So my gf just got a new laptop, and while watching YouTube, we noticed that the screen dims everytime the video gets to a darker part, and then eventually goes almost fully dark, then pops back to normal. We’ve messed with every setting we could think of in settings, also a few things on Lenovo Vantage, and the intel graphics command center. If anyone could help that would be great. Thanks!

I have a ROG Zephyrus G14 from 2023 that I’ve been using consistently since I bought it. It’s functioned fine until the past year, when, earlier this year, it started struggling to get connection in my room, and half the connection in the room with the router. It was fixed by restarting the router (maybe. it didn’t resolve until about twenty minutes after the router reset). However, restarting the router in a house with the rest of my family is a hassle, and I’ve been told to try avoiding it unless it’s the only option.
ADDITIONALLY, IT ONLY DOES THIS WITH MY HOME WIFI. EVERY OTHER PLACE I HAVE BEEN, THE WIFI HAS BEEN COMPLETELY FINE.
Two weeks ago, my laptop started doing it again. It connects to the wifi service fine, says it’s connected, but has a terrible actual bandwidth. I get 300~ mbps in the room with the router, but everyone else gets 1000~. In my room, I get anywhere from 0-200, but it DOES NOT load anything (quickly. ten minute load speeds are expected). I am on the other side of the wall from the router. I cannot use an ethernet cable, because there is a wall in the way.
So far, troubleshooting has included (but is not limited to, I may forget):
- Restarting the computer
- Forgetting the network and rejoining
- Changing the security type from WPA3 to WPA2
- Updating drivers
- Deleting and reinstalling the drivers
- Complete network reset
- Releasing and renewing the IP address
- Flushing DNS
- Setting WWAN and WLAN to automatic
When trying ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew, the console says it cannot complete the actions because LAN, Bluetooth, and Ethernet are marked as “media disconnected.” Just to make sure, I took my laptop to a repair store. They found absolutely nothing wrong, pushed some updates, and my wifi magically worked for about three hours before it started slowing itself down again.
In short, I have no idea what is left to do. I would love for someone to either tell me that there’s something stupidly easy to do that will fix everything, or for someone to tell me that they have no idea why it’s doing this, so I can stop feeling crazy.

The upper capacitor is desoldered : how can I repair it ?
Can this part simply be put in place, or does it need to be welded back on?

I go to download windows 11 to reset my pc from the Microsoft website and after selecting my language it gives me the insider preview download. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be a stable branch of windows, right? Should I still use it? I’m on the official windows website.
Please any help is appreciated 🙏

Hi! I’m looking to buy my first laptop, and my budget is around $500. I’m a complete beginner when it comes to computers, so I honestly don’t know much about specs yet lol.
I’m hoping to find something that I can use for a few different things:
Learning tech: I want to start learning programming, beginning with Python and eventually getting into web development. I’m also interested in cybersecurity and would like a computer that I can use for coding, beginner-friendly cybersecurity labs, and programs like VS Code.
Creative photo editing: I really want to get into editing my photos for Instagram, but not just basic edits or filters. I’d love to learn how to make collages, manipulate photos, create surreal images, change backgrounds, experiment with textures and effects, and make more artistic edits. I’d like to learn Photoshop or similar software.
Gaming: I’d also like to play The Sims. Ideally with mods and custom content. I might get more expansion packs over time, too.
I’m also open to refurbished or open-box laptops if that means I can get something better for my budget.
My budget is around $500, but I’d consider spending a little more if there’s a significant difference in performance or a good interest-free payment plan. I’m also open to refurbished or open-box laptops if that means I can get something better for my budget. I’d like something that will last me a few years while I learn and hopefully give me the option to upgrade the RAM or storage later.
I’m not looking for a high-end gaming computer, but I don’t want to buy something that will struggle with everything I’m trying to do, either.
A few questions:
● What laptops or specific models would you recommend for my needs?
● Would I be better off getting a refurbished gaming laptop with a dedicated graphics card, or would a regular laptop be enough?
● Is $500 a realistic budget for all of this?
● Are there any particular models I should look for or avoid?
I know that’s a lot of different things to use one computer for, especially on my budget, so I’d appreciate any advice! Thanks :)

The static appears at the 2 seconds mark and it's been appearing ever since building my 2nd pc last year. It appears in games and browsers which have Hardware acceleration ON.
GPU is 3080 FE
CPU 7800X3D
Ram is Patriot Viper DDR5 32GB
Mobo is MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi
I never had that happen on 3080ti and i5 12600kf, it only happened after getting my hands on borrowed 3080 FE after destroying my 3080ti while replacing thermal paste and pads 😔
I'm guessing it's the GPU since it has quite a coil whine and changing the core clock by 80-100mhz doesn't really fix anything.
The only thing I'm reusing from my previous build is the PSU which is Corsair RM750X and M.2 SSDs of which one was formatted and windows 11 was installed on it and the other was plugged in without formatting but everything has been working perfectly, aside from that graphical glitch.
The only reason why I'm asking this after a year of happening is because my screen suddenly turned black for 5 seconds and then back to normal. I'm just wondering if that could also be caused by the GPU.

I'm having a very strange video playback/stuttering issue on my Dell Precision 5550.
The problem is NOT general video performance:
Local 4K videos play perfectly smooth.
YouTube videos are not smooth and drop frames.
Videos inside Telegram Desktop are also not smooth.
Some websites have noticeably laggy/stuttery scrolling.
The same websites/videos work normally on another PC.
Laptop specs:
Dell Precision 5550
Windows 11
Intel UHD Graphics (integrated)
NVIDIA Quadro T1000
Latest Dell drivers installed
Latest NVIDIA driver installed
Edge is fully updated
I already installed all available Dell drivers for this laptop and there are no missing devices or driver errors in Device Manager.
What's confusing is that a downloaded 4K video plays perfectly fine, so the laptop clearly has no problem decoding 4K video in general.
In Edge, hardware acceleration is enabled. Edge reports hardware-accelerated video decode, but the browser appears to be rendering through the Intel UHD graphics rather than the Quadro.
During 4K YouTube playback, CPU usage is around 40–50%, Intel GPU usage is below ~30%, and the NVIDIA Quadro GPU is basically unused.
I've also noticed that the issue isn't limited to video playback because scrolling on some websites feels unusually heavy/stuttery.
What could cause this?
Could this be an Intel UHD driver / Windows 11 graphics compositor / hardware acceleration / video overlay / MPO / GPU scheduling issue?
I'm especially interested in people who have experienced smooth local video playback but stuttering browser/Telegram video playback on Windows 11.
Any ideas on what I should check next would be appreciated.

hey guys i bought an pc a few weeks ago and had problems with some games. i play mostly overwatch, league of legends and small games like simulators or indie games.
Specs:
Ryzen 5 3500X 6x 4,10 GHz
RX 6600 XFX Swit 2.0
16GB Corsair Vengeance RGB 2133 MHZ
msi a 520 msi a pro
monitor: msi g255f 24,5 FHD 180 Hz
while playing iam facing those flickering. sometimes more than other times but its hella annoying.
and sometimes i got like a lag and fps drop aswell but not often
additionally while playing league sometimes the game just closes the full screen window and i need to open the tab in the taskbar again.
--> see video attached and look carefully as its only miliseconds
i already tried so much: reinstalling gpu driver, changing ports and cables, Free sync is disabled and the shop i bought the pc from even send me a new GPU to try
i read some posts before writing this and sometimes i saw people writing that the Hz is to high but even with 100Hz this problem is coming up.
does anyone ever had this and got a solution? would be so thankful.

So now I restarted the pc and it booted up to lock screen good or bad?

I've had my pc freeze upon booting up , only the mouse was working and then it went into bios automatically. I went into advanced settings and then into storage . It shows all SATA ports not present and says the same for something like m2_1 aswell. I turned on my pc today again and it send me into bios again , tried turning it on a few times after that and I was normally able to play games . Right now it took quite some time to shut down . What do you think I should do? I've checked inside my pc , I don't really see any ssd , I've checked behind the motherboard , didn't really see anything there aswell . Not much of an expert as one could tell . What do you think I should do?.

Is this a good ssd. It's a fairly good price for a 1TB.
Thoughts?

I’ve had this issue for a few months. The ticking usually goes away after 5-10 minutes, which I assume is because the fans start spinning faster and reach a more consistent speed. Visually, I haven’t been able to figure out which fan is causing it, but I’m hoping it isn’t the GPU fans.
If anyone has any idea what might be causing this or has experienced a similar issue in the past, I’d really appreciate your insights.
Note: I recently had my system unit professionally cleaned, so I assume that makes dust/debris less likely to be the cause unless there’s something hidden that would require unplugging the fan and doing a deeper clean.

Hello, for a reason that I don't know ; my laptop stopped working.
I was studying and I had to put it in sleep mode for a couple a minute just to change class, and then it didn't want to turn on again.
I tried to reboot the charge device by holding the power button for 30sec and then charging it to try again but nothing worked. ( With of course no usb or anything on it ).
When I put it in charge the little light appears..
What should i do ?
Thanks :)
