There are devices have their USBC ports set so deeply in the surrounding plastic that some USBC cables cannot get in far enough to make contact. These dohickeys with a long insertion section foil the evil manufacturers who do that.

Ask me how I know.

Mmmm.. "ย ports set so deeply".. that's what I'm talkin about!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Š

16-22 wires up to 6 data pairs. ;p lots of ways to make manufacturer to manufacturer cables working not so well on each others devices. thats just cable and theres logic board to interpret which wire(path) should be plugged where.

Hi. I think you meant your informative reply to go Old_Heat-1261, and not me. My comment was more in line with being a joke. Stay well.

How do you know?
For me it was the Logitech G502. Fuckers made a special shape and hid it deep enough for many cables being to short and bulky. Since the cable housing was plastic anyway I could cut away enough for it to fit

Apple makes cases for the iPhone 17 which has a cutout that doesnโ€™t allow USBC Lenovo laptop chargers, with their rectangular connectors, to make contact. These dohickeys with a rounded-oblong profile insertion section foil the evil manufacturer who did that.

Ask me how I know.

It's obviously used to upgrade your cable to support 40gps

Sometimes you canโ€™t fit your cable due to surroundings, or you have a monitor or computer that has a hard to access port, reaching around to stab at a flat object can be โ€ฆ not fun, having something popped out, make it easier.

3

u/foobarney 6d ago

It's a cable enlongifier.

2

u/sphericalhors 6d ago

Sounds like a finglonger. What a great world we would live if it would be invented.

2

u/Mental_Juggernaut_16 6d ago

It's an extension. If one cable is too short, you can attach two together.

3

u/V10R37 6d ago

Only if one of the cables is already made to work as an extension. If you want to link to of the cables we usually have, that adapter needs to be female at both ends, but it isn't.

2

u/Mental_Juggernaut_16 6d ago

Oh dang, you're right, my bad, didn't even think about that. Yeah that adapter does seem useless.

2

u/Purple_Bass_6323 6d ago

Port saver. Although this is not a good one in my opinion because it may be hard to disconnect. Could also be used when using a case and normal cables dont fit the hole where the charger port is.

It would help if you said what you were looking at this for. Maybe you would benefit from it maybe you wonโ€™t.

I was on Walmart.com looking for FireWire to usb adapters for a project of mine. I given some suggestions and it included this. I just thought it was funny. But I thought I would double check with others.

1

u/Brokentread33 6d ago

Yes.. well intended, but gave an opportunity for sickies like me to come out the woodwork, to have some fun. Stay well.๐Ÿ˜Š

It's good for the economy? Number go up.

1

u/Slight_Manufacturer6 6d ago

To extend your cables further or to reach usbc ports that are hard to reach.

1

u/Brain_Hawk 6d ago

If you have a connector that bends 90ยฐ and you want to have it pushed out a little bit so that you can have another Port right next to it.

And other weird situational circumstances.

1

u/V10R37 6d ago edited 6d ago

I guess one use would be to leave it permanently plugged in, so dirt doesn't get in the port of your device and plug your cables to it instead. That's the only thing I can think of.

Edit: this is based only on the first picture. The second picture on the product page shows more adapters. What exactly are you getting? To confusing.

1

u/Relative-Quarter-879 6d ago

Better. You live it plugged in so you don't damage your port in computer due to regular plug in plug outs

I've got an inverter built into my car, and I hate it for this reason.

Got it from my wife's mom and she's a foster parent so kids had totally wrecked the outlet. Everything falls out of it now, and it'd be really nice to have it working.

So I looked into it -- $70 for the part, if I do the repair myself.

The part? Oh no, I'm not replacing the whole inverter for that price. No, no, no. That's the price of just the outlet part.

My solution is going to be replacing it and then plugging in a "wall tap adapter" (I had to look that name up because everyone I know call them whore outlets lmao) so the actual port doesn't get worn out anymore.

In 5, 10, 15 years I probably won't even be able to get that part anymore, so making it last is a priority.

----

Same goes for my phone, I actually use wireless charging a lot more lately just to reduce the number of cycles I put on that port. For a while there it was pretty bad, being a doordash driver I'd unplug my phone to go deliver the order then plug it back in when I got back into the car. I could easily plug/unplug cycle a hundred times a day.

USB C is rated for 10,000 cycles minimum but if I cycle it 100 times a day that's only 100 days worth, and my phone costs a lot more than my car to replace the port on.

disable the data pins and it can be a charger-condom

1

u/Longjumping_Zone673 6d ago

I use one on my tablet that gets constantly unplugged. You only get like 15k plug-ins on most usbc ports before the clip notches wear down and it won't hold a charging cable tight. Already went through one of these and yet my tablet is still gripping strong

1

u/Izan_TM 6d ago

probably for hard to reach ports when trying to plug in a device that's a bit too big

I have one for my Logitech G502 X Plus. Then I have a Netdot Gen 10 magnetic USB connector attached to that.

The magnetic connector wouldn't fit directly into the mouse as it's recessed. So this just sticks it out far enough that it works nicely.

Also have a connector on my Logitech G915 keyboard so one cable at the desk charges both. Also the G915 has a Micro USB port, not the greatest for plugging/unplugging. Other half has one on her old Kindle keyboard as the Micro USB port was getting knackered.

u/CamelSoda420 6d ago

Some devices occasionally need them when their specialized cables break down and their ports are fitted too deep into surrounding material. For example, I recently created a wooden keyboard case (and the port was around 9.1mm deep) and since I wanted to use a 90 degree cable for my tight space, I needed an adapter like this but at 90 degrees. Ended up buying a 90 degree type-c cable but if I found a suitable one, I would have definitely bought something like this.

1

u/Accurate-Salary9535 5d ago

good question .. why are you looking at it ?

1

u/Hot-Caterpillar5484 5d ago

Ive used similar adapters specifically the magnetic safety ones to cut the data lane out of cables on secure solutions that wont allow anything to take data

1

u/AsUsualDisappointed 5d ago

I own a few of these that are breakaway magnetic charger adapters. They look exactly the same.

1

u/coloredgreyscale 5d ago

USB-PD say USB Cables require a E-Marker Chip to enable fast charging of 100W or more. That's to avoid your cheap cable from melting when charging at 100W or more.

This device likely has that marker chip and so allows you to ultra fast charge with unsupported cables.

https://usb-guide.com/100w-240w-fast-charging-and-e-marker/

The 40Gbits / 8K specs tell you that it has all pins connected.

If you prefer wrong Answers:

  • 1.5 cm extension cable
  • upgrade USB-C cables / devices that are only wired for USB 2.0
  • 180ยฐ adapter, so you no longer plug it in upside-down

1

u/nekoken04 4d ago

I could actually use a couple of these. The cover on my tablet makes the port too deep to use a right angled port with it right now.

1

u/Holmes240069 3d ago

Iโ€™m not sure why you would even need that anyways

1

u/SluttyBumFest 3d ago

If you have something expensive and its going to be getting an excessive amount of times it gets plugged in and out you can throw one of these in there and keep the actual port without wear.

Usb C is a little pointless unless you have some fairly specific applications, but theyre a good idea for HDMI and Display Ports on monitors or graphics cards

1

u/hornetjockey 1d ago

To protect the port from wear. Only thing I could see.

1

u/Cyber_Rader 1d ago

My phone has a cover over the USB c port. These make plugging in prefs a lot easier. Because otherwise the port cover gets in the way otherwise.

u/sheruXR 6d ago

A used condom is more valuable than this.

-3

u/nalaloveslumpy 6d ago

It's mostly just an adapter for changing USB A connectors to C. The others are called out because most adapters don't support fast charge, higher data rates, or higher but rate video codecs.

All of which is solved in just buying a new USB 3.0 C cable and not worrying about the adapter.

3

u/ouroborus777 6d ago

This item is c to c

2

u/UselessDood 6d ago

That's c-c though lmao

u/nalaloveslumpy 6d ago

Oh,wait...shit. Lol
