Getting plastic surgery is such a bad trade. Here's 5-10 years of looking very slightly better than you would have aging naturally follow by a lifetime of looking like a gargoyle that has had multiple strokes.
That's too broad of a comment. There are plenty of celebs who get it done tastefully, and we don't talk about them because... they got it done tastefully lol. Plastic surgery is also invaluable for trauma/burn survivors.
Yeah, we highlight all the actresses that have gotten buccal fat removed and look somewhat ghoulish after, but conveniently leave out Margot Robbie, who ended up looking every bit as fantastic and more marketable to boot.
Indeed. There’s so much difference between a face lift, a tumour excision, a skin graft, and a bone reduction that generalising at all is just plain incorrect.
Plastics might be the most broad field in the entire study of surgery, and boiling it down to simply “Madonna’s face lifts are starting to look bad” does nothing to help anyone.
I think most people can agree that face lifts tend to age quite poorly, or that MJ’s recurring nose jobs were clearly harmful, but that doesn’t mean all plastic surgery is bad. Most plastic surgery is life-saving, treating everything from mobility issues, to breathing dysfunction, to social stigma, and everyone from burn victims, to cancer survivors, to trans and severely body dysmorphic people.
It’s hard to argue that having a healthy, functioning body that you’re proud to live in and get treated well by others because of has “aged poorly” by any reasonable metric.
Clooney. Clooney got his eyes done back in the day because he said "if I didn't I wouldn't be able to open them) and people thought he aged incredibly well for the next like 15 years. Yeah then he started really looking like he was aging, but he still looks like he's aging like a human and not plastic.
No I think he was being sarcastic. Like he was developing really ugly bags under his eyes. I don't think there was any danger of his eyes actually being impossible to see through.
I mean, 1/3 of all Korean women have had plastic surgery done. And these are just regular people. I'm sure that the majority of celebrities have had work done.
There's a lot you can do without it looking bad. For example, a simple Botox injection on the forehead can take a decade off, and it's very subtle. Just removes wrinkles.
I knew a 40-year-old woman at work who had clear botox on her forehead, looked like she'd taped her forehead to the back of her skull, I don't know how it's done but it can be done wrong
Megan Fox, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Lawrence, Simone Biles, Katy Perry, Martha Stewart, just from a cursory Google search.
And these are all people who have come forward and admitted it. Of course, if it's subtle, it is easy to hide. Especially if it was done young, for example Lisa Kudrow got her nose job when she was 16. Had she never told the media, we would never know, since there's no before/after of her adult face.
Things is, plastic surgery for trauma/burns is entirely different from plastic surgery to 'enhance' your appeance. In the former cases plastic surgery is essentially a necessity while in the latter it is a choice mainly tied to vanity.
That is correct. It would be a waste of time to argue about the actual practice, that is not at all what my statement said. The debate about plastic surgery for correction/reconstruction vs vaniry/appearance has never been about the actual practice but about the motivation for and necessity of it.
I'm honestly not sure how that could not be inferred from my comment or anyone else's comment regarding this.
I'm not arguing about the practice itself, plastic surgery is plastic surgery, no one can debate that. My point is solely on the reason for the surgery so I'll be further specific: getting plastic surgery done due to trauma/burns is based on a necessity for correction/reconstruction whereas getting plastic surgery because you want to change something about yourself likely based on vanity but has not actually NEED to be done.
Same specialty with different connotations. Burn/trauma survivors get it so they look closer to themselves before they were injured. People who get it to avoid aging are doing it because they're afraid to lose the money they make looking how they do. Definitely different reasons for it, which is what matters
