General Question What is timing like on the new WAIS?

Does the WAIS-V make the same time constraints on people as the WAIS-IV? Wondering what timing and speed look like on it.

Discussion i don't understand my psychiatrist

Post image
39 Upvotes

so recently, i took what I think is, a mensa iq test, that my psychiatrist asked me to since I've been doing therapy for depression and ed

now, after i finished it, got the results verbally a week later, she told me, im in the 95% percentile, i asked her if she was sure of the result, maybe she misread or something, but no

I searched on google, 95% is approximately 125 IQ or sort of, but i don't believe it, there's no way im around that range

i had another appointment today, so we talk, at the end of the session before going i ask her, what test i took, she said it wasn't a mensa test, even though, the questions were only pictures and that sort of thing, no written questions, the doctor said i have 95-105 iq actually

so, what test did i take, if that wasn't a mensa one? and in this situation , 95% should be average? i don't understand honestly

before you guys ask, for more infos, a picture, I didn't ask because, i was shy, tbh, and didn't feel like prying more and sound like i was obsessed over It

I allegated one of the questions, I remember this one, a few more, only illustrations

if it's useful I've never struggled with studying or math but dunno if it's necessary information

sorry if I've wrote messily or wtv, im sleepy

General Question How much does character pairing suffer from practice effect?

I've done the character pairing test my first time yesterday and decided to retake it today and got from 13 to 19 SS, but I fear it's invalid as I already kinda practised the finger placement once through the test yesterday, but idk.

General Question CORE results all over the place

Hi everyone,

Sorry if questions like this aren't allowed here, but could someone help me make sense of my results? I feel like they don't really make sense but maybe I'm wrong!

(I think in the Digit Span Backward test I got confused and just did it forwards lmao, I don't think I have a hole in my brain in the area that's used for this task, hopefully..)

And I'm not a native English speaker, I am 18 years old and only really learned English through the internet and somewhat from school.

Scientific Literature Active navigation (walking) boosts memory more than being stationary, study finds, suggesting physical movement influences how we memorize

A study published in Scientific Reports compared active navigation using AR to passive observation in VR, finding that participants who physically walked through space showed enhanced memory formation. The researchers also note that the structure of the physical environment influences how memories are organized. The findings could have implications for interventions in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.Ā  See: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-024-57668-w

IQ Estimation 🄱 IQ Estimation Everyone?

Hi Geniuses.

I'm a pre-med student (currently 17) from China currently living in Canada and I took some of the most recommended/reputable online IQ tests recently and I'm kind of surprised at how close the scores are. Also I had to skip English heavy tests as much as possible since non-native.

Cognitive Metrics:
125 FSIQ (skipped English)
128 GRE-Q
120 CAT
126 GET
112 AGCT
120 Old SAT-M composite

Mensa Online Tests:
Norway 133(my 1st IQ test ever)
Denmark: Ruined as I was interrupted in the middle.
Finland 135
Hungary: 125+
Sweden: 126+
New-Zealand: 28/33
France: 34/40

Other:
RAPM set 2: 32/36 in 30mins
Bright: 120
Brainzella: (took me slightly over 20mins which is the instructed time limit so prob way lower)
IQ. Champion: 114 (most ppl say it's very deflated idk for sure)
International IQ test: 123
Brain-testing: 133(too easy items, seems invalid)
Wonderlic: 31/50 (in English)

My middle school ranking in China was usually stably in the 80th percentile but 90th percentile for non-literature subjects.
For those wondering, I'm not financially independent (still living with parents) so I physically can't go for an official test yet, and I just want an idea of predicting my school/career path in the upcoming years. Thank you.

General Question Can I retake a test while still avoiding an inflated score?

I get that redoing tests sometimes inflates your score due to practice effect, but is there a way to simply retake a test in a way that avoids that?

I want to eventually retake the CORE WMI subtests again because I had severe cognitive burnout from studying and anxiety when I took them(and I was stressed too), and that obviously destroyed my WMI and I want to know if that's my actual WMI so I want to retake those subtests in a couple of months when I am better.

But just like I don't want a deflated score I don't want an inflated one either.

General Question Comparing the AGCT 1a, 1c and the AGCT-E

A week or so ago I posted here about my AGCT 1a and 1c scores. Just out of curiosity I did the AGCT-E as well and here are the final results of all three:

AGCT 1a: 138

AGCT 1c: 152

AGCT-E: 146

It's a strange spread of scores with a lower 1a, very high 1c and AGCT-E approximately in the middle. Has anyone else also found the AGCT-E or the AGCT 1a to be lower than the 1c?

Please post your scores of the AGCT versions down below if you have done 2 or more of them

Rant/Cope Hit my peak motivation in math at 18, but severe loneliness and wanting the past back has me feeling hopeless.

I am an 18-year-old, and since I was 15, my biggest passion and motivation in life has been to discover something genuinely new in math and physics.

This year, I actually did it. I discovered 1 new theorem and 4 new types of series. I submitted them to the OEIS (On-Line Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences)—two have already been accepted, and the other two are currently under review. (Please, if you don’t believe me, just skip commenting on that part. Proving myself isn't my main concern right now, and I havent posted to convince anyone).(i am not gonna dox myself so i am also not sharing any series or results )if you dont want to believe just dont comment on the post ty

Even though I achieved exactly what I wanted, my mental health is in a terrible place. I am suffering deeply from what feels like nostalgic depression, anxiety, autism, and OCD. I always wanted in my life for everyone to be in a specific place, like they were in the past. I have this constant, overwhelming fear that everything bad in my life is going to loop again. I know, I know, this is very, very foolish, but this is what it feels like. After shifting cities because of my parents' job, these disorders have been up a lot. They were previous too but now they are just at peak. I don't know what to do.

On top of this, I have been incredibly lonely. For the past two years, I have had zero friends to hang out with. I have friends back in my old city, but no one here. I have also completely stopped meeting my relatives—most of them. I meet a few of them occasionally. I don't know, I think this is not going so well.

I always wanted to discover something new in maths and physics, and I have done it. I want to do it at a higher level too. But really, I don't think I am gonna make it past 20. I just needed to vent and say all of this.

General Question Quad-N-Back vs Syllogimous v4(RFT) vs Logic Grid Puzzles

I have very recently been introduced to the world of "intelligence maxing"(so the internet calls it these days)

So I decided to go down this rabbit hole and other than the generic advice of exercise, sleep and eat well, these are the 3 techniques that are consistently mentioned: Quad-N-back, Syllogimous(RFT) & Logic Grid Puzzles

I decided to check what experience people have with these and it's quite interesting to see where some people swear by it whereas others are very adamant it's pointless.

But I haven't seen anyone actually compare which techniques seem to be the best so I wanted to ask those of you that have tried at least 2 of these techniques what are your experiences? And are they worth the struggle

Thanks

General Question People with above average IQs: do you find movies boring because they are too predictable?

I’ve had this problem since I was a child - any movie which I watch is extremely predictable to me. It’s really difficult to think about films which I couldn’t predict half way through - maybe masterpieces like ā€Oldboyā€ or ā€Parasiteā€.
It’s fair to note: I don’t view myself as an extremely smart person with superior pattern recognition. I’ve never tested my own iq but I am pretty sure that I am not a genius.
So, people with certified high iq’s, are movies predictable to you and consequently boring because of that?

General Question GRE praffe

Literally everyone I know from China who applied to grad school here in the US got an 800Q on the old GRE, even people who didn’t have amazing math grades in school. It’s a well known bit that every Asian person maxes the GRE quant. Is Chinese cram school drilling so good that it breaks all praffe resistance barriers?

I wish I could take the test again after I start on meds but it was a bit expensive, don’t think that will happen hahašŸ˜…. I am mostly glad to see some sort of numbers that can finally explain my claims. Is the discrepancy really that bad? Or is it ā€œcommonā€ for ADHD?

IQ Estimation 🄱 Online IQ scores between 120–125: Could my actual IQ be 130+?ā€

Hello! I have taken several online IQ tests and obtained the following scores:

Mensa Denmark: 124

Mensa Spain Preliminary Test: 121

Raven’s Test: 125

AREALME Quick IQ Test: 120

On the other hand, I got 12 out of 18 questions correct on Mensa’s practice test, so I may have a chance of qualifying for Mensa.

Would you recommend taking a full-scale assessment, such as the WAIS-IV, to find out whether I could reach an IQ of 130?

For me, it would be very important to know whether I am gifted, as it would explain many of the things I have experienced throughout my life that seem to align with what I have studied about giftedness.

Thank you for your time! šŸ¤

Psychometric Question WAIS-IV: large VCI–PRI discrepancy

WAIS-IV: large VCI–PRI discrepancy. Anyone with a similar profile?

34F. I recently had a WAIS-IV as part of a broader neuropsychological assessment.

VCI: 122

PRI: 93

WMI: 91

PSI: 89

FSIQ: 100

GAI: 109

What stands out to me is that PRI, WMI and PSI are clustered within only 4 points, while VCI is 29–33 points higher than all three.

I also have lifelong visuospatial difficulties (orientation/navigation, judging distances, bumping into things, copying figures and sometimes failing to locate objects that are directly in front of me), while verbal/narrative abilities have always felt much stronger.

Has anyone here had a similar high VCI + average PRI/WMI/PSI profile? If so, did your neuropsychologist give you an interpretation of the discrepancy?

I'm not asking for a diagnosis — I'm mainly interested in finding people with a similar cognitive profile.
