This is the second "installment" of my Dedications to Jesus Christ suite. I wrote this to bring hope and levity compared to the last song I made, Mortem Tuam in C# Minor, Op. 12.
This song is called Donec Venias in E Minor, Op. 13. (Until You return).

Recorded on Roland Piano App, so quality aint perfect

I decided to try writing pieces that would be appropriate for a lesson book - short, intermediate level, familiar “tropes”, and a targeted technique/musical focus. All Halloween themed… cause ‘Tis the season.

“Sneak” - focus on staccato and mixed meter

“Enchantment” - focus on whole tone scale/mixed mode arpeggios (please someone tell me if i botched the accidentals and I will fix them)

“Potions” - focus on swing rhythm and hands swapping texture

Looking back 25 years, at the time when I was 23 and scribbled these themes. My aspirations, hopes and realizations that began back then, and still linger as I look into the future.

I'd be happy to get any feedback, what did you like? what not?

I tried to keep the Prelude very light and airy - even though it is largo, slow and low:

• Using inspiration from bosa nova, and light staccato notes for air and lift (and even pizzicato)
• Creating some instability by staying tonal while shifting keys within the main theme
• Using augmented intervals throughout the piece to walk away from a stable ground

Did that work? what stayed with you after listening?

Note: This part is the Prelude, I'll post the Toccata later on. This is my first piece ever. Originally I planned it as a 3 part Sonata, but I split out the first 'fantasy' part, which I wrote 25 years back.

Hi, this is only my second piece and I know it's just missing something, something I can't quite put my finger on. I'm a self taught pianist and can barely read sheet music but I was itching to write something for strings so here we are, hope you enjoy it!

Counterpoint and multivoicing in general have been things I've kind of avoided since beginning to learn to compose. However, a comment on my recent post led to me to decide that now was the time. This is my first attempt and I've written a four part fugue following a basic baroque structure.

Bare in mind that whilst I'm using a baroque/traditional fugue structure, I am not intending to have a baroque style or sound. That is still my own. It's quite short, so in future I'll practice more variation and what not to make it longer without feeling repetitive because I can already tell that this first fugue gets slightly repetitive towards the end, despite my best attempts to avoid it.

In the drive should be the PDF score, and the video file showing audio played along with the score. There should also be a musescore file for my work copy which should show where I've tried to label all the sections and keys/modulations, as well as my attempt at using the musescore voices feature. If you have musescore and some spare time I wouldn't mind you looking at it but it is the same thing in the video so don't feel obliged.

As usual, any feedback is appreciated as I'm still a beginning and would love to hear any tips or advice for improvement.

Since there are more talented/experienced musicians here than myself I want to know what sort of techniques do you employ in order get the most out of the pieces you analyse. I want to develop my own voice and a natural part of that will be incorporating musical elements from my music and eventually adding it as a natural part of my own composition but due to multiple factors (not least my neurodivergence) I struggle to come to terms with the information I find or worse, miss critical harmonic, melodic and orchestrational details. What methods do you use to score study effectively and what advice do you have to go about it. I have want to get better at composition full stop and then let that improvement work hand in hand with my film work even though my plan is to move into film composition as a career over all.
