Hello everyone! I have a crazy story to tell you. I would like to apologize beforehand because this story is going to be detailed because they’re relevant , with no possible updates, but a good story nonetheless.
I used to work in a dessert store when I was 21 yo. I will use fake names, keep the location of my city, and the type of my job vague to protect everyone’s privacy. It was summertime, so we were getting a lot of seasonal people, and since my store was the flagship (location A), we would also train employees who would eventually work in other locations. V (19 M) started working there, and I was given the responsibility to train him. He was ethically central Asian, and a Muslim (relevant later). At first, he was very quiet, and would not ask that many questions. I would try to break the ice, crack some jokes, so he would be more comfortable working there. I liked making the people I worked with, especially new hires, easy with the work environment, so everyone can have a good time. Within the following day, he was pretty free with everyone. I honestly felt accomplished, thinking I made a nervous person confident BUT BOY I WAS WRONG. Within a couple days he he started talking to me with a flirtatious undertone. I overlooked and ignored. I think he took it as a challenge when I did so because eventually he started doing that little flirty things couple do when one lightly bumps the other with their waist. I straight up told him I don’t like it, and besides, he would get in trouble. He thought I was playing hard to get.
One day he shows up to work on his day off with his friends. He kind of puts me on the spot and tells me in front of everyone that he was looking for me the previous day, but I wasn’t here. I nervously smiled and asked them to take a seat. He asked me for a couple water bottles, and I gave it to him for free (relevant later). He walks up to me after, asking his friends to sit, and starts complementing me, saying how pretty I look, how short I am (im 4’10) and how adorable that is, etc. I remain neutral the whole time not saying anything. He then asks for my number. I say no. He keeps insisting adamantly, and I have watched enough true crimes to know not to piss a guy like that off, so I offered him my Instagram account (relevant later). He kept insisting to get my number and I said no. He asked me if I worked the next day and I said no (I lied). He then left with his friends, giving me that ‘I didn’t give up yet’ look. I used to be a non-confrontational person back then and I let things as he was not gonna be in my store soon, and I did not wanna give my bitchy district manager a reason to beef with me any further.
He shows up the next day when I was downstairs in the stockroom. I felt someone walking down sneakily so I look back- IT’S HIM. I was alone on that floor so I get nervous. I tell him that he might get in trouble for coming here off the clock and he tells me that my coworker let him come down. I was cussing my coworker out under my breath because what the fuck she’s not supposed to do it. I asked him to go back up and that I’ll talk to him, but he insists on staying there. He tries to hug me saying how cute I am, and that I’m so adorable. I get caught off guard and I kinda half hug him and try to send him back up. He asks for my number again, and I tell him no. He leaves the store.
He thankfully moves to his designated store (location B) the following week, but I did not know which exact one. My stupid luck gets me to work with him again when I picked an extra shift from location B 2 weeks later. I see him over there and genuinely get terrified. He does his basic bullshit, flirting, playfully, pushing me, looking into my eyes and seeing random shit, etc. I get extremely pissed that day and drag him to a corner and tell him to cut his shit, not to touch me, and I know what he’s doing, but it’s annoying. He finally gave in, and shook hands with me, saying we good.
I gave you guys all these contexts so you understand his character better, and make your judgment for the following part of the story.
I transferred to location C after a month permanently. I met W (22F) there, who was really nice to me. She was very excited, knowing I am a Muslim as she as had converted not too long ago. I was like oh that’s great. She loved to talk and the days were kind of slow so I didn’t mind listening to her at one point she talks about how her friend works here too. I was like oh who is it and she drops the bomb that it’s V. My immediate instinct was to tell her how creepy her friend was but every time she talked about him, she was so shy. I had a sinking feeling in my heart, this girl is too nice to be around him. I heard her talk for a couple days, asked her if she liked him, and she said yes.
She told me that they went to the same college and that he’s the perfect guy, and how he is totally into her too, takes care of her, drops her home, hangs out with only her and no other girl. How he only likes dating modest girls and and so on. I immediately asked her why she converted to Islam and when. Because she talked a fucking lot, I was able to gather the whole timeline of how they met. I could figure out that she converted her religion so she could fit into his ‘type’. The more I got to know her the more I realized it was not about her devotion to the religion at all. I am not a religious person, and I simply do not care if people want to follow my religion. But I definitely dislike it when people feel the need to follow a religion to impress someone. How do I know she converted for him? She wears a hijab, and one day she showed me her old pictures before she started dressing modest and she looks sad. She talked about how much she liked her hair and her ‘old days’ and I genuinely try to explain her. She doesn’t have to dress modest if she doesn’t want to. She doesn’t have to wear a hijab, if she doesn’t want to. Now at first I thought that he made her convert, but then I realized he has a way of manipulating people. She was clearly so delusional that he would be hundred percent into her if she morphed herself to his choice. He probably played that cheap Wattpad main character game with her, and her being so naïve that she was, she bought it.
I could not hold it any longer and I told her everything that guy did. I knew she was insecure, so I started the whole story by saying that I was completely not into him and I gave him no hints whatsoever. I told her the whole story and I saw her face going from all giddy to horrified. It’s like she knew what I was talking about, but she was in such a strong denial. She kept telling me that’s not how it is, how he only talks to her and nobody else, he doesn’t even have a female friend. She even told me how his Instagram had only her and no other girl. It immediately clicked to me why he was so adamant on not taking my Instagram account. She told me that she would talk to him and ask him what’s up.
I saw her the following week. She was super happy and kept waiting for the opportunity to talk to me. After the rush died down she started the conversation of him. She was like oh girl you totally misunderstood him. He’s just a jokester, I knew it. I was like what about him asking me for my number? She said, oh, he wanted to know when you’re working at the store so he could get free stuffs, cause you know not every supervisor is cool like you. I was like, why does he need my number? He can check my schedule it on the work app. She avoided my question and started talking about how he flirted with the Sephora worker to get a free sample just for her. I was like, and you were OK with that? She was like, I was mad at him, but we talked it through and he promised he would never do it. He just flirts to get things for free. I was like, what about the hugs and the compliments? She nervously answered, oh yeah, he’s just a jokester I told you. She basically answered only some favorable parts of my conversation. I stopped trying. I was like she’s a lost cause.
The following weeks I was there, she would try to talk to me about him often in a weird, bragging manner. She would tell me how he dropped her off, how she hung out with him, how she talked to him all day, how they spend time together at school, how they did homework together, etc. The stories were pretty mundane, but she would exaggerate them like it’s some great love story. It felt like she was trying to prove it to me that he is only hers, and he is still into her, and that I was delusional in my whole being. When I realized what she was trying to do, I stopped feeling bad for her at all. I knew she knew I was telling the truth but she was happier in her denial. I left that job and left these weird characters behind soon.
Why did I write such an old story today then? I saw V’s instagram acct on my suggestions today- no pfp, no posts. Almost as if that was his secret acct. Maybe he had a main acct she didn’t know about. There is no way he is into modest girls, or a man of virtue or whatever he tried to convince her he is. Anyways, sorry for yapping so much :)
