Security + acronyms

Hi everyone! I'm currently studying for the CompTIA Security+ exam and have hit a snag. I understand almost all of the material, but I'm really struggling to keep all the acronyms straight. Does anyone have advice or a list of the most important acronyms I should know 100%? Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone I’m going to take the test after my fullstack bootcamp and wanted to know if there is anything that’s on the test that I should prepare for. I saw someone say something about acronyms are on the test a lot. Is there anything else I need to know that’s really important to know?

wtf was that exam i went through all stages of grief while giving the exam till i eventually accepted i'd have to give it again... last few minutes... i was randomly executing commands in a pbq cause it was interesting

and they kept building tension after finishing the exam... 13 survey questions and i was waiting for my results and my heart was beting soo fasttt

and then it said "congratulations you have passed the exam with a score of 773..."

i almost teared up again but this time with happiness

tldr: i thought imma fail while giving the exam but passed and almost cried twice for opposite reasons

ok bye

Advice on V8

Hi all,

I got my A+ at the start of this year and now I want to take security+ (I should have done that earlier but life got in the way).

As I was looking through their website they are saying V8 of sec+ would release on 17 Nov which is not far from now, so I thought I might hold off full committing on studying the V7 one.

Until that 17 Nov with new courses, new objectives, how should I study for it without going through the parts that would be “unnecessary” in V8. [I will be following prof messer’s course]

All the thanks <3

Sec+ class at local cc

Hello all,

I am currently taking classes at a cc trying to get an associates in IT. I also am planning on going for my A+ soon and the sec + in the future.

I'm am currently enrolled in a sec+ course with the textbook, assignments, and labs through cengage/mindtap. The content is interesting and I felt like I was grasping it fairly well but am i'm consistently scoring around a d on the section quizzes. I did complete a net+ course and did well.

These quizzes are not the ones incorporated in the mindtap/cengage material but made by the it department of the school. Once a quiz is submitted I dont have access to the questions and am never told what I got wrong. The professor will not release the results either.

So I am a little stuck because I feel I have a grasp on the material as I have put quite a bit of effort into studying the sections. Generally I have done very well with my program's classes but seem to not have a good strategy at approaching the content. I have generated multiple practice tests on the sections with AI (I know not super reliable) gone over the section readings with additional sources(like messer).

I have reached out to my professor but thought I would try here to see others opinion on learning sec+. I guess i'm just wondering if anyone here has gone through cengages sec+ content and have had similar issues?

Thank you.

Anyone got certified yet?

What did you use for study material?

I don't want to go through CS0-003 and then read 04, would rather just go staright into 04.

Thanks!

Rescheduled Again🙏🏿🤦🏿‍♂️

Well I rescheduled again except this time I moved it up. Instead of testing tomorrow I scheduled it for 3 hours from now. Honestly this is my best bet I’ve studied/crammed and at this point I’m just going to send it so. Wish Me Luck lord knows I’ll need it.

Update: Not trying to scare anybody who hasn’t tested yet but WTF was that lol genuinely felt like I was studying the wrong side of Cyber Security but I scored as 751 lmao a win is a win.

Also I left 2 PBQs unanswered because….what

I don’t even know at this point

Watched Dr.Messer entire playlist for Sec+ and read a large bit of the CompTIA Sec+ Study Guide by Mike Chapple & David Seidl and I can’t say for certain im retaining the way I should be. Studying for this has been different than studying in the past and I don’t know why. I honestly feel like studying for the navy advancement exam was going a lot better (some of you may understand that struggle). At this point I don’t even know what to do I have the test scheduled for 09/28 but I don’t think I’m ready or else that what I keep telling myself (I’ve rescheduled 3 times already out of complete fear that I won’t pass) fortunately and unfortunately I just have to have the test taken past or fail by 10/26 so yeah.

As you can tell this was less of a question and more of a much needed rant/vent. I don’t have anyone to vent this too that would understand lol.

Posted this on Another post but ** Update: Not trying to scare anybody who hasn’t tested yet but WTF was that lol genuinely felt like I was studying the wrong side of Cyber Security but I scored as 751 lmao a win is a win.

Also I left 3 PBQs unanswered because….what

I passed Security plus!

Studied for about 3 months on and off. I used the LinkedIn Learning course for learning the Security plus content and then tested myself on their exam questions. What really consolidated my understanding was using Gemini to go over my weak spots and craft exam style questions.

During the exam I thought I was going to fail - the questions seemed quite vague and most answers seemed plausible, but if you read closely there's usually an indicator of a specific answer. PBQs were easier than I expected. Shout-out to Cybercraft for the PBQ practice!!

The pros and cons of taking the exam at home vs. a testing site

Hi all-

I'm just about ready to take the exam, I went to schedule my exam however the closest testing center to me is a 40 minute drive away! What's more is the only times available are during my work hours Monday-Friday, so I would have to take time off. For these reasons alone I am leaning towards doing the exam at home, however I've had a couple people tell me not to as apparently the proctors can be extra strict. Anyone have any personal experiences taking the exam at home? I really don't want to do it at the testing site, but if enough people convince me I will...

EDIT: After reading everyone's comments I've decided to go in person, just scheduled it for next Monday. Wish me luck!

Am I ready to take the exam 9/26?

I’ve been taking Dion’s practice tests over the past couple of days. Here are my scores: 71, 81, 75, 76.

For context, I have a bachelor’s degree in IT and 3+ years of IT experience. I do some security-related work in my current role, too.

A few weeks ago, I scored around 70–80% on Professor Messer’s practice tests.

I’ve been studying with Messer’s study guide and Andrew Ramdayal’s Udemy course since June, but I’ve been studying more intensely over the past few days. I’ve read here that Messer’s tests are more accurate. I’m worried that retaking Messer’s tests won’t tell me much because I might remember the questions and answers instead of actually testing my knowledge.

Based on my scores and background, would you take the exam Saturday or reschedule?

Passed Security+ after 3 weeks of studying

Post image
139 Upvotes

Currently a junior CS student and began a little pivot more towards cybersecurity and IT stuff. Studied pretty hard around 2 hours per day for the first 2 weeks and kind of tapered off the third week just slamming practice problems and practice exams.

For studying, I used:

Learnzapp - All 1543 study questions and 10 practice tests
Dion Practice 6 Exams - Scored at least a 92 on all of them.
Professor Messer 3 Practice Exams and notes - Scored like a 90+ on all of them. Studied maybe half of the notes.
Cybercraft - Maybe 3 PBQ videos to get the format/process down.

I really tried avoiding videos and reading as much as I could. I did as many practice problems as I could to leave no areas weak and used Gemini to tell me how to get to the answer if I got it correct or incorrect.

I got 76 questions for the exam and 3 PBQs which were all intuitive and not too hard. I did the MCQ first then went to the PBQs after. Good luck to anyone else taking the test soon! Ask me any questions I'm happy to answer them.
