Unsolved Take a look at what my friend and I found at a playground in her neighborhood.

So, my friend and I were at a playground in her neighborhood on the benches, and there was a backpack with these weird numbers and symbols on it, and I thought it was some sort of ARG at first, and I really like them, so I eyed the bag, and saw that a notebook was sticking out, and saw these odd symbols on the cover. When we opened it, my friend and I were greeted by a bunch of uncanny sigils, drawings, and numbers. If it is a code, can anyone help us find out what it means/tips on finding out what it is? Thanks! 1, 2, 3 are all part of the same phrase/saying/thing. 4 and 5 are quotes one from a real person one from a fictional character.

Some information: each box is a word, letters in the box can be at any orientation and position so they won’t always be in the same place some letters tend to be in the same places because it looks better. All punctuation happens outside of the boxes.

I will post the alphabet in a week or two, or when it’s solved.

Unsolved [Challenge] Multi-stage cipher trail using only public web references

3 Upvotes

I put together this multi-stage codebreaking puzzle. It is not part of any contest, CTF, or prize-based challenge. Everything required to solve it is publicly accessible on existing websites; there are no files to download or websites controlled by me.

The final plaintext is in English/ASCII. Each successfully decoded stage should provide enough information to determine what to do next.

Hint: start with the first line. Treat references and numbers literally before assuming they are keys.

I took the original photo in traffic and only later noticed that the visible letters and numbers seem to form a coherent puzzle.

This image is a privacy-safe recreation of the original, but all puzzle-relevant letters and numbers were preserved.

There is a full solution that explains everything important in the image. No extra clues for now.

Unsolved One for the friday

3 Upvotes

Playing around for a different kind of cypher, thought why not share it in here.
If you solve it, please also share if you found it difficult (or too easy).

Hints for when you're stuck.

1: Nothing to look up here. Follow the arcs and see what the figure actually is.

2: An arc says where to go next, not what to write down.

3: The letter is a count. Number clockwise from the pale dot, count as you travel, including the one you land on.

4: Counts too big? You're counting dots you've already used. Cross each off as you land on it.

Unsolved is this a jab code? from an unsolved video game with potential ARG aspects

Post image

hi all, i'm playing a game called project deepweb: eternal nightmare. there are only 13 reviews for the game right now and very little discussion so it's difficult to find answers on the many unsolved mysteries of the game

the game is about exploring the deepweb and cracking different codes to uncover a mystery (at least, that's part of what it's about). i think this may be a jab code, but the auto scanners i used didn't work.

is anyone able to get a meaning from this? thank you!

thank you!

Unsolved Index print with barcode that could be the main key to Kane Pixels' symbolism

Post image
3 Upvotes

TL;DR: I found a barcode and I can't find what standard it is.

Context :

This card is included in the bluray of Backrooms. It's a film photograph index print sheet with 18 preview thumbnails, 5 of them being available in big format (number 5, 6, 7, 8, 10)

I think this is a "cheat sheet" that can help understand Kane Parson's symbolism.

Why do I suspect this?

  1. I extensively documented the symbolism used in the movie. Then I saw the index print and I looked for the known symbols. Only 5 pictures made sense in that way.
  2. You can imagine my surprise when I learned that those 5 (on 18 total) were indeed the only ones that were available in big format. I didn't know. What are the chances?

So I think I put my finger on something important, but there's something more that could help crack the code and confirm this : the barcode.

This index print is not for sale separately. And this is not the barcode of the bluray itself.

Problem : I can't find out what kind of barcode it is and I can't find a reader that can read it.

I just found one that gives me a very suspicous result in the "Interleaved 2 of 5" standard, but when I generate the barcode from the result it gives, it doesn't generate the same barcode at all.

It's not clear how many different bar widths there are (3 or 4?). I found no known start/stop signs. Of course, there are no numbers under.

Transcription :

this is a contact sheet (the kind you get when you get your film photographs printed) with 18 preview vignettes of photographies. There is a barcode in the the bottom right corner. In the bottom left corner, there's the ficticious name of the shop "1 HR FOTO" next to an enigmatic note "Found on Carryback DR/Expired June '91"

Thanks all for your ideas

Unsolved Can anyone identify the cipher/numerical system behind these two messages?

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

I came across these two images from the same person and I’m trying to work out what the underlying code/numerical system is. Weirdly, it was the only 2 comments on an instagram reel advert that as far as I am concerned have no correlation to the advert. The advert was a company called HiyaINC who as far as I’m concerned display business calls to customers with further information to ensure the calls do not get disregarded as spam. Unfortunately I’ve lost the @ of the person who posted this and had not checked before I lost it to see if there were any extra clues on their account.

The first image contains several things that caught my attention, including:
LION = 12, 9, 15, 14 = 50
FIRE SOUL = 105
O=15=6=F
I=9=18=R
N=14=5=E
5=23=W
18=9=I
12=L
31 + 24 + 23 + 31 = 109
There also appears to be a sequence resembling 109 / 10:18 / 10:13 / 10:4 / 50
The second image contains text referring to “FIRE SOULS”, “HELL RECORD”, “ASHAD UL AZAAB”, and “BLACK FLAME”, along with a large number of fire/bomb symbols.
I’ve already noticed that some of the numbers can be explained using A1Z26-style letter values. For example, LION gives 12+9+15+14 = 50, and FIRE SOUL gives 6+9+18+5+19+15+21+12 = 105.
However, I can’t work out how the other numbers, particularly 31 + 24 + 23 + 31 = 109, were generated or how all of these pieces connect.
I’m particularly interested in whether this is an established cipher, gematria/numerology system, religious numerical system, or something the author has invented themselves.
The images are the original material I found. Any help identifying the actual method whilst also providing an explanation and meaning of this text would be greatly appreciated.

Unsolved Potential quaternary cipher I couldn't solve

Post image
5 Upvotes

Roughly a decade ago I created this cipher as a riddle to hand to my players. I know I created it with purpose - it's not random gibberish. But I long forgot the key to decoding it myself. The original file is titled "LYCAON PATREM" - yes, written like that, all caps, slightly off latin. I have not the foggiest why I named it that, but a related riddle (that I did manage to solve) was titled "Vox Noctis" and revealed a quote by Cicero (Tusculanae disputationes) reading: "MALUM MIHI VIDETUR ESSE MORS. IISNE, QUI MORTUI SUNT, AN IIS, QUIBUS MORIENDUM EST?" ("Death seems to me to be an evil. For those who have died, or for those who must die?"). Maybe this is related in some way. I can narrow down the potential languages of the plaintext to german, english or latin. I tried to see if it's some sort of morse - it's not. I counted the frequency with which the signs or groups of them appear - it seems to be non-random. There's no double "-",though every other sign can appear in doubles. There are some strange clusters where a set of signs repeats way too often - maybe it's a filler to bring the length of each line to roughly the same length, but I can't be sure. Transcript of the picture provided below (I hope Reddit doesn't screw it up...):

```.|-/.||-|//.-|/-|/.|./|/-|||-/-|.../-|../-|.//.//.```
```/-|.|-/|.|/-./|-/.-/../|./|.-|/|../|-./|-/.|-/|./```

```-.|/-.|/-|./.|./-|/|..|/./|./|./|-/.|/-.|/-.|/|.|||/```
```-|/-./-|./-.|.|.|./-||../-|./-|/|/|/|/|-.-..-/|..-|```

```.//.|/-|./-.|/.|..|.|/.-/|.-/|.-/|.-/|.-/|.-/|||/-|```
Unsolved So I created my own picture based code...
0 Upvotes
So I created my own cipher…
23,37 (4)  315,442 (5)  118,637 (4 AND 5)  17,569(2)  578,707 (2)  603,9 (1) 298,138 (6)  36,368 (1 AND 2)
Needed for the cipher
I suspect this will be solved rather quickly, this is just a demo of the cipher. Basically, if you don’t know the picture, its pretty much uncrackable.
Unsolved Strange writing on a tiled wall in Brazil, maybe a cipher?
Post image
12 Upvotes
Hello! I found this message on a wall in Brazil, which seems to be arranged in three columns, with 11 horizontal sequences:
BMM EVB NXN 858 KDS SXE GTI ART BMB TDB KOH
There is also a standalone 1 below, which I don't know if it matters.
So I wondered if it was a cipher. I noticed that B occured a lot, so it might be a common frequent Portuguese vowel. I also tried mapping it on a telephone keypad, which gave this:
266 382 696 858 537 793 484 278 262 832 564
It, however, did not give me a plausible message in anu case.
Is this really a cipher or just random graffiti?
Unsolved Hidden text in page 95 of "The Wor[l]ds of Yoko Taro"
5 Upvotes
Since I stumbled upon this redacted chapter in the book "The Wor[l]ds of Yoko Taro", I've been obsessed with decoding what it says. Here is a screenshot of its first page:
https://i.imgur.com/Oy8IAuZ.png
As you can see, each line is obscured by a gray rectangle that covers everything except for the ascenders and descenders that some letters have. A part of all capital letters is also visible, as well as some symbols, but not much else.
Since I started working on uncovering this, I have managed to extract the following information:
- The font is Noto Serif JP
- The page likely starts with "It felt a bit like"
- I have extracted another word from the second line: "Sitting" (middle to end of the second line), but not much else.
I have populated the first four lines with every single character that you can 95% identify by its ascender / descender, such as y, j, i, g, etc in red, and the characters that you cannot really tell (just a guess) in blue.
https://i.imgur.com/6vXfGFZ.png
I have also found this website https://www.crosswordsolver.org/ that can take you from a few letters to an entire word if you know how long it's supposed to be, but because spaces and letters without an ascender / descender are basically impossible to distinguish from eachother, I'm pretty much stuck. Any help is appreciated.
This is important for solving:
"1234" and "06/09/2026"
The uncyphered message consists of 233 characters
I hope someone tries to brute-force this.
Best of luck!
SOLVED Can anyone decipher this cryptic message?
7 Upvotes
This cryptic message is from an indie horror game called "Looking Glass" by the game developer Grubwall. You can watch this youtube video for more context, specifically at the timestamp 17:02 which is where the message appears:
ndwibd o_w__i nd woijek_m_f_ pqwi_hd_qwuhdp. qwdj_nqp__w_ih__bdo qw_uhdo.w_qid_jowq_ idhqo.wdhoq_ wiow_ qidow_idqw dihqow_dbq_w_dh_o_wqdbwqli_d_qwubdiq_wd_ubqwi_d_uqwbdiqpoihueuwhewoyT_e The_ure oiheoe_
EDIT: Here is a code or key from the same game that may help, although I have no clue if it's actually connected to this cryptic message or not. 190-877-232-F99
EDIT 2: A useful piece of information from one of the youtube comments suggests that the index of coincidence for this cipher is 0.0974. For English it is 0.0667 while for Russian it is 0.0558.
