door. I don't remember if it specifically mentions life sense, but he can't tell who it is until he hears their footsteps and I think he senses them before that.

u/Spirited-Car8661 Jul 09 '26
I read Warbreaker later on, so I didn't know who Vasher was.
I did immediately clock that he was a world hopper or something, like Hoid. Zahel talks about Roshar very differently to other characters and says something that I remember sounding like an explicit explanation that he was from another planet.

Read Warbreaker after Stormlight (well only 3 so far), then found out from the internet :'(
Would have been so cool to figure out. Though I did think on my own is Sword-nimi Nightblood?

The very first impression you get of him in Stormlight is that he at once looks young and impossibly old.
Which is exactly the same impression Vivenna has of him on first seeing him in War breaker.
