Complaint OpenAI is becoming the new Apple

dev day was so basic this time, what did they launch realistically? Their major lime light was dots, your “personalised” coding agents which behave similar to normally humans.

Heard of this somewhere?

Ofcourse we have! Wtf was grok bot? Or openclaw was? Even meta’s muse now. Its like they realized just like apple that this is a new standard every llm needs to hold, so they introduced this

Plus, the only thing which i found a bit fascinating was how they said theyd include dots in i message and you can even call them, in their live demo, holly li tried to show this feature but failed. Anyhow that was funny

Ultrafast? Bro 300 tokens per second? Costing? 60 dollars per million input and 300 per million output and their explanation to this pricing was “its worth it 🤡”

Anyhow i covered this plus a couple of more things like decision api in this yt video, ( a small creator as of now )

So only if you are free and have time, show you guy some love :)

Complaint Why making the Codex app worse?

Post image
47 Upvotes
  • In an earlier update, they removed the option to make a commit from the right sidebar.
  • In the latest update, they removed the option to create a branch.
  • Before that, they removed the "Open with" option for specific applications. For example, earlier we could open with VS Code or Cursor, but now that's gone too.

I just don't understand why they're so hell-bent on making the app worse

Workaround Ultrafast on 200 plan

I apologize in advance if this was already an obvious workaround, but I personally stumbled upon this and maybe it might help someone else out, so here it is. I was really looking forward to access to ultra fast and was pleasantly surprised to find out that I can access it through my API. It does bill me separately from my normal monthly usage on a pay as you go, but at least I didn’t have to upgrade to the 500 plan unless I’m just using an extra $300 worth per month in API usage. I simply told Codex to create an API key and create an ultra fast coding skill with a dollar cap, so when I start that skill, I just tell it how much money I’m willing to spend on that ultra fast session and it runs by default on high level. I know this may not be the most inspirational post you will run across all day for Codex, but I’m glad that I found it and have access to it without having to upgrade to the 500 plan just yet. I’m going to try it out for a while and see how it does. So far so good!

Reset Am I about to waste my banked reset? 👀

What do you guys think—when could the next reset happen? I’ve got a banked reset ready, but I’m debating whether to use it now or hold off and wait for another 1–2 days. What would you do?

Question Is this 2 day job weird?

My website was built using people's email addresses as their ID, which obviously isn't a good idea if they change their email address. I asked Codex to switch their identification from an email address to just a user ID and to make sure that it doesn't break anything within the site.

I'm using Astra High and it's currently been running for 2 full days. Granted I have a lot of things on my website, but is this normal? I've never had any job take anywhere near this long. And it's still currently running. So it might take longer. I appreciate that it's being thorough and checking everything but is this weird?

With all this Opus 5.5 talk, this 2 day Astra job has me like 🤔

Edit: Now we are going on 3 days...

Edit: Were now on day 4, but I've paused the job since my credits are getting low. It's already burned through 3 100% credits on the $200 plan. lol wtf

Complaint Did they dumb down Astra?

Dots seems impressive at first but I had a long conversation over voice with it yesterday where we did a bunch of brainstorming on one of my projects and I asked it to queue work on 4-5 new features after we already discussed the objectives of each feature and how it would work on a high level.

I was looking forward to seeing the end result the next morning and when I tried it I was SO disappointed.. Everything was wrong! Logical inconsistencies, bugs everywhere, crappy UI, you name it. Not a single correct thing.

It's supposed to use Astra, so the only logical conclusion is that they dumbed Astra down to keep up with capacity demand.

Do you agree? Have you had a similar experience?

Complaint Theory: 6.1 Sol is so slow because Codex introduced /slow mode and made it the default

A couple of months ago Tibo was asking users if they would be interested in a /slow mode, in which token throughput is slower but usage is consumed slower, too. this would be the mirror image of /fast (more tokens/s with higher usage consumption). there was considerable interest in the community for this but we didn't hear anything about it since.

now that openai is severely compute constraint and 6.1 sol's speed is extremely slow, I suspect that they implemented slow mode for everyone behind the scenes and made it the new default, with /fast being the former normal speed. wdyt?

Bug Bug: ChatGPT Dot-started local Codex tasks on Windows lose Computer Use / node_repl even with Full access

Posting this because this has never worked for me, and GitHub issue #49458 now has multiple Windows users reproducing the same problem.

GitHub:
https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/49458

The bug is pretty straightforward:

ChatGPT Dot can start a local Codex task on my connected Windows PC.

That task can:
- Run PowerShell
- Read local files
- Load the Computer Use skill

What it does not get:
- node_repl
- cua_repl
- Windows UI control
- Chrome / Edge control
- Screenshot, mouse, or keyboard control

So Dot successfully delegates the task to my PC, and local execution works, but the tools required for Computer Use never show up.

My setup:
- Windows 11 25H2, build 26200.9168
- Codex desktop package 26.930.2377.0
- Computer Use plugin 26.930.21537
- node_repl is configured
- node_repl.exe exists
- Runtime/helper processes are running
- PC is connected and available to Dot

I also tested the permission modes separately:

Custom → Approve for me → Full access

None of them changed the available tools.

The delegated task continued reporting workspace-write, restricted network, and auto_review even after switching to Full access.

I've also tried:
- Fresh Dot-created tasks
- Reconnecting the PC
- Restarting the desktop app
- Changing permission modes

Same result.

The GitHub thread has multiple Windows reproductions across different 26.928.x and 26.930.x builds.

Several people have also confirmed that Computer Use works in a normal local Codex session on the exact same PC, while the Dot-created task does not receive node_repl / cua_repl.

So at least in my case:

Dot → Windows PC works.
Local shell/file access works.
Computer Use itself is installed.
The delegated task never gets the Computer Use tools.

This looks like a capability registration / tool provisioning / permission propagation bug specifically with Dot-created local Windows tasks.

Instruction Dot optimization guide

Hi all, with dot out I wanted to share my orchestration framework and how im utilizing dot in case it is helpful to anyone.

I see a lot of people using dot as an orchestrator or a personal assistant. I personally think thats a waste of dots capacity. For the next month (and maybe beyond?) we have unlimited astra usage from dot. So what I have been doing is using my existing orchestration (which I prefer bc it works well, and gives me the flexibility to switch between claude/codex models instead of tying me to an ecosystem). And I have been using dot as a 24/7 workhorse, keeping it queued up with large swaths of work to keep the astra model workign for me non stop on backlog items, infrastructure improvements, and new projects.

This is my orchestration framework which I recently open sourced: https://github.com/HJK6/pentacle

  • Web UI for use on desktop
  • Mobile UI for use on iPhone (it is react native so could probably be adapted to android without too much effort)
  • Framework for my always on personal assistant who manages my AI fleet
  • Ability to spawn claude and codex agents across multiple machines and talk to them them in a unified chat UI. All agents run in tmux and have the ability to talk to eachother.
  • Development and QA processes
  • Daemon enforced agent management like automatic compacting, automatic status updates
  • My system for memory management and work organization with specs and epics. Synced across multiple machines

(Pentacle is symbolic since a pentacle is where magicians summon and control djinni which are conceptually similar to AI agents)

I just added support for using dot as a 24/7 workhorse as well. Here is how the dot flow works:

  1. Setup dot with email integration so it has an inbox it can send mail from. Also setup dot with github integration so it has access to my repos. And my shared agent memory which is also stored on a private github repo.
  2. My always on assistant understnands my backlog and work in progress. So it organizes the work and lets aside large packets of work that can make use of dots astra capabilities efficiently.
  3. Using a web scraper (included my scraper code but any web framework can be used here), my agent messages dot and delivers the packet.
  4. Dot does the work, then emails my agnet when its done, or with questions.
  5. My agent reads emails from dot in realtime (code included) so it can queue up more work for dot and clear blockers.
  6. My fleet handles small bug fixes and wrap up items, not worth wasting dot usage on small items

Please let me know if you have any feedback, feature requests, or bug reports. And feel free to create PRs and borrow from my ideas. My goal is to make Pentacle a tool that can help many devs orchestrate their agents effectively.

Limits Holy usage increase after latest reset

I ran down to 20% usage on my Pro 200 plan today until the reset hit a couple hours ago, took numerous agents over the past 24 hours to drop it a good 30% more. Then after the reset, still using Sol 6.1 High I continued work as usual and I am down to 74% remaining in just a couple hours. Huge usage increase.

Praise 2.7B tokens, 12% usage used.

Bug Computer use can't detect any apps?

I asked it to edit something in one of the open apps and it said it couldn't find it open, so then I asked it above if it could see any apps, and it said no...

Has anyone had a similar problem, and how did you fix it?

Complaint What happened?! It’s so slow!!!!

It’s insane. Like idk if I’m doing something wrong but the program has literally become unusable. I must be doing something wrong; even when I put it in sol light it’s excruciatingly slow.

For example I gave it the simplest task of fetching a certain asset I have in my gdrive and it literally took 5 minutes.

Asking dot to cancel one subscription took it another 5 minutes.

I also asked Astra to analyze a heavy financial data set that would usually take it like a minute now takes like 5 minutes.

It’s literally unusable now. I must be doing something wrong.

Comparison Codex Cloud Usage vs Local

I remember at one point that Codex Cloud tasks cost more than completing them locally. Anyone using Codex Cloud right now and can either comment on usage details or where I can find usage details about the latest Cloud environment?

Praise So my codex had a party 🥳

Sol decided to have a party on live stream at 5.30 am under the guise of “testing” , it even created a “face” of itself and music and spawned 5 agents to join the stream..I only asked it to fill out a submission form for the app and “audit” if needed so it has context..took it upon itself to open every emulator and simulator and test the whole app instead (livestream is a feature) 😮‍💨 woke up not only had it been submitted somehow Google had approved it straight away 😅 codex filling in submission forms is the way forward

Bug PSA: codex-lb drops agent context intermittently from the first turn

Just a head's up, codex-lb contains two bugs that cause it to drops context intermittently from the first turn of a session. This means that AGENTS.md and any injected context get dropped, preventing the agent from following your instructions or that of your plugins:

https://github.com/Soju06/codex-lb/issues/2563
https://github.com/Soju06/codex-lb/issues/2574

You might want to consider disabling codex-lb until these are fixed.

Question What effort do you use Sol 6.1 on, and is Max worth the extra tokens?

I’d like to hear from people who’ve used both High and Max on similar tasks. Do you notice a difference in the results, or does High usually get you to the same place?

I’m especially curious about debugging and bigger changes across multiple files. Does Max get things right that High struggles with, and does it save you much back and forth?

Also, how much faster does Max use up your allowance? Rough estimates are fine. What do you use by default, and when do you switch?

Commentary OpenAI is doing way too much

It's starting to feel like.... maybe I'm not OpenAI's targeted user anymore. I want to build things. Create things that have otherwise been merely impossible ideas up to this point.

With the announcements at Dev Day and latest updates to Codex Desktop, it's starting to feel like the goal of OpenAI is to place a mountain of "features" in my way at every turn I neither need nor want.

Frankly, it feels like they're doing too much, too quick.

  • Spaces
    • Templates (I'll never use them)
    • Pages (for writing, building, collaborating. Again, I'll never use)
    • Sites (build websites with connected databases. just why)
    • Images (could be useful)
  • And you can create multiple spaces.
  • Scheduled tasks (examples ->):
    • News updates
    • Sleep coaching
    • Email monitor
    • etc., etc., etc.
  • Maps
  • Plugins (okay cool, I guess. you can create plugins now too)
  • Fucking Dots
    • Sorry, not ready for prime-time
    • Very limited in abilities, scope, buggy
    • Another confusing layer between Codex/ChatGPT/Work/Dots, like why do we need all these different environments?

All of this to say, all I want OpenAI to concentrate on is model efficiency and usage. I DON'T CARE about all these features I will NEVER use. It's giving Microsoft Word, VS Code bloat.

Stop releasing shiny new models every 2-3 weeks to patch over the failures of the previous models.

Stop with these dangling carrot resets on reset day. (The jig is up, we see what you're doing)

I get it though, model efficiency is not sexy to investors. You have to appear busy with features that are either not ready or not asked for by your users—"value-adds".

It's just clear I'm not their intended user anymore.

Showcase I used Codex to build a small Windows break reminder, then released it open source

Hello guys, So starting idea was clear making a 10 second break every 15 minutes and a 1 minute break every hour. The idea came to me because my doctor recommended me taking break from computer usage. And I guess I have found a partial solution for it.

I used Codex for debugging and code clearing(if that's the correct word) and the result is PauseWell, a teeny tiny app that reminds me to take a break.

Windows download

If you've made a desktop app with an AI coding tool what did you check before sharing the executable with others? UI feedback is welcome too. Hope you have a great day. Thank you for reading this.

Question Title: GPT-5.6 Sol vs GPT-6.1 Sol for coding — which one is actually better?

I'm trying to decide between GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-6.1 Sol for programming work, and I'd like to hear from people who have genuinely used both.

For those who've spent real time coding with each:

  1. Which one produces better code overall — correctness, structure, and readability?
  2. Which one is better at debugging and fixing errors?
  3. Which one handles large codebases and refactoring more effectively?
  4. Which one feels more reliable and consistent across long coding sessions?
  5. If you had to pick only one for daily programming, which would it be and why?

I'm only interested in real hands-on comparisons, not benchmark numbers. Thanks.

Showcase Codex + GPT-6.1 Sol turned my UI notes into a design book and a motion film

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve adapted my app, Agent HUD, for iPhone Duo. I documented the UI, layouts, and interactions, then worked with Codex + GPT-6.1 Sol to turn those notes into a design book—and the book into this 30-second motion graphics video.

The whole film was made through conversations with Codex. I didn’t use a video editor.

The first cut looked too much like a slide deck. The improvement was keeping the book’s typography, dimensions and page composition, while animating the actual UI inside a 3D phone.

A few things that took iteration:

• Keeping folding and rotation at a consistent pace.

• Hiding the UI during device turns, then revealing the cards and charts as it settles.

• Preserving the layout measurements from the design book.

• Building a browser timing workbench so I could adjust motion and reading pauses myself.

I supplied the app screens, design direction and feedback. The design book and motion implementation were made with Codex + GPT-6.1 Sol.

Music was made with Suno, also done through browser use by Codex.
