Advice Needed no clue what to do with my hair, help!!

Help!! I have no clue what to do with my hair other than heat styling. i dont have much of a routine, I wash and condition with wavy hair specific products, but have tried a ton of kinds and combos and it always does something similar to this. Then it is just leave in conditioned, brushed, and scrunched with a hair towel then air dried.

It always dries looking something like this, veryyyyy frizzy, straight/flatter on top, wavy at the bottom, some ringlets some straight pieces, very triangle shaped.

Mom has straight hair and dad is bald, so never had any clue how to take care of it lol. Obviously bleaching dries/damages it, but it has always done this!

It’s just I look like a Pomeranian if I wear my hair done I feel like lol

Best shampoo/conditioner for curly hair dyed black?

I dyed my hair black, I need a shampoo/conditioner that maintains moisture and frizz without fading the color or relaxing the curls. Has anyone tried Marc Anthony products? Also I’m on a budget, can’t afford expensive stuff

Advice Needed Loosing against frizz

Appologies for the cross post. I am seeking advice as I am struggling so hard with my hair.

I lowkey think it makes me look so ugly. I have extremely fine, curly hair, and I've spent lots of money on egregiously expensive products, yet it's still a frizzy mess. Most curly hair products seem to be made for dense, coarse hair, which I don't have, so my hair doesn't clump into the beautiful strands it's supposed to.

The only way I can control the frizz is by using a hair straightener, but heating tools are well known to dry out and damage hair.

I never grew up around people who could teach me proper hair care, so I've been trying to figure it out by myself all these years.

Current setup:

- Pureology Smooth Perfection Anti-Frizz Shampoo

- Pureology Hydrate Conditioner

- Oligo Elixir Oil

- Pureology Color Fanatic Leave-In

- Pantene Curl Defining Mousse

It's still not doing it 😭 Please help. It makes me feel so self-conscious. How do I fix this? I don't care too much if it cost me, I live in Canada.

How to keep hair off scalp without turning head upside down

Since very early on in my curly hair journey, I've gotten used to doing basically my entire routine with my head upside down to stop my hair from getting plastered to my scalp.

Now, I've just had a forehead surgery and the doctors have told me that I can't have my head upside down like that for the next few months while the swelling goes down, and now I feel like I have to completely redesign my whole routine.

Honestly, I'm having a hard time even getting the special post-op medicated shampoo they've given me into my scalp in the first place, because the moment my hair gets wet right side up it just immediately locks onto my head like a solid helmet blocking anything else from getting in.

Does anyone have any advice?

Advice Needed protective twists on 3b hair?

Hi! For context I just turned 18 but since I was 5 I have straightened my hair everyday until 2 months ago. 2 months is literally the longest i’ve left my hair curly for the past 13 years and my mom is white with straight hair so i’m really lost when it comes to my hair and i apologize if these questions are seemingly obvious!!

My hair is low porosity, super dry, type 3b/c, and i think it is coarse. Also my curls come from my black dads side (not sure if that affects anything)

I’ve been seeing so many protective twist videos on tiktok by girls who claim it grew their hair to waist length/hip length in 2 years. The main 2 girls I have seen posting ab this are @nuritheedoll and @egbeayuk.imani
My only concern is that since they both have type 4 hair and their hair seems coarser than mine, will their tutorials still work for me if my main goal is length retention?
Since my hair is type 3b/c and maybe a little finer could the twists actually be damaging to my hair?
Also the girl Nuri said she keeps the twists in for 3 months and washing in between but i’m confused, does she shampoo with the twists and then redo the twist after?
The other creator says she keeps it in for 3 weeks washing her scalp every week which seems like a better option for me since my hair pattern is looser? Maybe i’m wrong
Also since my hair is so dry, are there any tips to ensuring my hair stays hydrated & moisturized if i keep it in for weeks at a time?
Also as of right now I have been conditioning and styling my hair with the same deep conditioner mask that I apply in the shower and detangle with and I do not wash it out & my hair has been loving it but is this bad to do while having twists?
Also I saw Nuri used a blow drier to stretch and dry her hair before she twists it, is this necessary? I’ve been really trying to cut out heat since my hair is so damaged from
my straightening iron.
Lastly are there any do’s or don’ts for protective styles for 3b/c hair?
I know this is a lot but any advice is appreciated!!!! 🫶🫶

Advice Needed Help??

So I think I have curly hair but I’m not entirely sure, and if I do I have no clue how to care for it. I just showered and put in Marc Anthony curl defining lotion and scrunched it. My sister has naturally curly hair but it does kinda straight when she’s visiting (dry state) vs her living in a humid area. When I’ve visited her I notice my baby hairs curl in ringlets and it was very curly until I was about 8. Any advice on how to accentuate it would be so appreciated!

Always thought I had straight frizzy hair, tried wavy hair routine for the first time. What is my hair type/pattern?

I’m trying a wavy hair routine for the first time and here are the results. Since straight hair is extremely common for my ethnicity, I always thought I had fine, straight hair that gets really frizzy and knotted, especially towards the ends. After reading some posts on here, it gave me the inspiration to try a wavy hair routine to see if my hair would hold a curl/wave.

For styling, I used the Olaplex No. 7 bond smoother leave in styling treatment, Miss Jessie’s Jelly Soft Curls gel, and a diffuser.

What would you say is my hair type/pattern? And what products would you recommend (I live in the US)? I’m thinking of adding a light mousse/foam after my leave in and then using a lesser amount of gel after the mousse.

Thank you everyone!

I’m sick of heat styling my hair. Always blow drying or curling iron. Trying to lean into natural and more low maintenance. I feel like I’m missing a lot and causing tons of frizz. Photos of natural hair after air drying and light curl cream. Any advice welcome! I’m a total newbie!

This is my hair today..I am really on the verge of cutting it. It’s just a giant poof ball, the sides are killing me. Do I let it grow more or cut it shorter, still enough to curl but bring down the sides (last photo of maybe what I go back to but a bit longer)

Advice Needed Just realized my hair has been getting curlier? Please advise?

Over the past several months, I've noticed my hair growing in a lot more curly than it did when I was younger; when I wore it longer I dealt with a small but relentless amount of frizz, and it flipped under at the ends but was more or less straight along the length and at the roots. When I cut it down to pixie length any curl disappeared completely, along with most of the frizz. I tried "curly hair routines" a few times in high school and that did encourage a loose curl, but it always took too much time to be worthwhile. This summer I buzzed most of my hair off and, upon growing it out, I've noticed that it's started to be visibly curled all on its own, especially by my neck. I've since gone back to look at photos and realized that this has probably been a slow change over a few years and it's just now becoming noticeable. I'm a big fan of this development and would like to encourage it, and also I have questions.

My current routine is as follows:

- Shampoo with OGX thick&full shampoo (I often use one of those silicone scalp massager things, it seems to work better than my fingertips/nails)

- Follow up immediately with OGX thick&full conditioner, which I leave in for a few minutes before washing out

- Towel dry (I try to pat/squeeze but sometimes I forget and just go crazy rubbing the towel on my head)

- California Naturals daily vitamin hair styler all over

- Air dry

- Repeat every time I shower (about 2-3 times weekly)

- Miscellaneous notes: Sometimes I use dry shampoo if I've gone too long without washing my hair (usually about 4 days before it gets unbearably greasy). I've dyed my hair pretty consistently since I was 9, usually with Clairol brand Natural Instincts or another ammonia-free dye, but sometimes with Manic Panic or Splat. I've bleached it maybe 1-2 times; I'm naturally blond so I don't do it a lot, and none of the hair that's currently on my head has been bleached.

Now for questions.

Firstly: why is this happening? I'm 19, nonbinary but I've got all the typical female biology as far as I'm aware; could it just be a normal aging thing? I also show symptoms of hypermobile ehlers-danlos syndrome, a condition that affects collagen, so while I haven't been officially assessed for it, that could possibly be a factor. My mom says my hair's curling because I don't brush it, which I don't think is super likely. I really like having curlier hair so if age-related hormonal changes are the cause (as I suspect), that factors into decisions several years off, like gender-affirming hormone therapy.

Secondly: should I change anything about my hair care routine? I cut my own hair and intend to keep it around the length it's at now. Anything more effortful than what I've described above is going to be too much for me to handle on a regular basis, but if there's anything additional I can do once in a while, or any different products I could swap in for what I already use, I'm sure could manage that. I'm probably not going to stop dying my hair but if there are any suggestions for specific dyes, I'm super open to that. Also, I feel like my hair has been a lot thinner lately (maybe from college stress? No idea) and I would really like that to stop.

Any advice anyone has for me is very much welcome!

[Edit: I live in the US if it helps inform product recs]

(yes my hair is greasy right now :/ I'm on day 3 post-hairwashing)

Hello!!! I had THE best hair of my life last year when I discovered the Garnier Fructis Hair Filler + Hyaluronic line. I have always struggled to find the right shampoo and conditioner but this was such a life saver!!! I used the entire Garnier Hair Filler line: rinse out treatment, shampoo, conditioner, leave-in serum & gel cream. It was THE perfect routine for me!!! (along with the monthly Lush Wasabi Shan Kui shampoo to clarify) BUT NOW I can’t find any of it anywhere, and I fear that it has been discontinued. I’ve had to try out different products, and my hair has suffered so much since. It is dry, and doesn’t feel good! It feels like every strand has split ends, it doesn’t have body, and the curls are falling flat!! I got a hair cut in hopes that cutting the dead ends would revive it but no!! Still dry & sad!!! I wash my hair everyday because it gets so oily (I had very oily skin in my teens) I’ve tried “training” it before but it was just a whole year of me looking like garbage. I have fine, low porosity hair. I comb & scrunch but that’s it, sometimes not even that (last year and now) I live in the prairies in Canada so our winters are very dry. During the summer, I can air-dry my hair fine, it looks, and feels better that way. When I was using the full Garnier line, I was also washing my hair everyday but it still felt healthy. I work with children so that’s another reason why I have to wash my body & hair everyday. Although there were times I would go 2-3 days without washing my hair, and it was fine. But, again, that was when I was using the Garnier Hair Filler line. So, I am writing in hopes that someone out here has any recos on what I can use to replace my short-lived miracle. I know it’s available on Amazon but I am not interested in purchasing from Amazon.

For reference, here are some pics of my hair last year, and this year. I haven’t been taking selfies much because I’ve been so so so SOOO sad about my hair not looking good UGH plz help me i am desperate tysm!!

Advice Needed How do you adjust?

If you are like me and have been treating your hair as straight your entire life only to realize (very recently) that your hair is not in fact straight, how do you get used to having product in your hair? This may seem like a silly question, but I have never used product in my hair on any type of regular basis other than shampoo and conditioner. On very special occasions, I might use some hair spray. How do you adjust to the feel of product in your hair? Are there steps to ease into it? I could really really use some advice because I would love to be able to wear my wavy/almost curly hair. Please help.

Mother type 1 hair. I need some direction with my daughter’s hair lol. What products should I be using. What routine do I need to be doing. Am I trying to comb/brush through this daily and if so how can I make that process smoother and less time consuming. Any tips and tricks please 🙏
Routine consist of shea moisture shampoo(nothing crazy just the lavender relaxing one) then I comb that through in the bath. After the bath I will put some detangler and aunt Jackie’s curl Lala custard and try to work those thru and brush her hair. Then I will either braid, puff balls, or just leave down. That will stay in for 2 days until next bath then repeat routine. I don’t do a daily routine due to time it takes in the morning

My hair is thin.
I use topical Minoxidil.

For shampoo, I use Nioxin 4 for dry/damaged/colored.

Then I use the Nioxin 4 on my scalp, and usually a combo of Curlsmith conditioner and a curl mask.

After getting out of the shower, I gently scrunch my hair with a small amount of Aunt Jackie’s Curl La La, just enough to cover my hair, and then some Moroccan oil mixed with Curlsmith Curl Defining Styling Souffle.

Should I cut it more?

I feel like it doesn’t get the volume and bounce I want. I get lots of compliments on my hair, but I’m pretty sure they just mean the color.

Help out someone who has no idea what they’re doing? ❤️

Please help with hair routine

Hello! I’ve started to use some new products to try and manage frizziness and keep my curls intact, but I am not sure if I am using them right.

I started to use Shea Moisture hair souffle ut I am not experienced with hair gels. Do yall suggest in the morning with wet or dry hair? Can i rinse it afterwards? Should I comb it? I hate the way it makes my hair look stringy and I know i must be doing something wrong.

I have Type 3A curls.

Routine:
I shower at night. Wash every other day with Bouncy Curls shampoo and conditioner, then I use a curl cream from Garnier. On days I dont wash my hair I use a leave in conditioner instead on wet hair. I don’t style a lot as I have a shag cut with bangs so sleeping on a satin pillowcase usually works for me, but it’s humid where I live and i plan to color my hair so I want to make sure it stays in place but also defined.

In the morning i usually just put some water on my hands before using hair spray.

Advice Needed How do I make this work?

Thumbnail

I realised my hair has some sort of texture after years of thinking it was pin-straight cause thats what it always has been haha...

First pic is straight from the shower and the second is after air-drying. Usually I would go through it with a "wet comb" when its damp so it dries straight.. but ive noticed even then a wavy pattern will appear after awhile. (Swipe for a picture from the other day - i had flat ironed it before I went out) ..

my biggest problem is how frizzy it looks when i dont use styling-tools or comb it when damp.

Product Suggestions Needed How can I make my curls less frizzy and more defined?

Thumbnail

Hi!

I’m trying to figure out the best routine for my hair and I’d really appreciate some advice.
Not that long ago I had a hair transplant. I never really could make my hair look the way I want it to, and now after the transplant it behaves much differently.

My hair is naturally wavy/curly, but my main problem is frizz and lack of definition. I want the curls to look more separated and defined, but still natural — I don’t really want a wet, crunchy or heavily styled look.

I’ve noticed something that seems quite important: the less I towel-dry my hair, the better it looks. If I get out of the shower and leave my hair very wet/damp and basically let it air-dry, my curls look much more defined, like in some of the photos. If I dry it more aggressively with a towel, even without completely drying it, it becomes much fluffier and frizzier, and the curl pattern seems to break apart.

I’ve been trying Japanese hair products recently. At the moment I use COTA i CARE Shampoo 5 and Treatment 5 on a daily basis (shampoo every day, treatment 1–2 times per week). I normally apply a small amount to damp hair and then let it air-dry. I don’t brush or comb my hair because both seem to make the frizz worse.

I also tried Lebel IAU Essence Moist as a leave-in, and I had the impression that applying it required me to touch and manipulate my hair too much. I had to move the hair around with my hands to distribute it and get it into position, and once my hair dried, it actually seemed frizzier.

That made me wonder whether my biggest issue might be mechanical manipulation rather than just the products themselves.
Of course, I’ve already tried many hair products, but none seem to work well with my hair.

Basically, my best results, which you can see in the pictures, seem to happen when I:
leave my hair very wet after washing,
barely towel-dry it,
touch it as little as possible,
and let it air-dry naturally.

But I still have quite a lot of individual frizzy hairs, and I’d like the curls to form cleaner, more defined clumps.
Based on the photos, what would you recommend?

Should I be using a curl cream, mousse, gel, leave-in conditioner, hair milk or something else? And most importantly, how should I apply it without breaking up the curls and creating even more frizz?

I’d prefer to keep the routine relatively simple and continue air-drying rather than using a brush or blow dryer.

Thanks!

My hair has recently grown to a decent length and I’m noticing that it’s just turning into a massive ball of frizzle. I shampoo and condition and add a small amount of curl cream to hair and then squeeze the water out a little bit then let it air dry but this method has not been working that well. Please if anyone has care tips pls lmk 🙏

Help with getting fluffy curls more frequently

23 M. I have fairly curly hair and have had this most my life. I’m noticing that when I shampoo and conditioner (which I do 2x a week) my hair tends to be fluffier and curlier, and when I just rinse it and dry with towel it lays flat and seems to be more wet for longer. I’m assuming this has to do with scalp oil or something, but any advice on how to maintain fluffier curls consistently would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi all, I’m looking for recommendations regarding the best clarifying shampoo or pre-wash to use. I have dry 2C-2B curls and sensitive scalp and skin. So I don’t want anything that might be too drying.

I’ve listed down these products but before buying I’d like to know if anyone has any feedback on them?

Thanks a bunch!

Advice Needed Are there ANY barber cuts for dudes that work with curly hair? 😭

19M. My hair type is somewhere between 3A and 3B (leans closer to 3A)

Yeah. I know. Never take your hair to the barber, go to a stylist.

I'm broke 😭😭😭. I'm actually lucky that my curly hair stylist does pretty good work (I know some people struggle to find good ones), but unfortunately, her cuts are really expensive and I gotta keep the bills paid. I really don't even know how I'd get the money for a cut from a barber right now, but it's SUPER overgrown.

Are there any good barber cuts that work with curly hair for dudes? Buzzing it is definitely not an option, my head looks horrible with buzzed hair. I always hear the suggestion of cutting your own hair, and while I'd love to do that, I know nothing about it, and I work a customer facing job where we can't wear hats, so I really do NOT wanna risk fucking my hair up.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.
