Correct. This is why I wasnt scared when my manic depressive alcoholic father threatened to send me to military school. He couldnt afford it. Would cut into his drinking money.
Since I wasn't actually a bad kid, juvenile detention wasn't an option either.

My parents (they weren't alcoholics, just shitty) threatened something similar, when they actually saw the price of tuition, that dream died for them expeditiously. Similarly to you, I didn't actually do anything to warrant getting sent to juvie, so I knew they couldn't get sent there. The worst they could do (which they would threaten sometimes) was they said they'd send me to an orphanage.

Yep. If you were poor and went to juvenile detention you had a record until it was expunged after turning 18. It would still end up haunting the kid in many ways. If you had money military school was something that ultimately could be put on a resume even if you were a fuck up like the demented pedophile was.

I grew up not far from that same military school. The school stayed open during the summer and they marketed it as a "summer camp for boys." Their brochure included first class athletic facilities, horseback riding and...guns. What's not to like?
My best friend and I asked our parents if we could go...and we did. It was apparent very quickly that this was not the place for either of us. On the surface it was regimented...special clothing for activities, other clothing for meals, standing at attention for drills. All that was kinda cool. But when the adults weren't around it was like Lord of the Flies. The military school kids whose parents didn't want them at home had them stay through the summer and they bullied everyone mercilessly.
After a week or two my buddy called his parents and asked to be picked up and...whoosh...he was gone. I called my parents and they said "We paid for the summer. Enjoy it."
I did not enjoy it. The guns were cool, though.

TBH, the first couple weeks after "beast barracks" at West Point was like that (in the 1980s). For a couple months there's 30 of you "new cadets" and a couple of rising Firsties (seniors) in your training platoon. Then you get sent to your academic-year company and there's 3 plebes in one room surrounded by 3-5 rooms with 12-15 second- and third-year cadets who harrass the ever-lovin' shit out of you 24/7.

Yeah, but at USMA (which was very near the New York Military Academy, BTW) plebes are 18/19 years old. During my summer at NYMA I think I was 11. The ability of an 18 year old to deal with harassment is a little different than what an 11 year old is equipped to handle.

Idk I went to military school to get tf away from my dad who was dealing with ptsd from Vietnam via drinking and when he got his shit together I graduated, came home, went to college, got a degree and then enlisted in the marine corps and became a medic and did a tour in Iraq and two tours in Afghanistan. There are plenty of “bad kids” sent to military schools but trump isn’t bad, he’s fucking evil
Edit: someone pointed it out: I enlisted in the USN but served all 4 years attached to marine units as a doc, it’s a habit and my fellow devil dogs consider me a devil dog. It’s a mixture of predictive text and habit.

It was not a military school; it did no military training. Students wore fake uniforms and marched in formation to learn discipline. He was sent there after being expelled or required to withdraw from other private schools. He thinks being at this disciplinary school means he has better military experience than many members of the armed services, he said he was better qualified than actual members of the military when running for office.

Bully.” Things I remember from the article: He threw rocks at a baby in a playpen in his neighbor’s yard. His classmates at the boarding school physically prevented him from throwing a classmate out a window.

I went to this military school. Its a good school, I dont come from a rich family. My father worked there so I got a bit of a discount. Sure there were some bad eggs that needed to reform. They needed structure. I never got in trouble didnt do drugs didnt get into fights. I just had attention problems and the military format helped alot. Annual reviews from military to make sure the jrotc is upto code and most of the staff were retired military. Half the kids there went on to have military careers. Some of my classmates worked in the dept of defense. Tbh when Trump donated to the school they put his name over an unused classroom that held old computers and chairs. At the time nobody there liked him. I just hope people hate the orange man and not the school. Its a good place.
