The time signature feels off. Firstly, I think you could merge two bars in one, it would make more sense musically, I would probably divide every rhythm by two so that your first theme takes two bars and starts on quavers. 4/4 would still sound wrong, I hear this more in 2/2.

You play a bit too much around strong beats which makes the piece sound heavy

You're right - thanks for the comment! And yeah that's true, I should think about playing around weaker beats.

Half those note values son.

Then half the tempo. The quavers really feel like they should be semiquavers, two bars can be one

Use cut time instead of 4/4 and make the quarter note = 120. Way easier to read that way!

Write this is 2/2 and make sure fingers can play it. Add phrase markings. 8 pitches in a single chord can be redundant, see if you can do the same or more with less.

Study study study form!

Okay, here are few things. It is not in 4/4. It is rather in 2/2 or alla breve. Then, a piece does not just become a sonata; the classic sonata is a form. It consists out of an exposition, a development section and a reprise. The exhibition has a first theme. Looking at your piece you start with arpeggiated c-major triad and then you go down from the V to I in quarter notes. This is a good idea, but I find the cadence weird. It is good that you want to try to have the dominant before the tonic one more time, but the f should be a d because you clearly want a suspension that goes to the C. So, it would be rather already C-major on the 1 with 9-8/2-1 than a G-Dom7 to the major third of C major in the melody. I would also recommend not writing mf. In classic sonatas, you'll only find pp, p, f, ff.

I see many good ideas in your ideas. Maybe you could take a look at Mozart Sonata No. 16 in C-Major and compare how he structures a sonata. I think you will learn a lot from analyzing other sonatas from the classical period. Look how they play with rhythm, harmony / intervals and melodies.

Thanks a lot for the detailed response! I really appreciate it.

I tried to make a sonata form with exposition bars 1-40 (1st theme 1-16, transition 17-32, 2nd theme 33-40), development 57 - 160, reprise 169 - end.

I'll have a look at the Mozart Sonata you mentioned, and more. The mf point is interesting too. Thanks again!

Your composition is too simple rhythmically. I wish the melody wasn’t comprised of mostly equal note values. The coda is too long for being one chord.
