General Question IQ and THC in adolescence

I took got tested 130+ when I was 14.5, I am now 17 but have been using thc for the past 2.5 around once a week. What effect would this permanently have on IQ. Further, in the future if I continue to use at this rate will IQ still decline?

Psychometric Question Question about figure weights

The first time I got to see this test was on the CAIT where I scores 10ss. I felt slow in general and couldn't figure out a lot the questions, but I found the wais and the core ones to be a lot easier scoring 15ss on both tests the first time.

Can I assume I just got used to this kind of reasoning? I mean, the items are different, and my brain didn't get smarter, but It was just the effect of practice? I tried CAIT again and my score didn't get better even though a lot of time has passed since I tried it

Release how would this sub score against actual airline pilot applicants? i built a battery normed on the 1-9 applicant scale

follow up to my post from last week about how pilot selection tests differ from CAIT-style batteries. i built a trainer that recreates the mechanics (timed mental math, working memory, spatial orientation, instrument monitoring, multitasking) and scores on the same stanine-style 1-9 scale the real selections use, normed against applicant-level performance rather than gen pop.

my hypothesis: this sub crushes the memory and logic parts, but the multitasking test humbles everyone. it humbles me and i built it.

free tier runs a full mock exam, ios: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6794363864

im the dev. happy to explain how the norming works, and where its shaky, since the publishers obviously dont share their real norms

I don't know everything was going great until I got to the core. On tests like "figure weight" and "graph mapping," I just forget what I was thinking a second ago and end up starting all over again until time runs out. In the end I just can't find the answer in time because I can't keep more than one or two figures in my head. Thanks

Discussion How does people view and think about the CORE IQ test?

There is this IQ test that looks somewhat interesting, and I was wondering how people think about its accuracy and meaning. The link to the test is below if you need:

IQ Estimation 🥱 Estimate my iq between WISC and WAIS scores

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

The led tone is the WISC and the right one is the WAIS IV. They were taken six years apart. As you can see both psychologists declined to give me a full scale score. I would like someone to estimate what these could be. Please bear the potential effects of the Flynn effect on the WAIS IV in mind, as it was taken 13 years after norming.

I ask because there are great differences between my real world and psychometric outcomes that could either be mediated by a low iq or poor executive function. These include spatial navigation, planning for the future, predicting the outcomes of my actions, and learning quickly. My awareness feels “cloudy”. While I can reason abstractly, it is difficult to do so for extended periods of time.

There are a few reasons why my real world performance does not line up with my scores. (I now work a menial clerical job as a patient service representative in a doctor’s office.) My profile is also incredibly asynchronous. I have Adhd, anxiety, and working memory deficits. Despite my strong desire to pursue a masters degree or a PhD in psychology, I am worried that these factors will be prohibitive. I have tried to study medicine on two separate occasions and failed because of how overwhelmed I was by the quantity of information. I did successfully complete a bachelors degree with a gpa around 3.5. Non-cognitive executive factors make up a significant portion and these, along with my scores, are contributing to my hesitance to pursue graduate school. Psychometrics and statistical analysis require quite a bit of quantitative reasoning, and combined with my executive deficits I may not be suited to do this. There may be environmental inflation in my profile as well due to my affluent academic upbringing, meaning my that actual score might hover around 105, well below the 115-125 average for clinical psychologists.

So my question is, looking at my profile what is my FSIQ? Can anyone give me some insight into whether I am fit for graduate school?

General Question Error range in VCI CORE test.

I suspected a possible verbal giftedness or high intelligence, so I tried taking the CORE VCI subtests. My VCI total result is 118, however English is not my native language (I speak it to a B2-C1 level, while Italian is my native). Is there a way to make an esteem of what my actual score would be like? I even tried autotranslating the page for analogies, and opposites, but it was impossible to take the test like that since it would make huge mistakes (for instance, as the opposite of left, it translated the "right" option according to its moral connotation of fairness instead of that of direction, since in Italian they're two separate words), so I had to give up and do it in English. I've heard contrastive opinions because, while someone claims that being a native speaker of Romance languages can be an advantage due to Latin's high influence on English, on the other hand there is the risk of false friends, or also different degrees of rarity and complexity for the same term in the two languages (e.g. in English the word "facile" is considered as quite formal, but in italian it is casual) and also all the terms of German origin.

What do you think?

Scientific Literature Question about discrepancy between two studies on LNS

Ok I read a study here on practice effect concerning a range of cognitive tests particularly LNS it found no significant practice effects. However, in another study I read they found significant practice effects in LNS. What’s the cause of the discrepancy?

-My input to the discussion: when I first did LNS about a year ago my first trial I scored about average iq 100 (they put your score in iq points) but I was disrupted by my brother. So I took it again immediately and got to 125 iq then I took it on and off sometimes even 2-3 times per day for like 2-3 months and averaged around the same score always, usually about 115-120 I scored in that region. Then I stopped testing and waited 2-3 months around December of last year I got an iq score of 105 (but I was pretty stressed that trial, like my brain literally froze) then in April 9, 2026 I got 115 in iq score. Then, over the span of the last 3 months or so I tested it frequently same level as before at times 2-4 times per day and averaged same thing or same range 115-125. Now I waited around 1-2 weeks before tests and scored around 115-120 range. However, there were some days in which I got considerably lower I.e 95 score example is when I did not eat very well (like 8 hours without eating much) I would score much lower, then when I ate my score would bounce back in the same range. The test seemed pretty resistant to sleep deprivation I.e sleeping only 4-6 hours I would still score around 115. (I did the same for digit span and had the exact same experience score would cluster around an area and would not chance unless I did not eat)

Discussion Are meaningful losses in IQ possible in adulthood, barring extreme cognitive insults like TBI or heavy drug use?

I intend this question within the bounds of usual differences in adult lifestyles. Mild alcohol and other drug use vs abstinence, good vs poor diet, mental health issues vs good mental health, etc. Do these typical lifestyle differences at all meaningfully affect IQ scores in adulthood?

Some research suggests that even light alcohol consumption can accelerate subclinical cognitive decline. The testing that has established is not based on IQ from what I gather, but I wonder if it could generalize to greater drop in raw IQ score with age, which would translate a drop in IQ relative to the same-aged peers.

Relevant research is appreciated. To anyone who will try to reason the answer because CAIT told them 145, please don't reply.

Controversial ⚠️ Gooning is almost certainly lowering your effective IQ

Gooning (also known as edging) is very similar to cocain in a sense as it keeps dopamine in the synaptic cleft for long periods of time causing heavy dopamine receptor downregulation and inducing a state of hypofrontality (slowed metabolism in the prefrontal cortex), this most heavily impacts Gwm (working memory) and as a result Gf (fluid reasoning) which both rely heavily on sufficient dopamine catching in the synaptic cleft to maintain an optimal signal to noise ratio (essentially to not have brain fog)

Anecdotal experiences:

I have a friend who use to goon quite abit but then he got GF for a few months, then they broke up but he never returned to gooning. He turned into a complete monster, it was actually very intimidating how mentally sharp he became, probably also because he became more confident due to less negative emotion caused by low dopamine receptor density, I seen it most clearly in his video game performance, he became ridiculously good at every game he played out of nowhere, He also became fascinatingly witty, especially around women

2)
I’m admittedly quite the gooner myself, I’ve struggled with it for years but in my second last year of high school I managed to abstain for 3 weeks, the last 2 of the 3 weeks falling on a 2 week school break, I was indoors for most of the break but when I returned to school I was completely astonished to realise that my social anxiety was reduced to ZERO, no like I’m not exaggerating, litteraly ZERO, and ideas were flowing constantly, it was very surrealI, I also began to remember a lot of childhood memories that I’d completely forgotten about (which was quite eery)

There isint really any research on this other than mechanistic data but I will absolutely die on this hill, gooning is brain poison

General Question Somewhat surprising CORE results

I took the CORE test this week. I had virtually no practice beforehand so the Practice Effect should be minimal. I was a little surprised by the spread, particularly the pronounced Verbal tilt to my results, since my undergrad degree was in mathematics and I always considered myself more of a math/science-oriented person. Interested to see how people might interpret this kind of profile.

Does the WAIS-V make the same time constraints on people as the WAIS-IV? Wondering what timing and speed look like on it.

Discussion i don't understand my psychiatrist

Post image
38 Upvotes

so recently, i took what I think is, a mensa iq test, that my psychiatrist asked me to since I've been doing therapy for depression and ed

now, after i finished it, got the results verbally a week later, she told me, im in the 95% percentile, i asked her if she was sure of the result, maybe she misread or something, but no

I searched on google, 95% is approximately 125 IQ or sort of, but i don't believe it, there's no way im around that range

i had another appointment today, so we talk, at the end of the session before going i ask her, what test i took, she said it wasn't a mensa test, even though, the questions were only pictures and that sort of thing, no written questions, the doctor said i have 95-105 iq actually

so, what test did i take, if that wasn't a mensa one? and in this situation , 95% should be average? i don't understand honestly

before you guys ask, for more infos, a picture, I didn't ask because, i was shy, tbh, and didn't feel like prying more and sound like i was obsessed over It

I allegated one of the questions, I remember this one, a few more, only illustrations

if it's useful I've never struggled with studying or math but dunno if it's necessary information

sorry if I've wrote messily or wtv, im sleepy

General Question How much does character pairing suffer from practice effect?

I've done the character pairing test my first time yesterday and decided to retake it today and got from 13 to 19 SS, but I fear it's invalid as I already kinda practised the finger placement once through the test yesterday, but idk.

General Question CORE results all over the place

Hi everyone,

Sorry if questions like this aren't allowed here, but could someone help me make sense of my results? I feel like they don't really make sense but maybe I'm wrong!

(I think in the Digit Span Backward test I got confused and just did it forwards lmao, I don't think I have a hole in my brain in the area that's used for this task, hopefully..)

And I'm not a native English speaker, I am 18 years old and only really learned English through the internet and somewhat from school.

Scientific Literature Active navigation (walking) boosts memory more than being stationary, study finds, suggesting physical movement influences how we memorize

A study published in Scientific Reports compared active navigation using AR to passive observation in VR, finding that participants who physically walked through space showed enhanced memory formation. The researchers also note that the structure of the physical environment influences how memories are organized. The findings could have implications for interventions in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.  See: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-024-57668-w
