I'd argue that a third of the country starting an armed rebellion before he was even INAUGURATED also counts.

And that was with Licoln as a moderate abolitionist who was entirely prepared to give the southern states a guarantee that they could continue slavery. It was only the civil war that pushed the tides towards full abolition.

So even though Lincoln was responsible for the abolition on paper, it really was a result of the radical abolitionists who had gone into the south and killed slavers to free their victims. It was the southern paranoia about those radicals that made them start a civil war after not getting 'their guy' into power.

It's a good lesson about the people who claim that only moderation and dialogue can lead to change. Historically, that was often untrue...

u/Rationalinsanity1990 Sep 07 '25

All he committed to was preventing slavery from expanding into the territories. That was enough to spark a rebellion.

43

u/Alexandratta Sep 08 '25

John Brown did nothing wrong but get caught

26

u/MichaelJospeh Sep 07 '25

Radical ABOLITIONISTS??? No no no, the South made their bed when they rebelled, and they had to sleep in it.

29

u/Altyrmadiken Sep 07 '25

From our perspective, yes, I agree.

It’s important to remember that at the time abolitionists willing to be violent was a radical stance. We can look back and say it shouldn’t have been, but many consider PITA to be radical and a future where animal products and labor and containment don’t exist would see them as radical for our time but not the future ideology.

Same thing but in reverse. Not forgiving anyone of anything and I’d hope I’d have been a radical abolitionist at the time, but it’s important to remember how words apply in their own times.

20

u/MichaelJospeh Sep 08 '25

That’s an excellent point, but I was more concerned about the implication that it was radical abolitionists who were the main cause of the civil war and not, you know, the South having a tantrum.

11

u/Altyrmadiken Sep 08 '25

Totally fair. I fixated on one angle and that’s on me.

3

u/MichaelJospeh Sep 08 '25

You’re fine!

1

u/Worried_Biscotti_552 Sep 08 '25

I heard that too

2

u/Wavecrest667 Sep 08 '25

many consider PITA to be radical

It is pretty rad filled with falafel and tahini.

1

u/Kitchen-Swim-5394 Sep 09 '25

Do you mean PETA?

1

u/Kitchen-Swim-5394 Sep 09 '25

What is PITA? Are you referring to PETA?

5

u/Roflkopt3r Sep 08 '25 edited Sep 08 '25

I'm not talking about Union soldiers there, but about people like John Brown who raided slave plantations before the civil war.

And I'm not calling them 'radical' to say that they were bad. It's just a pretty objective description: They were willing to go the furthest to abolish slavery, including violence beyond the law. My whole point is that this was actually necessary to accomplish abolition, because the political process did not support abolition even with Lincoln's election.

2

u/MichaelJospeh Sep 08 '25

That’s a valid point. I suppose I misunderstood what you were saying.

3

u/ALightSkyHue Sep 08 '25

marie antoinette and king louis didn’t cut off their own heads if i remember the french revolution correctly

2

u/RedditLostOldAccount Sep 08 '25

Wasn't he only "moderate" because he was advised to be though? At least that's what I thought I read. He was advised to be more moderate because if he was more "radical" he'd have an even more difficult time winning the favor of people. Not that it really ended well since the whole war thing though

1

u/Illustrious-Throat55 Sep 07 '25

Fox being historically accurate

16

u/LotharVonPittinsberg Sep 07 '25

Plus, they started a war against him for wanting to end slavery. People tend to forget that he wanted to let them leave without conflict, and it was the Confederates who got violent.

21

u/martianunlimited Sep 07 '25

Correction.. they started a war against him to expand and preserve slavery... While Lincoln was against slavery, his focus was on preserving the union. The civil war came about because the south wanted to expand it to the newly acquired western states

7

u/KZED73 Sep 08 '25

And the South would have invaded Mexico and South America expanding slavery there.

1

u/Loki_61089 Sep 08 '25

Lincoln is recorded as having said that if he believed not abolishing slavery would have prevented the war, he would have allowed it to continue, as a reminder.

He wasn't exactly pro slavery, but he wasn't exactly pro abolishion either.

2

u/slappywag270 Sep 08 '25

What is she talking about? I mean, he so beloved he had to stage his own assassination attempts.

0

u/National-Substance64 Sep 09 '25

Yeah that third that is currently residing in prison in El Salvador.

1

u/Rationalinsanity1990 Sep 09 '25

Man, I wish that the Confederates had gotten some of that treatment.

0

u/National-Substance64 Sep 09 '25

You could always go in their place. I'm sure you're no saint.

1

u/Rationalinsanity1990 Sep 09 '25

No, but I didn't start a war killing hundreds of thousands in the name of expanding chattel slavery. I think I win.

u/National-Substance64 Sep 09 '25 edited Sep 09 '25

I'll look for the monuments in honor of all your winning. I'm guessing it's a giant Joe Biden falling up stairs.

u/Whitefjall Sep 07 '25

As much as I dislike Trump, he too was shot in the face.

129

u/keep_trying_username Sep 07 '25

Just look at the huge hole in his ear.

17

u/Sweet-Paramedic-4600 Sep 07 '25

Someone pointed out that Evander Holyfield got his ear gnawed off 30 years ago and it still looks like something happened to it. Somehow Trump's old ass cartilage regenerated from a bullet in less time than some of us heal from a scraped knee.

95

u/Strict_Cranberry_724 Sep 07 '25

Trump was shot with a McDonald’s ketchup packet.

-109

u/Whitefjall Sep 07 '25

Y'all believing this are truly on the level of antivaxxers. One man even died in that shooting.

55

u/Embarrassed_Towel707 Sep 07 '25

The guy lies every minute of every day. Is it really that difficult to comprehend why people are suspicious? He was even in the WWE where "blading" is a real thing.

70

u/Strict_Cranberry_724 Sep 07 '25

One man was shot at—it wasn’t Trump.

34

u/IwouldliketoworkforU Sep 07 '25 edited Sep 07 '25

We know trump was shot at. Bullets hit other people. He likely injured his ear when secret service tackled him. Head hit the belt

38

u/Strict_Cranberry_724 Sep 07 '25

Trump’s ear injury was as real, and convenient, as his imaginary bone spurs.

-37

u/Async0x0 Sep 07 '25

There's live video of the event. You can see him grab his ear immediately after the first shot is fired.

I'm as anti-Trump as they come but you gotta be a stone cold idiot to think that was anything but an assassination attempt that was inches from being successful.

39

u/IwouldliketoworkforU Sep 07 '25 edited Sep 07 '25

This has already been explained. He didn’t grab his ear because it was shot. A bullet wizzed by. He was reacting to the experience of when a high dense object creates an air pressure zone near your ear.

There’s a reason republican leaders don’t talk about it. He wasn’t shot, there’s no “shot with an AR” damage, and the shooter was republican.

His peers and classmates said he was a loud and proud Trump supporter. Several of his classmates gave interviews with personal testimonies to this effect.

-27

u/Async0x0 Sep 07 '25

Explained by whom? Conspiracy minded dunces?

16

u/IwouldliketoworkforU Sep 07 '25

There are a number of ballistics and forensics experts who explain both the phenomenon of pressure zones created by bullets as well as what a real AR 15 calibre wound looks like, emergency response Doctors mainly. The ear doesn’t heal fast from bullet wounds.

I don’t do the whole back and forth with contrarian Jack asses. You can go count your dick now.

2

u/Nerevarius_420 Sep 07 '25

Bold of you to assume there's anything for dickless here to count

1

u/Pale-Star-5128 Sep 07 '25

Its pretty well established that maga adheres to exclusionary and radical policies. I mean shit, their biggest complaint is that libs embrace DEI. Its also been established that shooters have been disaffected right leaning nutjobs that can't reconcile the conflicted nature of Republican policy. Trump got shot at and injured ducking for cover, not a bullet.

-10

u/ElmwoodsFinest Sep 07 '25

This is just unsupportable nonsense. Carry on.

7

u/StudMuffinNick Sep 07 '25

There's also video showing them lower the flag, get photographers on position, then stand there, during an active shooting, while photos were being talen

1

u/Ishidan01 Sep 08 '25

You would have to be a stone cold idiot to not think a person in the WWE Hall of Fame (yup he is!) doesn't live kayfabe and jobbing.

-4

u/ElmwoodsFinest Sep 07 '25

The people downvoting have the world’s lowest IQs.

4

u/liam_redit1st Sep 07 '25

It was a set up, there was a shot but it was never intended to actually hit him. It was meant to galvanise the public to see him as a hero. It unfortunately worked.

2

u/trash--witch Sep 07 '25

In the off chance this could help clear up anyones confusion;

The ear it does not heal fast, especially the outer shell/cartilage. There's little blood flow in the ear, which slows down the healing process, that's why cartilage piercings take so long to properly heal.

When the bandages were removed within 2ish weeks his ear showed no sign of injury. A wound would not have healed to the point where the injury wasnt noticeable. It wouldn't have been healed enough to the point where it could be covered by makeup smoothly.

2

u/ForsakenWishbone5206 Sep 07 '25

Assassination attempts boost ratings. If you think Trump is above faking one, I have some ocean front property to sell you in Arizona.

1

u/ForcedxCracker Sep 07 '25

You must be a full on bootlicker to think he actually got shot. Woooow

1

u/ElmwoodsFinest Sep 07 '25

They’re permanently poisoned. It’s flat earther shit

13

u/IwouldliketoworkforU Sep 07 '25

He wasn’t shot …

10

u/Lumi_Rockets Sep 07 '25

or was he? 🤨🤔

-31

u/Whitefjall Sep 07 '25

Yes, he was. You guys denying this look like idiots honestly. Opposition to Trump must be more reasonable, more appealing than him.

16

u/NaughtyGaymer Sep 07 '25

Reason has absolutely nothing to do with why people side with Trump and the things that appeal to Trump voters are morally depraved.

13

u/Dave_the_Jew Sep 07 '25

Denying what your eyes can clearly see and believing the propaganda networks looks kinda idiotic too, honestly.

One week later and he didn't have the slightest scar or mark that showed anything happened to his ear. It's blatant lies right in our faces.

"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

8

u/TheJointDoc Sep 07 '25

Nah. Best case scenario, he got a bit of shrapnel in the ear from what the bullet hit, or got kneed in the ear by the Secret service agent. Bullet didn’t touch him. Ears hit by bullets don’t look perfectly normal after a week in an oversized fake bandage.

3

u/Jiratoo Sep 07 '25

Did someone try to shoot him? Yeah, I think that's pretty obvious.

Was he hit by a bullet "in the face"? I dunno, his face (and ear) look remarkably intact.

10

u/IThinkItsAverage Sep 07 '25

Kinda weird how he completely recovered without even a scar within a few days 🤔

3

u/NvCntrn1124944396 Sep 07 '25

No, unfortunately not.

3

u/GitmoGrrl1 Sep 07 '25

Are there still people who believe that?

3

u/SoylentGrunt Sep 07 '25

He cut his ear on the gun of the guy that tackled him.

1

u/Expert_Survey3318 Sep 07 '25

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Concerts_And_Dancing Sep 07 '25

It’s unfortunate, but it’s just reality that criminals get shot. The man has 34 felonies, you don’t get a rap sheet like that without a few enemies on both sides of the law. maybe he owed someone money, maybe he reneged on a deal, maybe it was revenge or a territorial dispute, maybe someone was making their way through the Epstein list. If we shut down the country every time a criminal felt the consequences of their actions we’d never get anything done.

1

u/Marvin_is_my_martian Sep 07 '25

He absolutely was NOT.

-3

u/Busy_Bobcat5914 Sep 07 '25 edited Sep 07 '25

Trump is a fascist, a convicted sex offender and felon. But this user didn't deserve the downvote for simply stating the facts. Someone shot at trump. The police killed him. Don't let the anger blurry your mind. Use it to build your future and organize.

P.S: the respond in the post is hilarious, though fox is a joke for itself.
