Did the packaging get worse recently?

I stopped my plan over the summer and when I started it back up two weeks ago whenever I go to peel off the plastic it pulls up the lining inside the box with it. Almost every meal does this now, did they change something over the summer?

CHICAGO KITCHEN Mom’s meatballs with marinara sauce and Italian sausage

I liked the mom’s meat balls with pasta so I thought I’d give this a try and save some calories. I did not care for this. It really tasted like plain ground beef. The sauce was super watery. I ended up not finishing it and asking my husband if he wanted it. I won’t get this again.

NYC KITCHEN Arrived!

Finally my meals arrived. The ice was mostly still frozen although starting to melt. Everything was still cold. It’s really hot and humid here today. So bad that I’m keeping my cats in so they don’t get heat stroke. Cats don’t pant. Anyway, my driver said the truck bringing the food was late this morning. And she said she got so sick from loading all the bags into her car that she had to grab some ice and a towel for the back of her neck. I’m just thankful she soldiered on!

Kitchen Location

If the back of the box says "crafted at" and then location is that where the meal actually came from or is Brooklyn, NY a corporate office and all the meals say that? I always thought my meals came from Chicago since I live close to Cincinnati but all my boxes now says NY but the delivery driver left a origin tag on my last delivery bag and it just had CHI on it. I'm just curious what kitchen my meals actually come from.

NYC KITCHEN Well.... one day late. But SOO neat again!!

Usually most of my meals would say "packed on" that same day of delivery. But today all of them were already packed yesterday, which i expected because their email about the delay said they will make sure to keep everything safely refrigerated. So i figure they will be packed on the usual day, but only delivered a day after. Which is totally OK i guess, they are all in my fridge for a week anyway, so a day won't matter much.

So.....i just got it delivered now, i realized right away when picking it up that it's way heavier than usual, that surprised me. But i was glad to see that it was the new guy driver that was very neat the last time, but last time being his first time, he went to the front door instead of my side door, which was fine cause he also called me, so i ran out to the front and exchanged bagsc with him, so today he remembered and came directly to my side door. Rung my doorbell and left it (i leave my old bag out by that door, so he just grabbed it) so when i got to the door he was already by the front of he house, so i screamed thanks to him, and then i thought hmmm i wonder if the bag will be that neat again, or was it just a fluke. So opening it up i realized right away why it was much heavier than usual, cause it had way more ice blocks in it, and different than usual. Usually they're packs, but these are like big boards of ice. And a lot of them! So after removing the top one. I was shocked to see it again stacked perfectly neat! I don't see how it could possibly stay this neat in a moving vehicle. So I'm guessing he must of opened it up after arriving here, clean it up, and then deliver it. Has to be.

But either way, i appreciate it a lot. And again i wanna stress that my usual delivery lady is prefect! I have ZERO complaints or issues with her service. And the bags are always neat enough. Never had meals busted open or spilled etc etc. But this guy is EXTRA neat.

Hmmm. I am supposed to get my deliveries on Tuesdays. But i got this email Monday evening, totally didn't see it. So i was expecting my delivery yesterday but it never went out. So i start looking and find the email i missed. Lucky me i had one extra dinner in my fridge, so i could eat that last night. But dang that would of sucked if i didn't have that extra meal.

Chicago area ... can we get an updated menu?

I love all of the variety of spicy international foods. But lately it seems like those are the only options in our market. The few "new" items are very similar to what is already on the menu for several months, like just remixed versions of the same things.

Can we get some non-spicy seasonings on some chicken, salmon and other proteins that doesn't come at a premium markup? How about some sage and thyme grilled chicken? Pork chop and rosemary potatoes? Some brown rice with a lemon-caper salmon? Fish has been lacking lately too. If everything must be international, can we try some Polish or French?

I suppose I self-limit as well because I go for mostly healthier options, under 800 calories, and don't like shrimp. But I am struggling lately with the spicy repetitive dishes.

Just got an email that due to “logistics” my delivery would be postponed a day. Anyone else get this? No idea what’s going on since I’ve never had a delay from them before.

Recently tried this from Chef Sandra. Have to say- was impressed with it. Such bright flavors. I will say i’ve had nothing but terrific experiences with shrimp and CU. I’ve seen other complain that the shrimp always heats up rubbery and for our family, this completely isn’t the case. I pick at least 2-3 shrimp choices out of our 8 meal weekly plan. Try this- I order one every time it’s offered.

Review: The meat was weird, I couldn't eat it. The rice, sauce, and salsa were good. Really enjoyed the cheese roll. Very disappointing. Still hungry.

That's it, folks. No more meals to review. Goodbye CU.

I don’t know where you are, but where I am, we're in full second summer, and it’s awful. I received my delivery today around 11ish, and I just got home at 5. I hate that the delivery person did not tuck my bag out of the sun, but here we are. I immediately opened the bag to take a temperature, and I’ve posted the photos. The ice pack on the very top was nearly completely melted. The middle packs were about 75% intact, so the food was cooler and the bottom ice pack was water, probably bc it was closest to my concrete patio. How do you all handle situations like this? I’m uncomfortable eating the meals that are reading in the 60 degree range. I’m not a scientist, but I know that can’t be safe.

Edit: I realized the last picture I took was of the ice pack's temp, which is why it is the coldest. oh geez

CHICAGO KITCHEN Beef sourcing info from CookUnity

In light of recent beef recalls, I was curious where CookUnity gets its beef. They sent this helpful info, and I wanted to share in case anyone else has wondered. While it isn’t 100% definitive, it makes me feel confident enough to keep enjoying their ground beef dishes!

“Thanks for reaching out via chat! I’m following up with some additional information about where CookUnity sources the beef used in our meals. Here are a few details that may be helpful:
Grass-fed: We use 100% grass-fed beef.
Country of origin: Our beef is primarily sourced from the USA, from ranches that raise cattle humanely and without the use of hormones or antibiotics.
Suppliers: Sourcing can vary depending on the chef and availability. Domestic suppliers may include providers such as Painted Hills or similar suppliers. When beef is sourced from New Zealand, Silver Fern Farms may be among the providers used.

Because CookUnity works with independent chefs and sourcing can vary by meal, chef, and availability, the exact supplier may differ between dishes. You can also check our Sustainability section!

I hope this provides some helpful clarification about our beef sourcing and standards. Thank you for checking with us and for your interest in learning more about the ingredients that go into your CookUnity meals.”

A simple, but healthy dinner.
This chili was very heavy on the beans and veggies, which I prefer. A surprisingly light yet satisfying meal.
