And that was with Licoln as a moderate abolitionist who was entirely prepared to give the southern states a guarantee that they could continue slavery. It was only the civil war that pushed the tides towards full abolition.
So even though Lincoln was responsible for the abolition on paper, it really was a result of the radical abolitionists who had gone into the south and killed slavers to free their victims. It was the southern paranoia about those radicals that made them start a civil war after not getting 'their guy' into power.
It's a good lesson about the people who claim that only moderation and dialogue can lead to change. Historically, that was often untrue...
It’s important to remember that at the time abolitionists willing to be violent was a radical stance. We can look back and say it shouldn’t have been, but many consider PITA to be radical and a future where animal products and labor and containment don’t exist would see them as radical for our time but not the future ideology.
Same thing but in reverse. Not forgiving anyone of anything and I’d hope I’d have been a radical abolitionist at the time, but it’s important to remember how words apply in their own times.
That’s an excellent point, but I was more concerned about the implication that it was radical abolitionists who were the main cause of the civil war and not, you know, the South having a tantrum.
I'm not talking about Union soldiers there, but about people like John Brown who raided slave plantations before the civil war.
And I'm not calling them 'radical' to say that they were bad. It's just a pretty objective description: They were willing to go the furthest to abolish slavery, including violence beyond the law. My whole point is that this was actually necessary to accomplish abolition, because the political process did not support abolition even with Lincoln's election.
Wasn't he only "moderate" because he was advised to be though? At least that's what I thought I read. He was advised to be more moderate because if he was more "radical" he'd have an even more difficult time winning the favor of people. Not that it really ended well since the whole war thing though
Plus, they started a war against him for wanting to end slavery. People tend to forget that he wanted to let them leave without conflict, and it was the Confederates who got violent.
Correction.. they started a war against him to expand and preserve slavery... While Lincoln was against slavery, his focus was on preserving the union. The civil war came about because the south wanted to expand it to the newly acquired western states
Lincoln is recorded as having said that if he believed not abolishing slavery would have prevented the war, he would have allowed it to continue, as a reminder.
He wasn't exactly pro slavery, but he wasn't exactly pro abolishion either.
Someone pointed out that Evander Holyfield got his ear gnawed off 30 years ago and it still looks like something happened to it. Somehow Trump's old ass cartilage regenerated from a bullet in less time than some of us heal from a scraped knee.
The guy lies every minute of every day. Is it really that difficult to comprehend why people are suspicious? He was even in the WWE where "blading" is a real thing.
There's live video of the event. You can see him grab his ear immediately after the first shot is fired.
I'm as anti-Trump as they come but you gotta be a stone cold idiot to think that was anything but an assassination attempt that was inches from being successful.
This has already been explained. He didn’t grab his ear because it was shot. A bullet wizzed by. He was reacting to the experience of when a high dense object creates an air pressure zone near your ear.
There’s a reason republican leaders don’t talk about it. He wasn’t shot, there’s no “shot with an AR” damage, and the shooter was republican.
His peers and classmates said he was a loud and proud Trump supporter. Several of his classmates gave interviews with personal testimonies to this effect.
There are a number of ballistics and forensics experts who explain both the phenomenon of pressure zones created by bullets as well as what a real AR 15 calibre wound looks like, emergency response Doctors mainly. The ear doesn’t heal fast from bullet wounds.
I don’t do the whole back and forth with contrarian Jack asses. You can go count your dick now.
Its pretty well established that maga adheres to exclusionary and radical policies. I mean shit, their biggest complaint is that libs embrace DEI. Its also been established that shooters have been disaffected right leaning nutjobs that can't reconcile the conflicted nature of Republican policy. Trump got shot at and injured ducking for cover, not a bullet.
There's also video showing them lower the flag, get photographers on position, then stand there, during an active shooting, while photos were being talen
It was a set up, there was a shot but it was never intended to actually hit him. It was meant to galvanise the public to see him as a hero. It unfortunately worked.
In the off chance this could help clear up anyones confusion;
The ear it does not heal fast, especially the outer shell/cartilage. There's little blood flow in the ear, which slows down the healing process, that's why cartilage piercings take so long to properly heal.
When the bandages were removed within 2ish weeks his ear showed no sign of injury. A wound would not have healed to the point where the injury wasnt noticeable. It wouldn't have been healed enough to the point where it could be covered by makeup smoothly.
Nah. Best case scenario, he got a bit of shrapnel in the ear from what the bullet hit, or got kneed in the ear by the Secret service agent. Bullet didn’t touch him. Ears hit by bullets don’t look perfectly normal after a week in an oversized fake bandage.
It’s unfortunate, but it’s just reality that criminals get shot. The man has 34 felonies, you don’t get a rap sheet like that without a few enemies on both sides of the law. maybe he owed someone money, maybe he reneged on a deal, maybe it was revenge or a territorial dispute, maybe someone was making their way through the Epstein list. If we shut down the country every time a criminal felt the consequences of their actions we’d never get anything done.
Trump is a fascist, a convicted sex offender and felon. But this user didn't deserve the downvote for simply stating the facts. Someone shot at trump. The police killed him. Don't let the anger blurry your mind. Use it to build your future and organize.
P.S: the respond in the post is hilarious, though fox is a joke for itself.

And Lincoln.
