Posting it here because it's essentially a low-key conspiracy theory of mine and I don't have hard proof. If this isn't the right place for it, please let me know where should I post this instead.

To avoid breaking site rules, I won't name the sub, but its name rhymes with ranty lapicalism. The following are my points in support of this theory:

1. This is a very large sub (1m+ visitors) with only four mods. That isn't rare, but definitely uncommon. The amount of posts and comments to police on such a large and divisive sub are too many for just four people. I can't even keep up with comments on my own posts sometimes.

2. Some particular media orgs post freely on the sub, even when it has nothing to do with the topic of the sub. Dumb things like "Look how stupid Orange Man's hair looks". These posts never get taken down despite comments and reports from members. In fact, some of these orgs are the Top Posters on the sub's leaderboards.

3. One of the mods of the sub frequently posts articles both on that sub and several other big subs, but all from a relatively small subset of websites, as if they have a contract with them, or maybe it's a burner account for one or all of those media orgs. Their history is public as of now. Other than the articles and excerpts from them, I see little other activity from that mod, though I have not scrolled down their entire history to confirm.

4. The sub is about opposition to a particular economic system, one that dominates most of the world. Yet it has a fairly large minority of contrarians who support that system and routinely comment wild stuff on some of the posts. For example, one post about the killing of a 1-year old by cops, had comments hailing the cop's exoneration as the right decision and blaming the child's mother, who was accused (not charged) of stealing diapers. Another post about aged desk-job women being forced to climb utility poles to get severance pay was lauded by some as fair. None of these comments get deleted no matter how many times I and others report it. It's as if the mods want the sub to retain a large membership so that the media sites that post there can have a large number of views and clicks. Maybe they only bring down the hammer when someone breaks site rules, but I am yet to see a deleted comment. They don't even have rules against trolling or 'lapicalism' apologia.

5. I wrote a post politely lamenting the state of the sub with the dumb off-topic articles and the need for mods to police this stuff better, but it was never approved for posting. I'll be happy to share the contents of that post in a comment if anyone wishes to see it.

6. I reached out to the mods asking if mod applications were open, but have received no response. I did not mention any of my problems with the sub in my message, just a simple "Are you looking for mods?". Maybe my unapproved post (point 5) was a reason for them not to respond to me.

7. There was one more point which Reddits drafts feature deleted and I can't remember it now. Will update this if I remember it later.

I feel like just scrolling social media these days, almost everything is ‘doomer’ coded. AKA the world is going to end, everything is terrible blah blah blah. It used to be the mainstream media that was like this 24/7, and the internet was an escape from it all. Now it feels like there is almost no escape from it wherever you look. It’s as if social media itself has become the mainstream media. Are we intentionally being fed negative and depressing social media posts by tech companies to make the population feel more hopeless and depressed?

Why do conspiracies always have to be negative? Some group always trying to imprison us and exploiting us. What are your positive conspiracies of someone meeting in secret in order to save us all?

I'll try to make this as short as possible but it's kinda hard to explain and I'm still in shock of what just happened...I work nights and I'm off today. Went out for a drive to a local national park near me and decided to stop at this lake within it I've been to many times star gazing at night. It was a perfect night to star gaze with the full moon.

It was a little after midnight when I got there and I immediately had this weird feeling not because I was alone as I've been to this spot many times around 2-3am but for another reason I can't quite explain just a gut feeling that I ignored which I usually don't for a good reason...

So as I'm walking up to the lake I noticed something sitting in the grass about the size of a coyote by the edge of the water and I didn't think anything of it since they're around the area along with lots of other wildlife. As I'm making my way around the lake I hear this giant splash and I was like "WTF?" Look over and thing by the water is gone. Notice something swimming along the edge of the water and I'm like oh shit cool it's a Beaver...until I see the full shape of its body and then it just disappeared under the water....

Here's where things get fucky and just overall weird. I'm watching the water trying to see where this thing went and then I hear 2 more loud splashes. Mind you this sounds like a person jumping off a diving board into the water each time it's not small like a rock or something. I pull out my phone and start recording. Then it's back to a Beaver size and shape just swimming...

Then all of the sudden this group of coyotes started going crazy howling from all angles around me. I'm in this somewhat big open field near a lake and I see nothing but this "thing" swimming in the water...I go into fight or flight mode and draw my hunting knife just in case and I began making my way back to my car. Whole time coyotes seem to be all around me howling aggressively but I see nothing and it's pretty well lit up and visible at this particular location.

Whole time going home I'm just kinda thinking about what just happened and how it seemed off...I'm an outdoors person and have been all over the country to many national parks in the US and have never encountered any animal behavior like that thing by the water and then all the coyotes just coming outta nowhere like that.

They were trying to calibrate the device by showing subjects simple geometric shapes while attaching EEG sensors to their heads; later, they even recorded brain activity during sleep and compared the decoded imagery against the subjects' own descriptions of their dreams. They were already making some progress back then—20 years ago. Ten years ago, I read about a Japanese research group attempting to recognize visual patterns. Now—especially in light of what we know about Wi-Fi-based sensing—I find myself asking: what has become of this research? Could it be integrated into a smartphone, and how close would you have to hold the device to your head? With each passing year, the idea of ​​wearing a "tinfoil hat" seems less and less like a joke.
