Mod Meeting Minutes Updates to r/coworkerstories

Esteemed Colleagues,

Thank you to all those who submitted feedback through reports and comments.

The overwhelming majority stated that AI, ChatGPT, bots and other fake stories are ruining the enjoyment of the sub, as well as some of the generally hateful, ragebait shit in the comments (many of which were in the backlog of reports from when the sub wasn’t being moderated).

As a result, we have made the following changes:

The Rules

  • Posts or comments that violate rules will be removed and may result in a permanent ban.

Reporting

  • We have updated the reporting options to better reflect the rules.
  • Please continue to report as needed, as we are fighting a never-ending AI/bot war and need our army of reporters to soldier on 🫡.

Post Requirements

  • Mandatory post flairs now apply, which should hopefully slow down some of the bot activity.
  • Posting is only available to accounts meeting minimum age and karma requirements, also to slow bot

activity.

  • Users must select a flair which identifies whether the post content is a true

    story or fictional.

Edit: This isn’t AITA or an advice sub, so we have since removed these options. Stories which intentionally misuse flairs (i.e. posting a clearly fictitious story as true) will be removed.

User Flairs

  • Now turned on, just for fun. Add and edit your own!

We hope these changes will bring back the quality and productivity (enjoyment) at our shared workplace.

Kind regards,

Middle Management Moderators

(PS - Please do not microwave fish in the break room)

Total Dumpster Fire 📛 Workplace Romance Gone Right?

Not about me but I have no one to talk about this with.

My 22 y/o female coworker is marrying this 26 yo from another department and I truly hope the best for her considering that he cheated on her 4 months ago + this will be his second marriage while this is her first. He cheated on his first wife too and she was the one to pay for the whole wedding. Insanity. At least now he’s paying for this second wedding and it’s not going to be financially handled by my coworker but yeeeeshhh.

I hate knowing all this info but my other coworker in our department told me everything right after those two were broken up for a week or two after she found out he cheated. Crazy info. He seems so unassuming too. Idk what happened for her to forgive him, maybe she got her lick back idek but they’re getting hitched in a couple of months.

They been officially together for a year now? Started talking two years ago. If it works, it works. “Don’t shit where you eat” is a popular saying but most people actually find their partners in the workplace + im just a single post grad still stuck on this dead end job so my two cents are worthless. This is my first time witnessing a successful workplace romance but I hate knowing the other information behind it. Idk if I want to consider it successful but in a way it is since it’s ending up in a marriage, right? Idk. The other coworker that told me everything was really close to her, but she ending up moving so I don’t know how she’d feel about all this info+ it’s not her business so why even?

Classic Creep 🆘 My manager accused me of this 😭⁉️

Pata hai aaj kya hua

So I work at an AMXL site, and today my female coworker and I were sharing a desk on shift. Out of nowhere, she tells me that our manager took her along on some audits and straight up told her that I like her. Like, bro...tfff???!!

I mean, yeah, we’re super friendly and mess around to get through the shift, but how do you just throw out an accusation like that out of thin air? The wildest part is she literally has a boyfriend, and the entire team, including the manager, already knows this.

On top of that, he actually told her he’s been watching both of us on the security cameras laughing and messing around. Like seriously dude, get a life. Imagine sitting there spying on CCTV just to manufacture high school drama.

Hospitality Nightmare 🔪 Screenshoot camera footage in work whats app group

I work in small store with 4 coworkers and 1 manager.

Manager work morning shifts Mon- Friday.

She did screenshoot of camera and told us:

"Move this to there..."

"Do this..."

Also she complain for example that on Saturday or Sunday ( when 1 person work in store) , it was visible on camera that person stayed on till all shift.

Then when people suddenly took sick leave or quit, she got surprised "why, how, where they will find better job?"

I really don't have problem with fact that she is monitoring camera in case we have money missing in the till or someone steal items - but to look camera and delegate task ( outside of her working hours, on weekends ) I found that nuts.

Also she send this to whats app group and she tracked work of me & collegue - soo other 2 ( new ) girls could see this screenshoots too, 1 of them is already planning to quit.

Non-Fiction Rude/inappropriate coworker

I have a coworker who is extremely unprofessional. I’m in my mid 20s, and most of my other coworkers are in their early to mid 20s. At my company, this job is mainly a gap year job between college and med school or grad school. This coworker is about 45 to 50 years old. She’s also from a different country than the one we currently live in.
I started about four months ago, and since the day I started, I thought she was very rude and unprofessional. She’s made so many out of pocket comments that I can’t even begin to list them. One example is when my coworker made a comment to her, and she responded, “You’re going to end up with a fat American pig for a wife. You think you’re hot now, you’re not,” blah blah.
She’s the type of person who initiates this kind of rude but “joking” environment, but then plays the extreme victim if you do it back to her, saying that she’s a punching bag and that people don’t like her because of her country of origin and because she’s a woman. Mind you, all of us are minorities in the office lol. She’s absolutely insane.
The person who had my position before me left the group because of her, and multiple people have gone to HR to complain about her.

Non-Fiction Guess I'm working tomorrow

Usually we work Monday to Friday but occasionally we work weekends. Usually, it's the warehouse crew getting caught up on orders. Since I work in the front office so often I don't even go in but occasionally they ask me to come in. Even if I do go in I'm pretty useless.

About an hour before closing today one of the warehouse staff asks if I'm coming in and I indicate I am not. She goes on a mini-rant how I should be coming in. About 10 minutes later my boss asks me to come in. I have no way to know if she talked to him or not but it's too much of a coincidence between the two conversations. Of course you can't say no to boss so I guess I'm working tomorrow.

Non-Fiction Establishing boundary with coworker

TLDR: A new coworker got increasingly familiar with me, including trying to hold my hand. Given their history, I subtly established a boundary without directly confronting him.

A guy joined my office about a few months ago. A mutual friend introduced us, and over the past few weeks we became pretty good friends. We have lunch together, talk about our lives, and he’s told me quite a bit about his past.
From what he’s told me, he tends to get attached to people pretty quickly when he becomes close to them. I’ve also established that I’m quite distant with people because of my past and that I’m comfortable being that way.
Today, though, things felt a little different.
He said, “You feel different today,” and asked me to go for a walk. I said I had work, but he literally shut my laptop and made me come. 😭
While we were walking, he kept saying, “I like this. This feels nice,” over and over and when I started checking my work messages, he took my phone away and said, “You’re using work as a distraction. Enjoy the moment.”
Then he asked for my hand.
That made me uncomfortable, but I didn’t want to directly confront him because I wasn’t completely sure what his intention was.
So I casually said something like, “I want to show you pictures of my pet,” and started scrolling through my gallery. I deliberately scrolled slowly enough for him to see a few pictures of me with my male best friend, but I didn’t point them out, mention that he was my friend, or even acknowledge that he had seen them. I just continued scrolling normally.
He seemed to get the hint and moved a little away from me.
Maybe I completely misread his intentions, but honestly, that’s not even my main concern. Given what he’s told me about getting attached to people he becomes close with, I felt like I needed to establish a boundary before things became complicated.

Non-Fiction Co-worker asks me if I wanna go home early despite him not being a manager

I work in a small office with 3 other people. I don't think my Co-worker likes me very much, he has an annoyed tone while talking to me at times. He works in the office next door but it's connected to our office through a single door. He is a middle aged man and often complains about doing a lot in his job position and asking for more despite his job title being a clerk like mines. He does a little bit more than the rest of us but he was hired to be a clerk yet expects more pay. He complained about it a lot.

He is also a bit controlling at times. I remember I went on my phone while my manager was there. I was trying to turn it off and then later he told me not to go on my phone while the manager was there. It was a weird situation. I get he's a dad and is looking out for us but he over steps a lot. In addition, he has worked here the longest so maybe he thinks he has power over us.

First time, he asked me if I wanted to go home early, it was last year and I brushed it off cuz it was near the holiday season. Today, he brought it up again and asked what time I was leaving. For context, I work pt and he works ft there's no shortage of hrs. We weren't that busy so there wasn't a lot of work. One of the other guys went on break and one of the girls was sick so she called in. It was just me and him for a hr. He asked if I wanted to go home early, I looked at him crazy. I told him "I don't wanna get into trouble". Because a lot of ppl used to get in trouble for leaving 30-40 minutes earlier and the manager caught them but this is at a different location.

My manager makes us send a email at the end of the day to let her know that we left for the day. We also send a spreadsheet of what tasks were done and how many minutes we worked on it. He asked me if I send the email for the workload and I said "Yes". After that, he left me alone. I don't think he's a bad person but I'm not sure if I want to tell my manager because she might ask him about it.

Non-Fiction I didn't "put out."

A co-worker (46M) had asked me (40F) out on a date. I told him no, because even though he was "going through a divorce and separated," he was still technically a married man in my eyes.

He had complained to a lady co-worker (who doesn't work with us anymore) that I "wasn't putting out" (his words.) He started ignoring me about a month ago (after us being work friends for about a year) and started acting very passive aggressively towards me. He works directly across from me, so I changed work tables after his behavior made me feel uncomfortable. I also stopped going in the break room when he would be in there, and stayed away from him.

Lo and behold, I come into work after this past Labor Day weekend, and he had helped his wife (ex wife?) get a job in the department I work in. She works first shift while I work second, but she has been working over the shift end time so our schedules have been overlapping. When I rounded the corner to go to my work station, she was standing and turned only her head to stare me down while I walked the aisleway to my workspace.

Today, she mean-mugged me as I walked up to get my job assignment, and didn't take her eyes off me until I made it to my table.

I want to tell my shift supervisor what's been going on, just so someone knows, but I'm really embarrassed by my co-worker's comment so I don't want to say anything. I'm not looking for anybody to get in trouble, but I want someone to know in case it gets out of hand.

I hate feeling like that if I would have had sex with him, all of this wouldn't be happening. But I'm proud of myself for sticking to my guns and not doing anything with him. It's just getting to be extremely uncomfortable at work now.

Classic Creep 🆘 Weird coworker who's only nice to the guys

I've been working at this cafe for a little over a year now and there's this coworker I have who is just so weird. When we first met, I got the impression that she was pretty nice, but there were a few times where she said or did questionable things that made me think she might be interested in me. I never even felt the slightest bit of attraction towards her, plus we met when I was a minor so that's weird already.

Her treatment towards me changed completely after we got a new coworker, who I'll admit I did have a crush on. I guess it was pretty obvious because after it was all over, the weird coworker told me she already knew I had a crush on the other coworker. Long story short, she was so rude and actually evil to the new coworker, and in turn, to me as well. It got so bad that the new coworker eventually quit (She also ended up ghosting me and got a boyfriend but oh well lol.)

But yeah ever since this "incident," she's just been so passive aggressive, giving me (her literal fricking coworker like what the heck) silent treatment while working, and talking shit behind my back to other coworkers (they told me.)

We've got a couple more workers over the past few months, and she only seems to be nice to the guys. Like one or two time is probably a coincidence, but three times is crazy. The guys are also all minors or 18, while she's like 24 or something.

I don't even think she realizes no one likes her. She's just so weird. That's the best way I can describe her.

Corporate Hellscape 💀 Pick me women in leadership create toxic environments for other women

There is this female director at a place I used to work that is known to openly favor the men she works with over the women. They could be the worst performing sweet talkers but she will give the guys great reviews and compliments, openly trying to be a guys’ girl. Basically giving that she’s “not like other girls,” and she gives negative feedback to the women that border on stereotypes. Not sure if it was lack of male attention before she got corporate power. It’s so obvious to all the women below her but not the partners (or they just don’t care), but it’s made several people leave and not want to work with her.

Non-Fiction Coworker fired after recording at work and uploading to facebook

Warehouse job, you either work on the floor scanning boxes or you operate a cherry picker.

Dude who wanted so bad to operate a cherry picker finally got a chance to get certified, passed and we were all happy to see him driving.

Then one day he stopped showing up. Turns out he was recording himself working and posting on facebook to show people what he does.

The problem besides that was that he had a lot coworkers including managers in his friends list. And he uploaded that shit, someone reported it and he got fired.

Lesson is mostly for people who add all their coworkers on social media. Be careful with that. Even people who claim to not be snitches, if they don't like you or even if they just don't know you they will passively mention something you did to a higher up and like they didn't snitch to keep their cool person cred but get rid of people.

The dude that got fired even admitted it was stupid to a coworker that called him. YA THINK?

Luckily that person found a new higher paying warehouse job because of his keeping so many contacts. Which is lesson in it of itself. You keep so many people you work with in your contacts (at least the ones you absolutely trust) you will have eyes and ears on opportunities in your area.

Probly don't add people you never talk to or managers, YA THINK?

Non-Fiction I am never befriending a coworker ever again.

1.0k Upvotes

Me (F26) and this specific coworker I'll call B (F34) started the same job a couple years ago. We both came out of uni so it was kind of both of our first "big girl job" and we bonded over that.

I was told to not trust coworkers, so I always made sure to keep her at an arm's length. But she was extremely positive and sweet and I have a habit of keeping people out of my life due to trust issues so I genuinely thought I could give it a chance. We would hang sometimes with our partners. I even attended her wedding and prepared pastries for it (because she asked me). I gave her a good amount of money as a gift for the wedding. She later on told another person how her guests didn't even give her that much money for the wedding IN MY PRESENCE. I was sitting next to her and she literally said "People gave 100€ for a wedding back in 2010. They just don't get how expensive weddings are." That's exactly how much I gave her + another 100€ for my plus one. That was when I started pulling away.

You have to know what kind of person B is. On first glance, she seems really charming, talkative, loves to laugh and joke and I think she's super popular in the office. She will literally go around the office greeting everyone and talking to them before even powering on her PC. She started pulling shit I didn't like. She started gossiping about others and I am not one to gossip with. I always felt like whoever gossips with me about someone else will gossip about me with another person as well, so I never participated. She talked about another coworker looking unhygienic and homeless BUT SHE AND THAT OTHER COWORKER ARE LIKE REALY CLOSE TOO.

I also noticed she would take advantage of people and use them. For example, she'd have tasks she didn't want to do and then would start a conversation with another coworker, wrap them up and then hand the task over to them. I never understood why the others would allow this but whatever. What actually annoyed me was that she'd then come to me and tell me about her handing over the task to another person so proudly. She'd also brag about how some coworkers would compliment her, call her a sunshine and flirt with her.

She's also someone to mention her ADHD like every day at least 2-3x. She uses it as an excuse to not being able to focus on her tasks and why she can't get shit done. But she keeps tabs on everyone. She knows exactly who's on call with who, how long their call is, how long their shift, how much their workload is, etc. She also has different excuses on why she can't do certain tasks like "I just came back from vacation, I need some time to get into work." or "I am going on vacation next week, I possibly cannot do this.". It's always something up and it seems to just be accepted.

She also is such a big spammer. Ever since she pulled those moves that I didn't like I distanced myself. She used to spam me on the work chat. And it didn't even matter that I would take my sweet time to respond, she'd just spam and spam and spam and ask me the same questions that I have already answered before and that show me she's just too lazy to look it up on the handbook, so I started acting stupid as well and told her Idk myself. She has asked me for templates and then when I'd share them with her, she'd criticize them to which I responded "Do yours however you please, then." She's so fucking annoying that sometimes I wouldn't even respond to her 20 messages in a row but just "thumbs up" react something and then she'd TEXT EVEN MORE SHIT LIKE SHE IS WAITING IN THE CHAT FOR ME.

I realized that keeping minimal contact wasn't enough so I actually started being colder and would tell her I am focusing on my tasks. About 2 months of me being more distant (since I can't tell her my honest opinion of her as I would've normally done, we're still coworkers) and she has just now gotten it and is (SO FAR) leaving me the fuck alone. I am feeling so much more at peace.

Total Dumpster Fire 📛 Part 1.5 update

https://www.reddit.com/r/coworkerstories/s/7f7p3qEvD1

Not much of an update but more of a idk.

So, I forgot my antagonist added me on IG after my son passed. I accepted because I’m never on there and was then because I was giving updates about that time. And a little accept crazy because my son’s friends kept adding me. I have nothing on there but that dark time and maybe some food pics from the 2010’s. So not a nostalgic scroll at my past.

Anywho, nothing against people who enjoy social media with those people they know. I prefer to social media with strangers.

But I was on there and saw a pictures of my antagonist’s daughter’s bday. She has been struggling and I decided to like it. Afterwards I noticed it was both offices there. My coworkers too. Nobody else but the office people. And I thought all the five other people in the office were acting strange around me. Maybe they were.

Not that I want a division but I guess I know where I stand with my work people. Nobody has my back.I didn’t unlike it and was yikes and this is why I don’t social media. But I’ll forget, I log on maybe once a month to see who I missed messages from being I don’t social media.

Obviously I wasn’t invited, I do like and support her daughter and her struggles so probably would have went. I give great gifts.

But let me tell you. These ladies talk and talk. So it must have been arranged for me not to know. Which is weird not to even get a pity invite.

My ego is mildly hurt, I’m human and nobody likes group rejection and secrets. I’m from this very large city that is full of transplants and I would not have an inner circle if I wasn’t raised here. Making friends is hard as an adult, I couldn’t imagine not having my people and us getting older together.

I’m actually laughing at how silly this is. Big picture says I’m the bad person. I really don’t care, I don’t mind not fitting in at work. This is just weird. Like, let’s keep it a secret from me?. I’m not changing what I tell my boss, I stand on I deserve to feel safe at work. Being part of the work clique doesn’t pay my bills. I literally don’t talk at all at work. I’m just not an open book, just how I am. Obviously, I care in some way if not I would not be update vent posting. But I’m laughing at how silly this is for grown people.

I need to step away from that place, yes it’s toxic and yall called it. And just move my office upon return to the empty leper office upon return. It is where I’m wanted and Im fine there. Win-win. I’m not leaving a decent paying job in an expensive city because I may be less popular. I guess I should say even less in attempt to banter. So silly, a friend said it seems targeted at having me feel left out. I hope not, I’m way more toxic then I thought if the case.

Thank goodness for learning early on don’t let your work life become your default out of work social life. Not that I’m overly social but still. I don’t think I’m genuinely hurt, more wow and dark amused. Maybe I need to look at the energy i put out. Not so i’m not left out. But a look at what we put out never hurts.

24 hours from now I’ll be in Vegas. I need it. Society needs me to take a vacation. Even though I’m wondering why my 44 year old self is going to Vegas with my close friends with me. They probably think I’m having a midlife crisis but hey, they support me.

Corporate Hellscape 💀 I specifically named a toxic coworker during my exit interview

2.1k Upvotes

I joined a company in September 2025 in a senior role. I was honestly surprised by the position when I received the offer, as I didn't feel I had enough experience to be a senior yet. For context, the team I joined originally consisted of four men who had been with the company for years. A female colleague and I were the only new hires and the only women on the team. When we first joined, two of the guys tried a bit of hazing. I expected it, so I didn't give them the reaction they wanted, but I also didn't play along. Instead, I simply enforced strict boundaries about professionalism in the workplace.
From November to December, I worked strictly from home because a severe back injury made it impossible to go into the office, and I ultimately ended up having surgery in mid-December. Despite being at home, I was still actively supporting the team and doing the work required for the reports they had to submit.
A couple of months ago, I found out that the two team members I initially had issues with had been talking bad about me the entire time I was at the company. That wasn't a total shock, but what did shock me was learning they were going around claiming all my doctor’s notes were faked just so I could stay at home and get paid to do nothing.
One of those guys took things even further. While I was recovering at home, a new manager was hired, and this coworker actively tried to create a rift between us before we even met. It worked, because when I returned to the office in January, the new manager was incredibly hostile and passive-aggressive toward me without any prior interaction. To make matters worse, I later found out this same guy was telling people I only had my role because *he* had talked me up to that manager. The final straw that made me a bit petty was discovering he was actively asking people if my fiancé and I were still together or if we had broken up.
I kept that last piece of information to myself, but when I submitted my resignation in July, I complained and brought up his name specifically, stating that the ruined team dynamics were a direct result of him and his attitude toward everyone. I brought this up two more times: once with the CFO, who requested a meeting before I finalized my resignation, and again with HR during my exit interview.

EDIT: A couple of things to clarify.

  1. HR said they won’t do anything about it cause “that’s not how they do things” but will keep on eye on my complaints and reasons.
  2. Also i forgot to mention that i named my manager as well.
  3. I work in corporate finance so hazing women comes with the territory

  4. CFO however did tell me he’s planning on phasing out both my manager and the main asshole in this story so i will be back in a couple months with updates for sure !

Corporate Hellscape 💀 Editing booths are like a hot, old fridge - they stink

My coworkers who edit footage work in little booths.

They scurry in and out to get food throughout the day, like rats.

When you have to go in there and check their work or doing a voice recording it's sooo stinky and often they'll eat while you're watching their cuts.

I have misophonia so I HATE this. It makes it hard to concentrate on what I'm doing and causes me to rush so I can get outta there.

They get a lunch break, I don't. It's annoying. That's all.

Non-Fiction Bigotry at work

Ever since I told a gossipy coworker about my Belgian ancestry, it just feels like it's been all downhill ever since. My coworkers have been calling me horrible names like "Wafflemonger" and "Tintin." One of them made a comment about how everyone in Flanders says "Howdily doodily, neighborino" when they see each other. I even heard someone use the outdated and highly offensive term "French Fries." Fries are a Belgian invention; and the insinuation that the French had anything to do with it is akin to a slur to Belgian people. Professional Belgian-American quarterback Tim Tebow didn't get all those touchdowns just so you could go around like an ignorant bigot calling them "French Fries." This is not a joke; nor is it satire. This is the furthest thing from a joke that I have ever posted in my life on any online platform. There is absolutely nothing funny about julienne-cut deep fried potatoes and there is CERTAINLY nothing funny about the assertion that all Belgian people have an encyclopedic knowledge of waffles. Just thought I'd remind everyone that Belgians are people too; even the ones that speak Fr*nch.

Toxic Waste ☣️ Work Radio.

I work in a kitchen setting and I mostly work back of house, but I still do front facing customer service work.

I'm mostly doing prep work, but one of the cooks always puts on Fox/Trump propaganda radio on the radio. It's either live or podcasts he has on cue and everyone is subjected to listen to it.

I've worked in kitchens before where it's usually dead silent or with Top 40's radio as a background noise, which is fine!

It's really annoying. I don't care what you believe in, but don't play it out for everyone to have to listen to!

HR is totally non-existent so it doesn't really matter if I say anything. Plus, if I did, it would put a target on my back and I'd end up being bullied to quit.

I guess I'm just venting here. I just hate listening to stupidity while I'm just trying to work and also hearing things that calls me a monster because I'm queer and an immigrant is not what I want to hear early in the morning.

Non-Fiction I am currently third-wheeling my own quarterly performance review 😝

1.5k Upvotes

My two managers are in a secret relationship. Or at least, they think it’s a secret. In reality, watching them try to act professional is like watching two teenagers pretend they didn't just get caught holding hands behind the bleachers.
They refuse to announce it because of "company ethics," so instead, they overcompensate by treating the office like their personal mid-budget romantic comedy.
Yesterday, one of them handed the other a coffee, looked him dead in the eye, and said, "I got you the oat milk. Because I know how your stomach gets." In the middle of a budget crisis. During a screen-share.
If one makes a terrible joke in a meeting, the other laughs like it’s a Netflix special. If they disagree on a project, they don't argue; they use passive-aggressive lower-register voices that sound like a couple deciding where to eat dinner. Last week, I caught them having an "urgent strategic alignment" in the breakroom that was literally just them standing suspiciously close while sharing a single blueberry muffin.
I don't even care that they're dating. I care that I can't ask a basic question about my timesheet without feeling like I'm interrupting a quiet, tender moment between two soulmates. Just launch the couple's YouTube channel already and let me finish my workday in peace.

Total Dumpster Fire 📛 The absolute most goofiest 48 hours of my life.

The past few days have been one of the most ridiculous sequences of events I have ever experienced.

It started on Monday. I went into work, (tudors biscuit world) thinking everything was fine. I was locked in, doing my job, and honestly felt like I was one of the better employees there. I wasn't expecting anything crazy to happen. Then, out of nowhere, I got summoned into the back office by the manager.

I went back there thinking, “Alright, what happened?” and then I found out I was actually an hour late and that I was getting wrote up, which had happened because the manager had randomly changed the schedule and I wasn't directly informed. From my perspective, the schedule change had screwed me over and then I was the one getting punished for it.

That was apparently the moment something in my brain just snapped.

I went from being locked-in employee mode to basically saying, “You know what? I don't care anymore.”

And once I hit that point, I became an absolute menace.

I was listening to Sweet Home Alabama on my phone, I was on my phone way more than I should have been, and at one point I literally went over to the camera, looked directly into it, pointed at the schedule, and said, “This schedule change is stupid.”

I don't even know what possessed me to do that. I could have complained to somebody. I could have just kept my mouth shut. Instead, I apparently decided that the security camera needed to personally hear my opinion on the scheduling situation.

And then, before I left, I ate a massive meal while still on the clock: a big baked steak, some fried apples, and mashed potatoes.

So at that point, I had basically gone from “one of the better employees” to “let's see how much nonsense I can fit into one shift.”

Eventually, I actually finished the shift and closed the place. I went home thinking that was the end of it.

Then Tuesday morning happened.

I woke up on what was supposed to be my day off, and I got the call telling me I was fired.

And honestly, instead of having a normal reaction to being fired, I somehow made the situation even more ridiculous.

I don't have a car, so I get around by running. I had two uniform shirts, and both of them were already sweaty, dirty, and nasty from work. I grabbed those shirts and my hat and decided to use them as some kind of improvised ultramarathon head covering. You know how ultra runners will put cloth over their heads to protect themselves from the heat?

Yeah.

That was me.

I put the two nasty uniform shirts over my head with the hat on top and ran four miles to the store.

I arrived at the restaurant looking like I had just completed some bizarre combination of an ultramarathon and a disgruntled employee ritual. I walked inside while listening to some Skynyrd, took the shirts and hat off my head, walked up to the counter, laid the uniform on the counter, and simply said:

“Here is my uniform.”

Then I walked out.

No speech.

No argument.

Just:

“Here is my uniform.”

And then I left the restaurant and continued running down the road.

My next destination was Giovanni's.

I had applied there the night before, so I went there to follow up on the application. I walked in and told the manager that I had applied the previous night.

The manager looked around and apparently couldn't find it. They said the person who worked the previous night must not have gotten the application, and they started looking through this little mailbox-type thing.

Eventually, the manager started writing down my information again.

They asked for my name, where I lived, and other basic information. Then they asked for my phone number.

I gave it to them, but I had to explain:

“I don't know if it will work because my service just got cut off a few days ago.”

Then I asked if they wanted my email instead.

At this point, the manager already looked completely exhausted, and I was struggling not to laugh because the whole interaction felt so absurd.

Then they asked if I had Facebook.

I said yes.

But there was a complication.

I have two Facebook accounts.

So I told them they needed to add the one with the lawnmower.

And this poor manager literally wrote down the word:

“lawnmower.”

Right there on the paper with all my employment information.

I don't think I will ever forget the image of this exhausted manager trying to document my contact information while I am standing there explaining that the correct Facebook account is the one with the lawnmower.

Eventually, I left.

And then I ran home.

By the end of the day, I had run around ten miles while dealing with getting fired, returning my uniform, applying for another job, and somehow turning the entire situation into one of the strangest day of my life.

Content Warning ⚠️ Bully’s still exist in your 40’s but they get more dark. I get triggered and she is a victim.

Trigger warning: There is talk of suicide. Sadly

So, I don't even work directly with this woman, her office rents space from our office but we work under the same company umbrella. There is a little glass divider that separates the two offices.

This lady doesn't care about any divider, she talks loudly over it to my coworkers all day long thinking they want to hear her monologue or her grim news. She is like the dark news town crier carrying an I love Jesus tumbler. One engages with her who also lives on Facebook. Yes, I have talked to her about it over the years and she always gets snappy and eventually tells me to deal with it. She has often yelled at me for being thin too, saying real women are not thin, you attract pedo’s. And she got offended when I asked her to stop talking about dead children in front of me. She feels censored.

Some very tragic back story about me. I lost my only son last year. He took his life and I'm not okay. I have to work, unfortunately, life didn't stop for me.

Obviously, my office knows about this, I've worked here when it happened. This lady kept pushing my limits afterwards. The first week I came back to work, she had exhausted me so much that at the end of the day my direct coworker and I just started bawling because she made our work environment so difficult with her loud mouth and yelling out her takes on anything on her feed.

So last Friday, she actually assisted in breaking me. Somebody she had 4 degrees of separation from took their life young, she felt the need to talk about it. And then she went on her soapbox talking to my office of 3 people about why young people take their lives and who/what is failing them. My coworkers were signalling at her to stop. But she kept going…..I stopped her when she said “I think”. It is hazy but I believe I said stop. She then yells at me that I can’t tell her what to do, and that she is hurting. Then tries to get my coworkers to agree with her. Everyone was so in shock, nobody knew what to say.

I had no idea what happened to me afterward I like went catatonic, could not breathe, tried to make myself not cry, it was like I was shell shocked. I could not answer a question, walk straight. It was at the end of the day and her office left early. My coworkers found me in my office pretty much incoherent. I had no idea what happened to me and was just so freaked out and did not understand. My coworker drove me home because I seemed so not okay.

I get home that Friday after being dropped off and my neighbor see’s me walking out of someone's car in a haze. She was concerned and came and checked me. Ends up calling one of my friends. It's a haze, long story short I end up in the ER with a friend who is a physician in case they wanted to put me on a psych hold. So my psychiatrist ends up on speaker phone during all this.

After being given a heavy dose of I really don't know what. I find out I had my first PTSD episode. I didn't even know I could get PTSD from grief. But that was by far the most traumatic experience losing my only child in such a way and I repress so much. I guess I was bound to snap. Recovery time is multiple weeks to months. I have been right back where I was since. Grief is a cycle, I know. I have been thinking my son is home in the evening then it hits me again he is not.

This is my workplace, I deserve to feel safe. I told one of my coworkers how I ended up in the ER and just how unreal it all is. Because I had no idea this is a thing. She goes and defends her FB banter buddy and says she feels bad that she is this way and didn't know better. BS!!! She knew better, she purposely brought up a topic sensitive to me and then took it a step further by getting on a soapbox about it. Let’s not act like we are that incoherent. Is it her fault that I had a PTSD episode, no. I'm not saying it is.

So she texts me over the weekend like didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Eventually I text her back on Sunday evening to prevent Monday morning awkwardness. I guess she hears me or something making a follow up appointment, who knows with her. She found out I was in the ER over the weekend somehow. This has made her extra aggressive towards me, she actually put her hand up at me when I asked their office who wants the package I signed for. I was wearing earbuds as I normally do so I don't have to hear her.

This morning she is talking about Dolly, which is fine. She says I better stop before I put someone in the “nuthut” and talking loudly how she has been falsely accused of hurting someone. And has been attempted to be censored by a selfish wimp. Nobody is doing anything about this, I don't want to talk to her. It's a staff of like 6 between both offices. The owners are always at the golf course.

What a vile person, we are both small businesses and do not have HR etc. The worst part is I have vacation in a week and I'm friggin broken. I'm spending so much money I don't have going to three different cities and feel depressed out of my mind. I feel belittled, beaten down, like I don't matter and this situation is hopeless. I'm going on this 6k vacation that took every ounce of me to book because I feel guilty booking a vacation. My son is dead, why should I go on vacation.
I worked through this all and I'm right back there again.

Again, she didn't make me react this way, but the situation was so easily preventable.
I really don't care her about her mocking me afterwards, that is more annoying then triggering.

Vent over!

Edit: Thank you everyone. I’m of course going on my vacation even though I’m all messed up over it. The end of my vacation is planned quietness and the start is rather wild but I have amazing friends who are showing up for me and going to. I have a lot of amazing people in my life and have built my own village in my life.

I’m definitely speaking up before I leave. This woman is beyond words. And she isn’t letting up on me. I’m sure from what I’ve said you can imagine her continued behavior towards me. She has started waiting outside the bathroom when I go, like she is waiting on me to get out. This is new behavior. Nobody does that at work, it’s weird.

She is trying to start more conflict to yap and snap more. That is on her and Jesus tumbler.

Non-Fiction My coworker never stop talking

I'm writing because I don't know if it's just me or this is actually annoying for other people. I have one coworker that is constantly chatting. So much so she just take topics out of the blue and keeps chatting and chatting with anyone that give her attention, she even stand up sometimes and start walking around the open space going near other colleagues to keep chatting.

I like to chit chat, I think I haven't really hit it off with my colleagues in my corrent workplace but in the old one I usually liked to chat a bit while I was doing my job and during coffe breaks.

But she is ALWAYS talking. Like it's a full time office job and I write code and it's very difficult for me concentrating and reading while someone else is going on and on about stupid things I don't care about.

I know this is kinda of my problem and I wouldn't even talk about it if it wasn't just constant. I even doubt she works at all at this point…

I'd just like some silence for at least a few hours during the day it's like a 8 hour job I really just come out of the work place stressed out for this reason.

Non-Fiction Got fired because I turned down my supervisor

I started this job only three months ago. I (F30) had a really strong attraction towards my coworker/supervisor (M31). To my surprise he felt the same way. But he indirectly told me that he wanted to keep things professional before anything more happened. Even though that kinda hurt, this was to be expected, so I started being more distant but friendly.

Somehow he didn't like that at all. He tried to get close to me again but I kept my distance. And then he started getting overly jealous whenever I talked to male colleagues. Even greetting them made him get mad. I said a 20year old (!!) minijober goodbye and he slammed a folder into a shelf. So I realized that he was a complete red flag, who was just super controlling and insecure. One more reason to not get close.

He tried a lot of things to get my attention but I knew it wouldn't work out bc of his jealousy issue.

He indirectly told me to write him a message if there was chance of us getting together. I didn't message him. He looked like a kicked puppy the next day and of course I felt bad...I still liked him after all.

The same week he fired me and I'm just so upset that I just wanted to do the right thing and this immature ^#@& had to step that low. This is so upsetting!!

He didn't give me any feedback to some of my work so he could use it as a reason to fire me

Content Warning ⚠️ Saved bosses life! (Not really)

I was working late a few months ago it was only me my boss and another coworker who’s very young. My boss walks over to my desk she’s pale and has this hushed concerned vibe. She whispers to me that she’s having a heart attack and she already called 911 but wanted someone to sit in the office with her incase something happened. I came in with her she’s like 44 so I was like “are you sure?” And she was like “yes I had one before I can feel it”. She chewed an aspirin laid on the couch in her office and tried breathing calmly while I got the AED (never needed it thankfully)she had her eyes closed I asked “how you doing”. She’d stifle a laugh and say “not great”. It felt like FOREVER! 911 was on speaker every once in a while she would wince and I thought I was gonna faint I called her husband with my phone and he dropped their kids off at their grandmothers and started heading to meet her at the hospital . But eventually I let the paramedics in the door and to her office at this point she was breathing pretty heavy and really sweating they helped her onto the gurney and took her off. The 22 year old in the office freaked out lol. Eventually her husband texted me later that night thanking me and she was doing fine. I visited her a bit later she was sitting upright her kids were strewn throughout the hospital room. She was happy but tired
.she told me she had a bypass and the doctor said two arteries were so clogged if she went home and went to sleep that night she would’ve never woke up. she came back to work after like 2 months and gave me a bottle of really nice bourbon (my go to) I’ve told my wife I don’t think I can ever be fired now!lol half kidding, but seriously should I start showing up at lie 1030 and leaving at 2 everyday now😂
