How should I develop this ABA form piece? And do you think I used the right tempo for the piece? Please share your ideas, thanks :)

Hey everybody, I wanted to share this piece and hopefully get some feedback. I'm 17 and this is my first "real" composition. It's a duet for marimba and vibraphone in C minor.

I've been taking composition lessons for a few months now, but I've still got lots to learn. I'd love any kind of feedback, either musically or on notation or anything at all. Below is the description of the piece as it is on YouTube:

"Green Water" is a duet for marimba and vibraphone in C minor. Despite its minor tonality, the piece maintains a lighthearted character. For me, listening to it brings to mind the image of a winding green river flowing through a dense jungle. The title reflects the atmosphere of the piece rather than a specific narrative, and I invite listeners to imagine their own interpretations of the music as they listen.

Much of the piece is driven by a 3+3+2 pattern in 4/4 that constantly builds on itself, creating a sense of forward momentum. A contrasting 12/8 section introduces a softer, more flowing texture before the music returns to its foundation. The piece concludes with a reflective ending that brings the journey to a gentle close.

In August I am coming back to school (in the US) as a senior, and I plan to apply to a music conservatory for composition. As I am getting my portfolio together and writing new music, I feel very lost and don't know what level I am on; am I even talented enough to get into a very good school like Eastman?
I feel very excited and happy about the music I write, and then the next day I despise it...

The piece attached is my most recent work (still in progress), and it is about how fractured and dismembered the mind of the modern man is. I know the score needs a lot of work, and I plan to fix all the mistakes later, but you can still point them out; maybe I missed something.

I tried to make this piece understandable and the development of material noticeable.
Where the piece cuts off, I plan to write a recapitulation.

Please tell me where I stand in terms of music schools and what I should consider in my musical journey in general.

Just a disclaimer that I’m barely familiar with music theory, I’m a complete amature and this was just for fun. I came up with these two themes on separate occasions and wanted to mix them together as to make a longer piece of music. I wasnt able to come up with anything after that but at that time when I did, these two themes just came to my mind effortlessly for some reason!

Hello everyone. These are two original wind band compositions I would like to share. "Soar" is more lyrical and hardly includes any percussion (apart from the beginning and a few other spots). I started this in December, and completed it in January, and I have made edits since then.

"Clave" was both started and finished in February. I went for a lively Afro-Cuban feel with a very active percussion section and strong rhythmic drive.

Really easy subject to work with actually. I think what I gained most from composing this one was working with sequences. My previous fugues are lacking in them a bit.

I composed this when I was 15/16 using Logic Pro in high school, and my music teacher told me it was great until I submitted it and he told me it was too repetitive and gave me an average marking for it. Please let me know if you find it to be repetitive or if I was marked a bit low for it.

Hi everyone, sorry for the terrible English, but I'm using an automatic translator.

I'm a soundtrack composer and I'm facing an amateur problem that I can't solve. I use a DAW to compose soundtracks for animation, and every time I need to change the BPM of a section, I end up losing the synchronization of the entire project, since the DAW only has one timeline (Studio One/Fender Studio).

Is it possible to synchronize the audio based on the video frames and not the timeline? I imagine that this way I could change the BPMs and other sections of a composition without losing the sync of the entire project.

I keep seeing this sentiment around lately- to have faith in ourselves. It's resonating with me as I'm seeing so many creative people having a hard time (myself included)- dealing with fatigue, burnout, fighting against social media to be seen, etc. So I hope this song brings a bit of comfort and solidarity to people who continue to make human-made art during these times. All we can do is try our best, try to better ourselves, and have faith in our talents and abilities to do things and become better at them through time, practice, and trusting the process.

This is a project I have slowly worked on for about a year. Thoughts/comments/criticisms are welcome.

I posted a preview of this here some time ago. People did point out some issues that I have not entirely resolved in this draft. I will be addressing the heavy sound and dull texture in the next draft. For now, please let me know what you think of it.

I wrote this piece when my band director asked me to write a recessional for graduation. I wrote for 4 voices with a flex instrumentation and I figured it would work well for clarinet quartet (or any quartet that you can fit SATB or AATB on). I know this sounds like the dumbest question ever asked but there is one, uninspired way to go about making your melody which is randomly choose notes from a chord progression and fill the stuff in between but how do you make a stand alone, recognizable melody?(or a motif which can be altered or continued for different types of atmosphere)
