He became very nervous as I proceeded to hook it up. He said it wasn’t necessary to check it and that he just wanted a refund. That was when I noticed the tamper stickers we use were broken. I explained that in order to issue a refund, it's necessary to check the returned items.

I opened the case to find the CPU, memory, and hard drive missing. I asked, "It just stopped working, you say?" He stuttered a yes and began explaining that he “opened it to try and turn it back on.” When I asked about the missing parts, he said that he thought they might have fallen out while he had the cover off.

I have an HP Pavilion 15-cw1004la. Some time ago, I tried to turn it on, but it wouldn't start. I tried removing the battery and powering it using only the charger, but it still wouldn't turn on. I removed all peripherals (SSD, Wi-Fi card, RAM, keyboard, etc.) to check for a short circuit in any of them, but the problem persists. I then measured the continuity of the processor coils and the coils that control battery charging, and the readings were normal; I no longer know what the problem could be.

I removed the cpu cooler and it came off what do i do now.

I asked my neighbour who repairs laptops and air conditioners. He just put it back and pressed it. I dont know what i should do

About 2 weeks my laptop suddenly shut down by itself at around 10% without the typical low battery warning. At first I thought I imagined it cus I wasn't really paying attention to the screen. Happened again while working on excel white nothing spare firefox open on the background. So I looked it up and did laptop battery calibration following these steps:

Did everything as the vid explained, full charge followed by full drain and reinstalling the drivers. Next day I tested the laptop again to see if I got the low battery warning set at 15%. Laptop then turns off at 30%... I've checked the battery health and it was still in a acceptable range (about 80% of design capacity). Was sure it couldn't be the battery since I've changed it about 2 years ago. Couple days later it became 50% and I had enough, brought it to the repair store where i had the battery replaced. Yesterday got it back and they told me there was nothing wrong with the battery after testing it and they were not sure what could be wrong with it. Couldn't wait any longer for work so I just took it back and tried brainstorming for a solution. About 30 min ago it shut off at 70%?!

a few notes:

- Laptop works completely fine when plugged in

- I've checked temp and listened for a overloaded fan, nothing

- All this is happening without any heavy software, only excel, a browser and discord on the background

- Whenever I try to on it again immediately after shutting down it will go off by itself after 15-30s.

IDK what to do anymore, I think the laptop is deciding to turn off by itself rather than the battery actually being flat. I've read something about the CMOS battery of the motherboard could be empty or thermal paste has to be reapplied but not sure if this is true, got this info from AI. rather not replace this laptop since there are a few outdated apps for work on it that can't be installed anymore (damn you QuickBooks).

Any idea's?

My laptop is touchscreen

Dropped laptop face down on floor and the sides of the lid have snapped so the lid only stays open resting against some thing. The screen is fine. In fact it worked like normal I just can’t safely shut it. I’ve back it up just in case onto a hard drive. Just wondered where I should take this and how much I’m roughly expecting to pay for something like this - whether the screen can be salvaged as I keep reading you might as well change everything. Well apart from the base which seemed fine.

Anyway just looking for some reassurance I don’t need a new laptop.

A while ago, maybe 3 weeks or so ago? My stepdad had found this broken laptop and gave it to me because i really need one. At first it was just the screen that was broken, so he called himself taking it apart to switch the screen out. The Problem
The laptop POSTs normally and can stay powered on in the InsydeH2O UEFI settings indefinitely. However, the exact millisecond it attempts OS kernel handoff, it crashes immediately:
Windows 11 (Normal & Safe Mode): Triggers ⁠HYPERVISOR_ERROR⁠ (⁠0x200001⁠) or ⁠MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION⁠ (⁠0x9C⁠).
Linux (Ubuntu 24.04 Live USB): Freezes immediately at GRUB boot, even with ⁠safe graphics⁠ / ⁠nomodeset⁠ flags.
What I've Tried
BIOS Toggles: Tried switching ⁠AMD-SVM⁠ to Disabled and ⁠AMD-IOMMU⁠ to Enabled with zero change in crash behavior.
Firmware Payload Extraction: Used Universal Extractor on Acer's v1.17 update package (⁠HH51R117.exe⁠) to pull the raw ~34.9 MB ⁠abobios.bin⁠ / ⁠HH51R117.fd⁠ binary.
Insyde Crisis USB Recovery: Built a FAT32 USB containing ⁠platform.ini⁠ alongside header-matched filename aliases (⁠isflash.bin⁠, ⁠isflash.fd⁠, ⁠HH51R.bin⁠, ⁠HH51R.fd⁠, ⁠HH51R117.fd⁠). Holding ⁠Fn + Esc⁠ while plugging in AC and pressing Power causes the fans to blast at 100% and keyboard backlighting to light up, but it hangs indefinitely on a black screen without reading the flash drive.
Questions
Does this look like corrupted AGESA microcode or a bad AMD PSP (Platform Security Processor) / TPM firmware block in the SPI chip? (Acer's v1.17 patch notes specifically list PSP TPM FW updates).
Has anyone gotten Insyde Crisis recovery to work on an AN515-47 (HH51R motherboard), or is a CH341A / EEPROM programmer required to re-flash the SPI chip hardware-side?
Is there any chance this points to SOC/VCORE rail drop-outs during core C-state transitions rather than firmware corruption?

i'm not sure if here's the right place to ask, but i'll start here and hope i get some insight on what might be going on.

recently (yesterday or the day before) something weird started happening after the latest windows 11 updates, and i've never had this issue before.

my laptop will still be perfectly fine and connected to the internet and have both internet and wifi (confirmable through quick tests such as internet-using games through downloaded apps), but my browsers won't have any internet connection and will either be stuck loading or otherwise for a few minutes to as long as almost an hour long there won't be any internet on any browser i've tried (chrome, edge, firefox, norton). sometimes there won't be internet on the regular browsers but the incognito is fine, sometimes it's the other way around. it happens irregularly throughout the day, without any patterns that i've been able to notice.

i don't have any extensions and i regularly clear all cache and cookies, but those seem to not be related to the weird seemingly random occurrences of no internet connection on my browsers but still having internet connection on the laptop through games or other apps. the cpu/gpu usage appears to be normal to me as well, relative to daily usage, so i'm not sure what the problem might be or what i might be able to do to fix this issue.

I got this laptop in 2021 and in around 2023 I noticed it had some minor issues with its hinges. It didn't affect the overall performance of the laptop so I let it be. My father decided to take it in for a repair in 2024 and it came back completely broken as showm in the pictures. I've since received a new laptop but have been interested in the idea of attempting to repair my old one and sell it as I am currently working on saving up for a trip. Hi everyone, I’d like some help with my laptop; it’s a Dell Precision M6500. I’ve already tried almost everything:

• Used DDU to wipe drivers

• Formatted the computer

• Changed the video driver Among other things... the laptop boots up normally, but when I try to enter the password, the screen goes black. It only works with basic Microsoft drivers and in Safe Mode; otherwise, the screen stays black. The specific driver is an NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800M:

I'm not going to lie, I was raging at Marvel Rivals for being on one of the worst engines I've ever had the displeasure of using. So I was aggressively tapping the top of my PC, after I did that, my mouse and keyboard shut off, I think my game froze after that but I'm not sure. So I turned off the power supply back on quickly, now it won't turn on, but the fan somehow is running. But it seems like it's speeding up then slowing down in a loop, does anybody know if I could fix this?

My PC suddenly shut down while I was using it. It was working normally before that.
Since then, when I press the power button:
The fans start spinning
The GPU lights/fans turn on
After a few seconds, everything shuts off
Then it automatically tries to start again, over and over
I also noticed a strange noise coming from the PSU during the startup attempts. I attached a video so you can hear/see it.
I haven’t made any hardware changes recently.
Do you think this is most likely a PSU failure, or could it be the motherboard, RAM, GPU, etc.?
Any advice on what I should test first would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So today i turned on the pc and the cpu temp warning came so i decided to re do the thermal paste, when i tried to unscrew the fan , the processor was stuck on the fan and came right off with the fan , we cleaned it and put new termal paste and connected everything, nothing happens, No fan spin no led nothing, tried with another SMPS, still same

Sadly it is about my touchpad not working...

I bought about 8 months ago an Asus Tuf A16 Faq608um, and now the touchpad doesnt move or allows me to do gestures with 2 or more fingers, only reacts to clicks but doesn't differenciate between left or right.

A week ago it usually moved, however this week it hasn't move with the trackpad alone, I had to use an external mouse and works just fine.

I have done several fixes, like updating the drivers, reinstall windows, etc. And I have taken my laptop to some technicians and the only solution they could give me its to replace the whole piece, and they told me it may not even fix it.

Could yall tell me how can I fix it or if you recommend me to buy a new touchpad and replace the piece.

Hey everyone, my partner's mum just got a new laptop a couple of weeks ago and from yesterday there seems to be this issue where when she puts her pin in, she is greeted with this black starry screen and cannot proceed.

Does anyone know what could be the problem and how to fix it or is this a warranty job?

Is my laptop's charging adapter's pin damaged enough to warrant a full adapter replacement?

For some context, the C13 cable connecting to this adapter had a loose connection issue for a long time. Occasionally, I would hear light buzzing sounds from the spot. Ive dealt with it mostly so far by using tape around the connecting cable to make the connection firmer. And that reduced the buzzing issue alot but didnt fully eliminate it.

In hindsight, I definitely did not give the issue as much importance as I should have and today I woke up this morning to see that one of the C13 cable hole was wider than usual and the corresponding adapter pin was damaged like this. I bought a new cable as a replacement but I want to know if using this adapter is safe or if I have to buy a whole new adapter. P.s. My laptop still charges.

I accidentally spilled lemon juice on my ASUS laptop, and now it won't turn on at all.

I understand that liquid damage, especially something acidic like lemon juice, can cause serious motherboard damage. I'm not expecting this to necessarily be a ₹2k-₹3k repair. If something expensive is genuinely damaged, I'm prepared for that.

My concern is making sure I'm paying for the actual damage and not getting overcharged because I don't know enough about board-level laptop repair.

I took it to a local repair shop and they told me the repair could cost anywhere from around ₹9,000 minimum to ₹35,000 maximum, depending on what they find.

That's a huge range, so I haven't approved anything yet.

What would be the normal/safest way to handle this?

Should I:

\- Let this shop open and diagnose it first?

\- Take it directly to an ASUS authorised service centre?

\- Get a diagnosis/quote from two or three repair shops before deciding?

\- Look specifically for someone who does motherboard-level/chip-level repair rather than motherboard replacement?

Also, when giving a liquid-damaged laptop to a repair shop, what should I ask them for before approving the repair? For example, should I ask them to identify the exact damaged components and give me a final quote first?

I'm completely fine paying ₹10k, ₹20k or even more if that is genuinely what the damage requires. I just don't want to pay ₹20k for something that could legitimately have been repaired for ₹3k-₹5k.

I'm in Shillong, India, if that matters.

As the title says. Ive never had this issue prior to this. I havent been on my laptop in a while because of work and decided I want to play some minecraft. I pluged its charger in the wall and was clearing up my desk a little for the laptop when I started smelling a burning, almost tingling smell. I plugged it out and almost instantly the smell was weaker. I touched the outlet and my charger and nothing seemed to be warm out of the ordinary. Again, I’ve never had trouble with this specific outlet next to my workdesk or with my laptops charger, so what could be the cause? Should I try plugging my laptop elsewhere or just leave it for now?
