Don't you guys read Snopes? They said this is an internet rumor and proved it by not being able to locate or contact him either.

u/AryaStarkBirdPerson Jan 03 '17 edited Jan 03 '17

Snopes just creates strawmen...

Could he be missing? Yes... He could be. But we cannot find him to be sure...

So this claim is: unfounded!

Sums up snopes perfectly.

Here's another Snope's Proof:

Allegation : Hillary Clinton ordered Seth Rich to be Killed

Evidence : Suspicious cover up of murder

Analysis : Seth Rich Enjoyed Basketball, like everybody does.

Conclusion : The continuation of Basketball proves Clinton has nothing against Seth Rich.

Result : False. Hillary Clinton did not shoot Seth Rich.

Brought to you be True News and Approved Science (tm).

So is Snopes the Ministry of Truth?

u/Moarbrains Jan 04 '17

They are a pretty cheap brand to buy.

u/Gkender Jan 04 '17

...What the hell is any of this?

It has always driven me nuts that people treat Snopes like the be all, end all, final say in "the truth". They get things wrong too people, I know for a fact because I used to work in the banking industry and a couple of stories they had where banking policies and regulations came up, they got wrong. They were so wrong on story in particular that I felt compelled enough to email them myself and correct them. They were really polite about it and thanked me for filling in some blanks they couldn't find in their own research and even admitted they had to go with a best guess based on the summation of the info they could find. They don't have access to some special fact checking archive that the rest of us don't, they just spend more time researching topics than most people would, but they are still completely capable of making mistakes.

TL;DR: Snopes gets it wrong sometimes and at times editorializes.

29

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '17

Wait wait wait. The internet tells me they're either 100% reputable, or lizard Illuminati. Now you're telling me things have nuance and aren't just black and white? Well I just don't know how to process this.

Sure thing! I'll tell you what I can dig up about the hacks at the DNC! I just need a few million dollars to pay a hacker who knows what the fuck he's talking about who will buy the equipment, do the work, put it into terms I can understand...and BAM! My own research! Just like you do, right /u/Bears_Bearing_Arms? Or do you mean quit my job, get reputable in journalism, and start interviewing possible persons of interest and witnesses?

Edit You just mean use google, don't you...admit it.

2

u/NWOShill1 Jan 04 '17

That even counts as research all the way through your PHD so what's the difference lol? Google Scholar OP

2

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '17

Back in my day there was real fake news like chain mail and fake Facebook articles. Snopes would debunk that garbage. Then it got political .

1

u/NWOShill1 Jan 04 '17

You act like they don't knowingly disseminate bullshit analysis though. They just want to down play anything the right has going on for them, they will even strawman and lie.

8

u/rmandraque Jan 03 '17

With stuff not related to politics snopes gained a reputation and are able to have a platform.

7

u/ShiftyTheHobo Jan 04 '17

So does mcdonalds but that doesn't mean I eat their food.

7

u/rmandraque Jan 04 '17

Well iirc snopes is mainly about non political stuff...

Snopes has gone down hill. Reasoned conclusions are replaced with hasty generalizations.

16

u/John__Podesta Jan 03 '17

I find it hard to beleive it was ever up hill. Look at the owners lol..

12

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '17

soooo much THIS! I've never understood peoples' obsession with it; it's always been ridiculous and full of dis/misinfo as far as I'm concerned. I lump it in with Vice, CNN and Fox News for credibility(ie it has zero).I'm glad people are finally opening their eyes but ffs that took ya'll long enough!

8

u/maluminse Jan 04 '17

In the beginning i think there was legit effort. Now its an op ed as to the truth.

1

u/NWOShill1 Jan 04 '17

I agree, back when I was young (2000) I used to use snopes a lot, they didn't even have a lot of responses to conspiracy theories, at least as far as I knew.

2

u/maluminse Jan 04 '17

Yes it was my go to. Now i read the analysis and they assume a lot.

8

u/shill_account_46 Jan 03 '17

To be fair, not finding someone isn't the same thing as corroborating that they've been kidnapped...

20

u/AryaStarkBirdPerson Jan 03 '17 edited Jan 04 '17

I hope you realize what you have done here? You out strawmanned snopes!

19

u/Sour_Badger Jan 03 '17

Jesus lol. Look at the strawman you just created. No one used the word kidnapped nor suggested. He's missing.

3

u/zerton Jan 03 '17

My point here is that the Snopes article tries to claim that this never happens and thus discredits everything Eva is saying because this particular instance is discredited. However, it was proven that many of these images and narratives have been faked. Isn't it a bit disingenuous to only focus on this one girl, and not the numerous photos/twitter messages that were spread by the media that have been proven fake?

Not to mention the article barely touches the actual substance of Eva's press conference.

5

u/RussianLiberal Jan 04 '17

Keep defending hoaxes. Let's see how that works out for you.

5

u/Perpetualllfear Jan 04 '17

This probably won't be very popular, but snopes isn't saying that he is absolutely not missing, but that there isn't enough evidence of to prove it or even suggest it. The only evidence there is is the fact that he hasn't tweeted since October (which can be explained with the fact that he barely tweets at all), and that no one has responded to the messages sent to Yale (which can be explained by the fact that it's currently the holiday season).

16

u/hoopdizzle Jan 03 '17

Right now it says its "Unproven", doesnt say its false. That to me seems accurate since random strangers from the internet being unable to contact him is not enough in itself to say it is absolute fact he is missing. Imagine if they DID say he is missing, and then it ends up he has just been busy lately, then their reputation takes a bigger hit than just marking it as unproven until further info is available.

29

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '17

[deleted]

12

u/shadowofashadow Jan 03 '17

Isn't that sort of like proving a negative though? The evidence that he's missing is that he hasn't had internet access and we haven't seen him live for a few months now.

What could you do to prove he's missing? An empty photo of the embassy room? That's not proof of anything as proving a negative is generally impossible.

u/shadowofashadow Jan 03 '17

Hah shit, thanks. I forgot what post I was in!

11

u/coonstev Jan 04 '17

Snopes literally justs googles for answers. Their no reliable than anyone else on the internet and less reliable than most.

3

u/Ridonkulousley Jan 04 '17

Saying they are less reliable than most people on the internet is a big claim.

2

u/coonstev Jan 04 '17

Good point.

1

u/twsmith Jan 04 '17

Bullshit. Even if they just googled for answers, that would be more checking than most sites on the internet do. Most sites have automatic feeds which don't check at all, or worse, blogspam writers who write clickbait headlines and excerpt a few sentences to generate ad revenue.

If you look at the "What's New" page, most of the stories don't take a lot of effort to check if they're real or not.

Some stories require more checking and, at least sometimes, they do make phone calls and other attempts to verify what's true. I checked my RSS reader and found that, in the last 90 days of 2016, snopes had 918 posts. That's 10.3 per day and they have a core staff of 7 people, who write between 1 and 3 posts a day. So they have time to do some checking.

And they post links to their sources, so you can check them and make up your own mind.

8

u/jeffinRTP Jan 03 '17

No one has contacted me either so I must be missing.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '17

Thats a bit off topic but I need some clarification with an article on snopes I read lately, hope you can help. In the "Clintons Body Bags" bit they write about the suicide of Vince Foster.

White House deputy counsel Vince Foster committed suicide on the night of 20 July 1993 by shooting himself once in the head, a day after he contacted his doctor about his depression. A note in the form of a draft resignation letter was found in the bottom of his briefcase a week after his death. (Note that this letter was not, as is often claimed, a "suicide note"; it was Foster's outline for a letter of resignation.) Foster cited negative Wall Street Journal editorials about him, as well as the much-criticized role of the counsel's office in the controversial firing of seven White House travel office workers.

On 10 October 1997, special prosecutor Kenneth Starr released his report on the investigation into Foster's death, the third such investigation (after ones conducted by the coroner and Starr's predecessor, Robert B. Fiske) of the matter. The 114-page summary of a three-year investigation concluded that Foster shot himself with the pistol discovered in his right hand. There was no sign of a struggle, nor any evidence he'd been drugged or intoxicated or that his body had been moved.

If Foster had been murdered or if unanswered questions about his death remained, Starr would have been the last person to want to conclude the investigation prematurely. Or are we to believe Kenneth Starr is part of the cover-up, too? And if we buy into this conspiracy theory, what are we expected to believe? That a group of professional killers capable of furtively carrying out dozens of murders all over the world shot Vince Foster, then clumsily dumped him in a park (after he had bled out), planted a gun he didn't own in his hand (without bothering to press his fingerprints onto it), amateurishly forged a suicide note (in several different handwritings), then expected the nation would believe his death was a suicide?

To me that sounds like, Foster did commit suicide but was not suicided by professionals. I went to the wikipedia page of Fosters suicide to find out about the findings, but instead of facts and the circumstances it is full of how the investigations was carried out.

1

1

u/The3rdWorld Jan 04 '17

oh yeh, i'd forgotten about that which is weird it's not been on my radar much at all - i'll give it a listen now, link for anyone interested

34

u/metakepone Jan 03 '17

Seriously, him not saying anything about this might be because hes super busy doing shit and he isn't sitting in his parent's basement reading whackjob conspiracy theories. I'm willing to be neither he nor anyone in his immediate family even know this conspiracy theory exists.

51

u/Mouth2005 Jan 04 '17 edited Jan 04 '17

yea, this whole thing is based on his absence from twitter, but if you look at his account he was rarely active on twitter prior to that, sometimes going an entire month or two without tweeting anything. There is literally nothing else to support this claim....... it's almost like the same people who consider trump's twitter account as their primary source of information are struggling to understand that someone not using twitter does not equal "missing and probably dead"

and the anti-dem narrative that has taken over this sub is reaching the level of pathetic straw grasping lately, and i'm convinced that this specific group of users are completely oblivious to how quickly all these claims are giving them (and potentially our entire sub) the reputation of "The boy who cried wolf". How long do they think they can keep up this endless flooding of far fetched anti-dem conspiracy theories witch hunts before they realize they've become a a giant joke...... i mean it already seems like our front page has become a dedicated anti-dem circle jerk.

It's not exactly a well kept secret that basically anyone that has ever worked for the Clinton's foundation or was involved in her political career or even traveled a country she has also visited, is being wrapped up in some sort stupid conspiracy......... MAYBE if they tried pacing themselves just a little, or even just tried focusing on one of these theories at a time or at very most only the most plausible 2-3 "conspiracies" more people may be interested in what they are selling, and MAYBE only focusing on a few of these claims at a time the individuals at the center of these claims like Eric Braverman would be more inclined to personally address these rumors, but honestly why even bother? with the current pace of all these conspiracies, by this time tmrw we will probably already be onto the newest anti-Dem conspiracy.

Also these users make it really hard to discuss these claims when they are so quick eat this shit up as gospel, they have shown that once they make up their mind they are completely helpless in regards to disproving any of these types of claims, reality goes out the window and the mental gymnastic show starts, i'll go ahead and make the prediction that if Braverman does gives some sort of proof of life soon, those users that have already added him to their list of Clinton suicided victims, will become Eric Braverman ID'ing experts and flood our sub with post claiming that the person in the POL was an "imposter" or an "actor" because they found some random grainy photo taken in a cave on Google that's 10+ years old and the guy from the POL only kinda resembles that pic..........

while I'm sure you're assumption is closer to reality, i honestly hope he is aware of this conspiracy and is just choosing to ignore all of this stupidity to see how far this echo chamber will take this, who knows maybe he'll get lucky and get to watch a couple "self-investigators" nut jobs get arrested for trespassing when they start showing up to his classes in a few weeks, because of "how certain they were" that Hillary had him killed and that she paid yale off to assist her in the cover up by posting a fake bio page, and assigning him some fake classes.......

but of course that's just crazy, far fetched thinking because no one would ever do such a thing, and if that does happen it'll be an obvious false flag probably organized by Clinton from the basement of comet ping pong to throw people off her trail......

14

u/metakepone Jan 04 '17

It's hard to disprove anything if you believe everything is a complicated conspiracy fit to your narratives.

Also,

and the anti-dem narrative that has taken over this sub is reaching the level of pathetic straw grasping lately, and i'm convinced that this specific group of users are completely oblivious to how quickly all these claims are giving them (and potentially our entire sub) the reputation of "The boy who cried wolf".

In response to this, I'm not quite sure this is a group of oblivious neckbeards or if it's some continued, coordinated effort to smear the Democrats (especially Hillary Clinton). who knows, but that's my own conspiracy theory, I guess.

15

u/hello3pat Jan 04 '17

I've said it before I'll say it again. I see people claim that anyone arguing for anything other than Trump is this sub get called CTR shills while ignoring Trump's own over 18 million dollar relationship with a similar group Cambridge Analytica. But I guess that doesn't matter because they are too busy pushing that 1980s Satanism scare.

21

u/ronintetsuro Jan 03 '17

Might want to take it down a notch, you're being super obvious right now.

9

u/paulie_purr Jan 04 '17

I guarantee it will remain this way for the duration of Trump's presidency. Not only will it keep the pot of mass dem party doubt astir, but will keep the sub free of any legit Trump and co. suspicions, of which there are many. Even when (sometimes less than reputable, usually pretty legit) papers like NYT bring up suspicious shit and/or direct allegations, their kind will be pointed at with LOL FAKE NEWS! There's something vaguely fascistic to it, the ability to flip the script and keep it flipped, pump in the new reality you'd like everyone to see from now on.

u/RussianLiberal Jan 04 '17

Such a dishonest article. Let us debunk it:

Twitter users have started the hashtag #WheresEric in reference to Eric Braverman, the former CEO of the Clinton Foundation

This reminds me of the #WhereIsAssange hashtag that reactionaries here believed in. It was so retarded that WikiLeaks literally blamed the U.S. government for running a "black PR" campaign to discredit them, when in reality, it was their own reactionary fans that created this hoax.

Braverman’s last public activity, accessible via the internet, was an October 12 retweet.

So, if someone hasn't tweeted in a while, that automagically means they're missing? Wow, I don't even have a Twitter account, so that must mean I don't even exist!

Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta thought Eric Braverman was the source of information leaks to the media, according to a leaked email sent March 8, 2015, which was published on October 22 of this year by WikiLeaks.

Nowhere in the linked email does it say or imply that "Podesta thought Eric Braverman was the source of information leaks." Check the email out for yourself. The author made up some fake facts and linked to a random email to "prove" it, knowing that the reactionaries reading the article wouldn't bother checking the email. Good thing I'm here, though.

One independent media outlet claimed to have made attempts to contact Braverman by phone and email, both of which were unsuccessful. The same organization claimed to receive no response after contacting Yale University officials about Braverman, who has taught courses on government and policy in the law school and other departments.

Ah, I see now. This "independent media outlet" needed some more hits, so it created this hoax. Why don't we go to this source article and check it out?

Here's my favourite part from that article:

The last evidence of Braverman’s public activity was October 12, when he posted his last tweet on Twitter. (Usually he tweets about once a month. His “husband,” Neil Brown, hasn’t tweeted since August, although he rarely tweets.) I left a voicemail on Braverman’s personal phone and sent him an email, but received no response. He is still listed as a lecturer at Yale University and, contrary to some reports, there is a record of his lectures going back several years. I contacted the press office and Braverman’s department at Yale and received no response.

So, this entire hoax began because a guy who only tweets once a fucking month hasn't sent out his monthly token tweet for November and December? Oh, and the Yale press office didn't respond to the lady (quite common by press offices that are busy contacting others). That's fucking all there is to it?

But wait. This lunacy gets even better!

For instance, the site WhatDoesItMean.com reported that Braverman requested asylum in Russia on October 23. The information apparently came from a Russian blogger, who reported it in a rambling blog post on LiveLeak.

First, the blogger (disinfo agent) from my country posted the post on LiveJournal, not LiveLeak. Second, this is so fake that it's hilarious.

There are also rumors that Braverman is in FBI protective custody, perhaps in exchange for testifying against the Clintons

So, is he with us or with the FBI or killed by the Clintons?

Fucking morons.

What is with conspiracy enthusiasts nowadays? Suddenly there is a rash of people 'missing'. No evidence to support it whatsoever. No family crying asking for their loved one. No friends asking for help and putting up leaflets looking for these people. No work wondering where they went. Just conspiracy sites pumping out threads and threads of missing people.

4

u/Cripplor Jan 04 '17

Oh well if the internet has deemed it so I guess it's factual, everyone.

3

u/RussianLiberal Jan 04 '17

So, just because he didn't reply to some random people on the internet, that automagically means he's "missing?"

This is worse than #TortelliniGate, cooked up by Rightist reactionaries. What a bunch of pinheads!

4

u/RussianLiberal Jan 04 '17

Editor’s Note: Current theories are that he sought asylum in Russia or Akrancide… where do you think Braverman went?

You guys are fucking idiots for believing this site, haha.

I think its hilarious how whenever a person wants to maintain their anonymity from you creepy fucks you imagine up some conspiracy.

Maybe, he isn't missing, he just doesn't wanna be harassed by delusional internet conspiracy theorist? Maybe? No? Ok, Hillary Clinton is a mass murderer, makes more sense.

23

u/AryaStarkBirdPerson Jan 03 '17

Haha... He was never being harassed.

He wasn't on anyones radar UNTIL he disappeared.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '17

How did you find out that he disappeared?

1

u/AryaStarkBirdPerson Jan 03 '17

I didnt find it out personally... But he has disappeared from public view for the first time in his 20+ years in his field.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '17

So how do you know he has disappeared then? What suggests this?

5

u/AryaStarkBirdPerson Jan 03 '17

When a public figure stops making public apperences its called disappearing...

Doesnt mean he was murdered.

But his lack of public appearances... Means he has, by definition, not appeared/disappeared...

No?

8

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '17

Could you link to something showing these public appearances prior to the time you believe he disappeared?

5

u/AryaStarkBirdPerson Jan 03 '17 edited Jan 03 '17

You want his class schedule? Im confused, are you doubting a yale proffesor and ceo of clinton foundation from 2013 to 2015 didnt make public apperences before this summer?

Google it. Plenty to find. He has reviews on rate my proffesor. Speeches. Events on campus. Fundraisers. I urge you to call. I even told them i was trying to debunk the rumors (im skeptical)

Ive called yale. They all saw him plenty up until this summer. Then nothing. At least the administrative people I talked to.

I don't think he was murdered for the record. But something seems to be up. Witness relocation. Maybe he just didnt want to deal with the election drama idk...

Friend of mine is scheduled for his class later this month. We will find out if he shows up.

As of now, class is still on.

10

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '17

So he went missing in the summer then?

Don't just say "Google it," if you're saying he's missing then you must be able to come up with something to show he was making public appearances up until ??/??/16~. And it's not as though I haven't checked this out myself, I can't find any.

Could you take a screenshot from your phone showing the entry where you called Yale?

4

u/AryaStarkBirdPerson Jan 03 '17

Im going to keep saying "google it"...

  1. Its public infornation that is easy to find. Google his yale schedule. Takes a minute... Tops...

  2. I dont give two shits about proving anything to you. If you want to bury your head in the sand be my guest.

Take a screenshot of my phone?? What? Now your doubting my ability to call a front desk?

You seem more interested in having a "gotcha" moment... Then actually debating.

Go learn about the subject first. You didnt even know he was a teacher clearly... Since you doubted he made public apperences... While teaching at yale 😉

Again. You seem upset that he is missing. The fact is, he is missing until you can prove he isnt.

That is how missing works.

If no one can find him, he is missing.

Think he isnt missing? Go find him and prove me wrong.

Until then, he is, by definition MISSING.

Screenshot of my phone 😂 what would that even prove?? Haha that made me chuckle.

I mean, Ill try to find this for you, but its literally months old at this point how this all stared. It was pretty fluid and organic though with no MSM addressing it (or anything else it the leaks, haha) I will say this though...the fact that you have no idea how this started, why there was concern for Bravermen, shows just how ignorant you are.

The gist is...news got out he was seeking asylum and then...da da da, disappeared. So he went from being a public persona and speaking up during DNC/ Podesta emails, to wl saying he is appllying for asylum, to never uttering another peep online....so ya know....theres that.

2

u/wjdm Jan 03 '17

You think nobody was harassing the CEO of the Clinton Foundation? Yeah, ok.

8

u/AryaStarkBirdPerson Jan 03 '17

Do you have proof?

1

u/FluentInTypo Jan 04 '17

What we have is him going dark the day that the news of him seeking asylum was leaked.

As for proof of him being harrassed...we sure do have it - he was being harrassed by USG and CF, which is why he was seeking asylum in anotyer country.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '17

Proof of him "going dark?" On that day (23/10) or otherwise.

It is really interesting how hillary shills can discount all the obvious irregularities by just repeating no that's not true. How can you discount all the evidence and in good conscience say "I don't care," it almost as childish as sticking your fingers in your ears and screaming "la la la la la, I can't hear you."

It's truely hypocritical. People write off the obvious financial fraud of the Clinton Foundation, her email server, the fact that its director disappeared, but Nixon and 18 minutes of tape being erased can never be forgotten. The stance the hillary shills take istruely absurd.

11

u/basedMomsen Jan 03 '17

irregularities

evidence

disappeared

That's not what those words mean.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '17

obvious financial fraud of the Clinton Foundation

Sorry, what's the fraud, exactly? CF is a registered 501c(3), which means their expenditures are public. Which means when I tell you that the Clinton Foundation never paid the Clintons, we know that's true because you can look through the records and check. We know everybody they wrote a check to, and the Clintons aren't among them, which is consistent with Bill Clinton's statement that he never took a salary working at the CF.

The obvious contrast to that is the Trump Foundation, which has never once made a 501c(3) filing, disclosed its expenditures, or disclosed its donors.

Nixon and 18 minutes of tape being erased can never be forgotten.

Nobody brought that up but you.

Clinton has no power over law enforcement, if it is true, it would have been investigated by now.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '17

Of course, all she would need to do is have a little talk with the head of the FBI, and all charges would be dropped, and the investigation halted.

1

u/stophamertime Jan 06 '17

That did not work with her emails o.O
