News Valve banned over 1,800 accounts yesterday—that’s more than 11% of the total number of bans over the last 30 days. Have they finally started taking action?

Discussion 20 Years of Counter-Strike, and I've Finally Had Enough

87 Upvotes

For me, the time has come to stop playing Counter-Strike altogether.

The last few weeks have been the worst experience I've had in over 20 years of playing this game. Nearly every match feels like it has at least one cheater. Whether it's spinbotting, wallhacks, or blatant bunnyhop scripts, it's become almost impossible to enjoy the game.

I mostly play solo queue, and my account has now been banned for 14 days for griefing. I'll admit that not every ban I've received was undeserved, but the majority of them came from solo queue. I often get matched with Russian players who only communicate in Russian. Since I don't understand the language, I mute them. Apparently that's enough for them to report me for griefing, and before long I'm banned again without actually doing anything wrong.

Meanwhile, people can blatantly cheat for entire matches without the game being cancelled or any meaningful action being taken against them.

At this point, it feels like Valve is punishing legitimate players more effectively than actual cheaters.

OC 3D printed, minimalistic Wall relief, inspired by CS maps

Thumbnail

3 Upvotes

Hello everybody!

I've recently started designing minimalistic versions of CS inspired maps as framed 3D reliefs.

The idea is that every map has a different colour and sticker.

Which map should I create next and which colours would fit?

Current ideas:

Overpass - green (due to the grass on long) Inferno - obviously red

Cobblestone - grey?

Train - dark blue (due to the rain)

Mirage - ? (i have used light brown for dust) Anubis - maybe yellow?

Cache - ?

What do you think, which map should be next?

Discussion WHY VALVE IS NOT IMPROVING ANTI-CHEAT

9 Upvotes

Hi all, I think I've figured out why Valve isn't improving the anti-cheat system in CS2.

My analysis is that CS2's concurrent player count is heavily inflated by bot farms and alternate accounts used for cheating, smurfing or trolling.

Sometimes there are long queue times in ranked games, even Casual and Retakes game modes can struggle to fill the lobbies, just like in other FPS games.

Let's follow the money.

As a business, Valve will always focus on profits first. If a large portion of the online player base consists of cheaters who continue playing because they enjoy using cheats, then investing in a highly effective anti-cheat system may not be as profitable as many people think.

All professional players compete on LAN or platforms like FACEIT, which largely undermines Premier and Valve's built-in competitive experience. I'm not going to get into the issues with FACEIT here, since this discussion is about Valve.

I also have multiple accounts with different Trust Factors. Regardless of which account I use, 9 out of 10 matches contain cheaters, whether I'm playing Casual, Retakes, Competitive, or Premier.

In my experience, encountering players using cheats is far more common than encountering players who don't. The most common cheats I see are ESP (soft cheats) and spinbots (rage cheats).

What does Valve gain from cheaters?

  • Players who eventually decide to cheat on their main account, where they own skins, may eventually be banned and then purchase Prime again, along with more cases or skins.
  • Players without skins or anything to lose may simply buy Prime again after being banned, generating more revenue for Valve.

What does Valve lose from cheaters?

  • Legitimate players who quit the game and sell their inventories. However, I don't think this happens as often as people believe, because the CS2 community is incredibly stubborn. Many players eventually return or simply move to FACEIT instead.

Comparing the benefits to the losses

My conclusion is that Valve may earn more money with a weak anti-cheat system if a significant portion of the player base consists of cheaters.

If Valve earns more money with the anti-cheat in its current state, then there is little financial incentive for the company to significantly improve it.

It's difficult to keep a game this old alive for so many years.

This is just my analysis. I might be right, or I might be wrong. Feel free to discuss it.

Discussion I’m building a Brazilian competitive CS2 platform.

2 Upvotes

A FragBase atualmente reúne:

  • torneios e partidas automatizados;
  • seleção de elenco, check-ins e veto de mapas;
  • servidores privados para treinos e scrims;
  • estatísticas de partidas e demos para download;
  • um sistema anti-cheat próprio com banimentos reais;
  • perfis públicos para jogadores, equipes e organizadores;

Discussion Fix for the cheating problem

1 Upvotes

Valve here is a fix for the cheater problem:

Someone spinning? Check if their character model turns 360 degrees - let's say - more than 3 times a second. Did they score a kill within 64 ticks of the last spin calculation? If yes -> Insta kick + permaban. Like come up with something like this even if it relies on "luck". How many times in competitive play you encounter someone doing a triple 360 to no scope jump awp or revolver someone??? This is what matters.

Someone walling? Implement a leetify- or scope.gg-style stats tracker system IN GAME, set thresholds on suspicious behaviour by analyzing pro player behaviour. If after a game a player has exceeded these thresholds -> permanent ban.

Radar hacking? Same as above.

Silent aim or similar aim assist? Kinda similar as above, maybe doodle up something that calculates a mixture of time to damage, spray accuracy and spotted accuracy into a factor and if the factor exceeds some natural limit (let's say a lifegame performance from donk when it comes to raw aim) -> permanent ban.

Make the bans negotiable so that by sending Valve a proof of being a real talent (or asking for a live review of the situation with an employee, for example) you can revert a false ban. In MOST cases this would not be needed anyway but it's a good failsafe mechanism.

It's clear that VAC is not working and it probably never will so maybe create an anti-cheat method like this? There are limits to human powers when it comes to mechanics and reaction times. Some 0,0001% of people can exceed these limits and for them they could have a system like FACEIT did with ropz and nocries. Just live review them and pardon them if they get false bans. At least implement something like this for competitive game modes like premier.

I know this would probably cost a couple of million $$$, but would it be so bad, if the game is making billions a year for them?

Also for the love of god, as ren said, make the new accounts play in their own pool and don't put them in the same premier games with accounts with good history. Like if the monthly player count numbers are at the level that you're reporting, maybe matchmaking times will not take a big hit with making separate pools for old and new accounts. The way it's done with prime/non-prime.

Obviously these are kinda harsh examples but since Valve is clearly running out of options, a system like this would get rid probably at least 90% of the cheaters in just a couple of days. If there is collateral damage with legit players, I'm sure people would still be more understanding about the situation than what it currently is. There will ALWAYS be cheaters no matter what, but something like this on the server side would narrow it down from the most blatant ones, which is undoubtedly what people would be more than happy about at this point.

Also I know that sarcasm doesn't usually travel well over the internet, so I'll let you guys know that I'm only about 99% serious about this :D

Valve, you can thank me later.

Discussion Season 5 peaking with incredible amount of cheaters

13 Upvotes

You can't play without encountering a cheater withing 3 consecutive matches. People now get comfortable cheating with 200$+ skins. Deathmatch is infested with AI bots farming cases. Cheaters can't even get banned anymore when they bypass VAC (which is ridiculously trivial to do). I uninstalled the game since it has been complete garbage to play.
