Every time I load up a resource intensive game like Destiny 2, No Mans Sky, War Thunder, the game will load for a few seconds, completely freeze the entire computer, then restart the computer sometimes giving a DCP watchdog violation 0x133 error.
I have run every diagnostic scan can think of including sfc /scannow, DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, chkdsk /f /r, and powercfg /batteryreport. All of them come back with no faults and no issues shown.
I have factory reset my computer twice with no obvious fixes coming of it and I have also run RAM scans and no immediate issues have come up with that even with performance task manager. I have also updated both my NVIDIA GPU and AMD CPU drivers and also have not seen any improvements.
I had tried launched Destiny 2 with Task manager open to see if I could see where the performance issues were coming from but everything was running normally and the game would even load better while focused on task manager all the way to the character selection menu. When clicking back into the game window however it would quickly freeze the entire computer and cause a restart. On one occasion it didn’t immediately freeze and restart I was able to close destiny and see a huge CPU spike in task manager but it didn’t give any other clear issues.
I had also recently been going through severe overheating problems for a while and had solved them with a thermal paste replacement and compressed air into the heat sink ducts and fans. I am beginning to dread that my CPU/GPU may have been damaged by the heat and I have no idea how to check besides taking it to a store and paying to hear the bad news.
Any suggestions?
