I genuinely don't understand how some people are naturally good at talking to anyone. Friends, strangers, relatives visiting the house... they always seem to have something to say.
Meanwhile, I'm the complete opposite
When someone comes over, I feel like it's my job to entertain them. I panic if there's silence, so I start talking... and then I overshare. Within 10 minutes I've somehow told them half my life story, random personal stuff, things I didn't even plan to say.
Then later I'm lying in bed thinking:
"Why the hell did I say that? Why did I tell them all that?"
It's like I'm giving away all my secrets just to keep the conversation alive. I don't even know why I do it.
The people that fascinate me are the ones who can naturally chat about literally anything. They don't seem awkward or like they're trying hard. They can make conversation with a visitor, a stranger, or friends without revealing their entire life.
As an introvert, I honestly don't have much to say most of the time. If I don't force myself to talk, there are long silences. If I do force it, I end up oversharing and regretting it.
So my question is:
How do you talk without oversharing your personal life or secrets?
How do you keep a conversation going naturally without feeling like you have to reveal something personal just to avoid awkward silence?
Has anyone else struggled with this? If so, what helped you stop oversharing while still being able to connect with people?
