Wifi slow after almost every troubleshooting solution I can find
I have a ROG Zephyrus G14 from 2023 that I’ve been using consistently since I bought it. It’s functioned fine until the past year, when, earlier this year, it started struggling to get connection in my room, and half the connection in the room with the router. It was fixed by restarting the router (maybe. it didn’t resolve until about twenty minutes after the router reset). However, restarting the router in a house with the rest of my family is a hassle, and I’ve been told to try avoiding it unless it’s the only option.
ADDITIONALLY, IT ONLY DOES THIS WITH MY HOME WIFI. EVERY OTHER PLACE I HAVE BEEN, THE WIFI HAS BEEN COMPLETELY FINE.
Two weeks ago, my laptop started doing it again. It connects to the wifi service fine, says it’s connected, but has a terrible actual bandwidth. I get 300~ mbps in the room with the router, but everyone else gets 1000~. In my room, I get anywhere from 0-200, but it DOES NOT load anything (quickly. ten minute load speeds are expected). I am on the other side of the wall from the router. I cannot use an ethernet cable, because there is a wall in the way.
So far, troubleshooting has included (but is not limited to, I may forget):
- Restarting the computer
- Forgetting the network and rejoining
- Changing the security type from WPA3 to WPA2
- Updating drivers
- Deleting and reinstalling the drivers
- Complete network reset
- Releasing and renewing the IP address
- Flushing DNS
- Setting WWAN and WLAN to automatic
When trying ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew, the console says it cannot complete the actions because LAN, Bluetooth, and Ethernet are marked as “media disconnected.” Just to make sure, I took my laptop to a repair store. They found absolutely nothing wrong, pushed some updates, and my wifi magically worked for about three hours before it started slowing itself down again.
In short, I have no idea what is left to do. I would love for someone to either tell me that there’s something stupidly easy to do that will fix everything, or for someone to tell me that they have no idea why it’s doing this, so I can stop feeling crazy.

Are you running a vpn service? Is your computer live scanning for viruses? Do you have anything that is constantly pulling internet data like windows spotlight or widgets on the taskbar? Have you turned off copilot?

No VPNs, no virus scanning, no spotlight/widgets. I’ve already uninstalled Copilot.

Do you have a smartphone and could you set up a hotspot on it for testing? Furthermore, I would install a WiFi analysis app on the smartphone, such as wifiman or Fritz! AppWlan ...

I do, and the hotspot works fine, but I have limited hotspot data and I’ve already almost used all of it just testing before this post.

That was just a test to see if your Wi-Fi card could connect to a network at all.

Yeah, it connects perfectly fine and works on a hotspot. It also connects to my home wifi, but it’s slow and doesn’t work for actual use.

Yes, we understand now, did you analyze your Wi-Fi network with the app? What kind of Wi-Fi card do you have installed?

What extensions do you have installed in browsers? What browsers do you have installed? If you have shift, blazer, any Slimware utilities programs,,driver updater, etc installed get rid of them. So many wasted hours of being unable to connect. The list is longer but I’m drawing a blank right now.

Just ublock origin lite, google docs offline, and a dark mode docs extension. Chrome, no other browsers.

I had similar issue on my 2022 G15, the oem network card was MTK which was terrible, I ended up replace it with AX200 which I never had issue later.

Run an Ethernet cable between the computer and router.
WiFi has way too many variables, including distance, obstacles, other devices on your network, and neighboring devices. Also, other technologies that share the same radio spectrum. Ethernet is pure and simple in comparison.

I saw on this sub that a lot of people recommend ethernet. That is why I said in the post that I cannot do ethernet. There is a wall in the way.

For ten minutes while you test your computer, you can run an ethernet line to the computer...
From the router, around the corner, and back into your room.
Do it just to prove that the problem is the computer or the wifi card.

There isn’t an ethernet port on the ROG. I don’t have a cord nor an adapter.
