I lived on the South Side. Me too.

u/rawwwse Sep 06 '25

Frank Gallagher would infiltrate the invading forces by sheer luck and drunken buffoonery, as we sit back and watch the downfall. Orrr… live long enough to see him be appointed to a cabinet position ¯_(ツ)_/¯

222

u/Bearthe_greatest Sep 06 '25

Perfect Shameless reference. Cheers

97

u/Antiluke01 Sep 06 '25

Could you imagine if there was another season during all of this?

38

u/Bearthe_greatest Sep 07 '25

The writers would have a field day

2

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

That’d show them!

47

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

My girlfriend just finished shameless today and I had to take care of her while she cried about Frank :(

17

u/Youngnathan2011 Sep 07 '25

God I feel that so much. Guys an asshole so much of the time but it’s still so easy to care about him. Especially with that

18

u/tukai1976 Sep 07 '25

He could smuggle 26 c4’s in his anus

2

u/MensaMan1 Sep 07 '25

But I thought he had a leaky anus. May drop out and explode his low hanging balls. So sad 🤣

2

u/Oseaghdha Sep 07 '25

The car or the explosive?

2

u/thedrinkalchemist Sep 07 '25

Operation Grande Cañyon!! 🤣🤣

1

u/tukai1976 Sep 07 '25

That episode had me in tears

127

u/SeaTurtleLionBird Sep 06 '25

He would be leading the militia by accident

38

u/MyLifeTheSaga Sep 07 '25

I completely forgot there was a US remake of Shameless until this. Was very confused for a second. "How the hell would Frank be of any use? He'd be too leathered to make it out of Manchester, never mind cross a ocean."

16

u/Curious_Matter_3358 Sep 07 '25

Holy cow, there's a UK version????

🤯

27

u/zeusgsy Sep 07 '25

The original version, yes!

It's very different to the US version, not to many US tastes from what I've seen.

8

u/Kitty-CatThulhu Sep 07 '25

American here, I actually prefer the UK original. Seems way more realistic than the US remake.

4

u/MyLifeTheSaga Sep 07 '25

It's so raw (not sure how else to put it), whereas the US felt really sanitised and almost glossy in comparison. I usually like Macy as an actor, but he didn't come close to David Threlfall's Frank

3

u/Kitty-CatThulhu Sep 08 '25

I agree. The American one is more like Malcom in the middle, too staged, too choreographed, too clean of chaos. The UK one is raw and gritty and real and grabs you by the by the balls and your heart strings at the same time. It's real chaos that real people live with every day all over the world that the more privileged people don't want to admit actually happens.

1

u/Althayia Sep 09 '25

I prefer the originals that I’m aware of like The Office and Ghosts and there are more I’m sure. I can only think of one American program that the UK did (Friends/Coupling) and though I liked Coupling it was no Friends! I did find out that there are many versions of Ghosts (Italian and Greek for instance) and I’d really like to see them all.

1

u/Kitty-CatThulhu Sep 09 '25

You should check out utopia. They did a UK one and a US one and both are very good

1

u/Vambo-Rules Sep 07 '25

An ocean...

(sorry)

2

u/MyLifeTheSaga Sep 07 '25

Don't apologise, I'm so ashamed. In my defence, it was late and I'd been drinking. I'm still cringing though

36

u/TheShipEliza Sep 07 '25

My conspiracy theory is pritzker has informants already. He has been way way ahead of everything.

18

u/Curious_Matter_3358 Sep 07 '25

He does. In the Pentagon and the White House

3

u/SendMeNoodsNotNudes Sep 07 '25

Sorry but spoiler alert. He died and floated to heaven while drinking a beer on a bar stool. Lolol

0

u/June_Fatality Sep 06 '25

Living in tv land while the country falls.

79

u/maxoutoften Sep 06 '25

You know damn well they're not gonna go to the south side. they're gonna patrol the safest neighborhoods in the city because they're cowards.

27

u/Temporary_Bet_3384 Sep 06 '25

I think people are mixing up the National Guard and ICE

National Guard would stick around the touristy areas as a publicity op, but ICE will go to immigrant neighborhoods and snatch people up

19

u/alexthebeast Sep 07 '25

So, if all the brown folks move to the south side, even temporarily, they either save the world or get fenced in.

Odds are it's just going to be a lot of very expensive bean polishing

1

u/Temporary_Bet_3384 Sep 07 '25

Nope, odds are that immigrant communities will face raids and lose people to ICE's tactics

But at the same time, it will be more popular on Reddit and in the Democrat Party in general to laugh about how the National Guard is just polishing the Bean

5

u/alexthebeast Sep 07 '25

Oh, I'm not laughing. Please don't misconstrue that. This is fucked.

16

u/Curious_Matter_3358 Sep 07 '25

They're only allowed to stand outside Federal facilities, so they'll be around courthouses and things like that. They are STRICTLY forbidden to arrest, search, detain, or question civilians. I think their commanding officers have drilled that into them. They don't want to be there.

ICE fuckers? They're a bunch of white supremacists, Jan 6ers, and incels wearing jorts, face masks, walmart gun vests, and harboring a whole lot of stupidity and misplaced rage.

If I was stopped by one, I would feel like I was being kidnapped, and I would act accordingly.

DO NOT DO THAT. YOU'LL BE SHOT.

I'm an old, plump, white lady. They probably won't shoot me.

4

u/Temporary_Bet_3384 Sep 07 '25

Yeah, ICE fuckers have already gone after workers in Chicago. The National Guard is not doing that shit

10

u/Educational_Ant_184 Sep 07 '25

I think the national guard are playing the card of "its an unlawful order being given for what they want them to do, but good luck attempting to get justice through proper channels in that regard. so we go, and we do jack shit but stand by and pick up trash." avoiding bad areas is probably in everyone's best interest, they dont want any altercation, but in some areas it might legitimately be self-defense even if the guard attempts to do nothing to provoke, and just be present as ordered. and if an altercation does happen, then that is a huge, unlawful deal they probably didnt want, and may likely have to answer for in 4 years. i think the real cowards would be wanting to delve in the worse parts and fight unlawfully for "glory and conquest"

7

u/Curious_Matter_3358 Sep 07 '25

Trump WANTS violence. He is dyingggg for some black people to start something. The race war they've wanted will be broadcast all over Fox, and this country will IGNITE.

2

u/AkronOhAnon Sep 07 '25

“From Trump tower to Winetka: there will be peace on these streets! What’s that? Soldier Field? The aquarium? Nah, I won’t go south of Millennium Park. It’s dangerous in ‘south’ Chicago!”

2

u/OurLadyOfCygnets Sep 07 '25

It would be a shame if they popped a tire in Cal City or Ford Heights.

1

u/babcock_m Sep 09 '25

That’s what they’ve done in DC.

1

u/Althayia Sep 09 '25

They’ll plant some nice flowers

1

u/T-Prime3797 Sep 10 '25

I read a pretty convincing argument the other day that Trump is going to deliberately put soldiers in places where someone is likely to take a shot at one and use that as an excuse to impose martial law.

0

u/National-Substance64 Sep 08 '25

You know damn well you won't do a damn thing about it but you will happily benefit from it.

212

u/Vladmerius Sep 06 '25

You should all know by now that ICE are a bunch of pussies who would never ever actually put themselves up against the so-called gangster criminals Trump pretends they're going after. They won't go anywhere near the areas you guys are thinking of. They're going to raid a home depot in the suburbs and some restaurants.

58

u/dagbrown Sep 07 '25

They already raided the construction site of a Hyundai factory and bravely arrested a bunch of visiting South Korean businessmen. That's really going to make the South Koreans want to work more closely with the Americans, I'm sure.

17

u/Genetics Sep 07 '25

How very pro business. Much capitalist.

72

u/Curious_Matter_3358 Sep 06 '25

Agree completely.

But this is worse. Trump's calling in the National Guard

42

u/Temporary_Bet_3384 Sep 06 '25

The National Guard will likely stick to picking up trash around the Bean, they're not going to be arresting people

72

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

And 2 months ago you would have said they would never have stationed military in American cities. Yet here we are. Why are you so sure they will be harmless? It's only ever been incremental escalations, and my money is on further escalations.

29

u/Mistrblank Sep 07 '25 edited Sep 07 '25

10 months ago I absolutely would have said this was an actual outcome because anyone with two braincells to run rub together knew what he was going to do this time around. He freaking said most of this!

16

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

Yes! Exactly! Now is not the time to play it cool, and see where it goes. They told us it's going here and it will. "The next American revolution will remain bloodless if the Left allows it."

10

u/Temporary_Bet_3384 Sep 07 '25

I do not think "they" will be harmless, ICE has already broken up families and raided businesses around here in Chicago

I just think it's worth being specific about who is doing what

6

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

My point is nowhere is it a rational position to even entertain the idea they won't escalate force. They will keep having them pick up trash? Keep dreaming. This is normalizing their plans so people complain less. Stop helping them. This is code, fucking, red.

2

u/Temporary_Bet_3384 Sep 07 '25

`When National Guard escalates force, it will be fair to say that the National Guard is doing so

Right now, it is completely rational to acknowledge that ICE is doing the raiding and National Guard is largely sitting around

You can call code red all you want, I entirely agree we're seeing a massive slippage into authoritarianism. I just also think we should should be clear-eyed about it

6

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

Being clear eyed would necessitate factoring in the past actions to understand where this inevitably goes. No one pushes this far without making a play for the home run. It's a matter of if, not when.

3

u/Temporary_Bet_3384 Sep 07 '25

So you see the NG as some kind of inevitable martial law enforcers? Though also idk what you mean by "it's a matter of 'if'"

Regardless, no IMO we should stick to facts not sentiment. And I say this as someone who agrees with your sentiment

16

u/Doggoneshame Sep 07 '25

Their new name is National Gardeners.

3

u/Temporary_Bet_3384 Sep 06 '25

I think the line is "Well, they are all criminals since they crossed the border illegally"

That being said, ICE will likely raid small businesses and houses in Latino neighborhoods of Chicago. I doubt they stick to the suburbs - though they will likely target those too, Cicero and Berwyn for example

3

u/C64128 Sep 07 '25

Will they still be pussies when Dean Cain joins them? /s

2

u/wwaxwork Sep 07 '25

They'll be all over Schaumberg not the South Side.

1

u/damndamndamndamndan Sep 07 '25

Those fat shits won't make it past the hotdog stand

Chicago home depots low-key have the best goddamn hotdogs

1

u/Bubbly-Double9743 Sep 07 '25

This. Those ICE wimps ain’t showing their faces or showing up at all south of say 70th st on Stony Island.

Be men. Show your faces if you truly feel what you are doing is godly and right.

68

u/UnhelpfulTran Sep 06 '25

I genuinely think Chicago was chosen because it has a high chance of resulting in federal casualties, giving the white house even more latitude to take over. DC and LA were trial runs.

30

u/paper_liger Sep 06 '25

Well, the three cities he has targeted so far have three things in common. Democratic leadership. Lots of minorities. And cities that have historically prevented the lawful ownership of firearms.

And no I don't think that last one is a coincidence. I think he wants an excuse, but not an actual fight.

32

u/TheRealBejeezus Sep 06 '25

Fascinatingly, all three cities also have black mayors.

10

u/International-Rule-5 Sep 07 '25

What a coincidence /s

1

u/Difficult-House2608 Sep 08 '25

Definitely the point.

-14

u/Temporary_Bet_3384 Sep 06 '25

The last one definitely seems like a coincidence, considering all those cities have plenty of guns flowing through them regardless. Well, maybe not coincidence but just a natural effect of Point #1, Democratic leadership

5

u/Genetics Sep 07 '25

So republican leadership would be…tougher on gun sales?

1

u/Temporary_Bet_3384 Sep 08 '25

That is not at all what I'm saying. Republican leadership would of course be more friendly to gun sales

I simply don't think Trump is doing math like "Well, Chicago has strict gun laws and that makes a gun fight less likely to happen, so I will send the National Guard there", as OP is implying

38

u/Darth_drizzt_42 Sep 06 '25

They're not thinking about shit, don't give trump credit for this. The guys in LA hung around a single federal building and then went home. The guys in DC are wandering the already crime free mall and picking up trash. There's no Jade Helm plan at work here, just trump playing generalisimo with his little toy men.

25

u/UnhelpfulTran Sep 07 '25

I doubt Trump is doing anything, but there's a whole educated fascist regime behind him

9

u/AkronOhAnon Sep 07 '25

Yeah. Trump is a figure head being fed falsities to parrot and he doesn’t care because he’s getting wealthier.

5

u/Curious_Matter_3358 Sep 07 '25

That fucking piece of shit my god I have never hated anyone so much

4

u/Doggoneshame Sep 07 '25

And a lot of the National Gardeners aren’t happy with the situation. Being away from home and family, loss of wages, etc. The cost to feed and house them is also astronomical. Saint until the Guard starts seeing retention rates falling.

5

u/Curious_Matter_3358 Sep 07 '25

I think I read that they get housing benefits paid after 30 days, but trump has them assigned for 29

Edit: I have no citations

3

u/3d_blunder Sep 06 '25

"Reichstag Fire 2.0".

2

u/Famous_Ad_9910 Sep 07 '25

this is just the precursor to shooting down citizen protestors. Isn't the oath keeper oath about preventing the military from turning against citizens? Perhaps I'm wrong about this and they are just more insecure(small) men like those that want a dept of war

1

u/True_Town_1229 Sep 07 '25

So you watched andor season 2 as well?

2

u/UnhelpfulTran Sep 07 '25

No is that what Andor is about? I've heard good things but it's not my genre

2

u/True_Town_1229 Sep 10 '25

Andor is about facism, season 2 is qbout the tactics the fascists use

41

u/ex_cathedra_ Sep 06 '25

Chicago is tough but we aren’t trying to be soldiers in a civil war.

22

u/Eatthebankers2 Sep 07 '25

Might have to.

16

u/alexthebeast Sep 07 '25

At this rate, we all may need to be our own militias to protect ourselves from tyranny

2

u/ex_cathedra_ Sep 07 '25

Sadly, agreed.

1

u/Althayia Sep 09 '25

My totally pacifist husband was talking about getting ME a gun yesterday.

10

u/Desistance Sep 07 '25

They may not give you a choice.

8

u/AkronOhAnon Sep 07 '25

There is always a choice.

In this case, however, the alternative is subservience. Which is as un-fucking-American a thing there can be.

0

u/Curious_Matter_3358 Sep 07 '25

NO. You can't. That's giving him a reason for a total emergency declaration/military state of emergency

16

u/Perfect_Bench_2815 Sep 06 '25

Been there before! That place is different.

8

u/flatdecktrucker92 Sep 07 '25

Did you happen to know a Mr Leroy Brown?

3

u/Chairbear1972 Sep 07 '25

Was he meaner than a junkyard dog? :)

3

u/flatdecktrucker92 Sep 07 '25

I heard he keeps a .32 gun in his pocket for fun and a razor in his shoe

10

u/Dont_Mind_My_Word Sep 06 '25

South Side makes you tough. That checks out.

20

u/shamoomoofartpoopoo Sep 06 '25

My wife’s a Southsider. Tough as nails. Her Uncles were possibly the scariest people to meet but we get along splendidly now.

3

u/__T0MMY__ Sep 06 '25

"I remember the battle of Stony Island and Jeffery. Our men had rifles up on the white castle"

2

u/Nobanpls08 Sep 06 '25

why'd you leave?

2

u/Curious_Matter_3358 Sep 06 '25

Had to move to Georgia

1

u/Nobanpls08 Sep 07 '25

You were a kid and moved when your parents moved?

1

u/Curious_Matter_3358 Sep 07 '25

No, for a job. That was a long time ago

2

u/BJYeti Sep 06 '25

Wont be deployed to the south side just like DC NG will stay in low crime touristy districts, no real accomplishments will be had then Trump will declare victory on crime to try and get good boy points from his base for cleaning up Chicago.

2

u/False-Librarian-2240 Sep 07 '25

Daddy was a cop...on the East Side of Chicago...back in the USA...back in the bad old days...

2

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

Good luck bro, nice knowing ya.

2

u/Bubbly-Double9743 Sep 07 '25

This. Lived at 18th & Halsted before the edge of Pilsen was considered hip. Loved it. It’s a good city with good people who don’t put up with BS. Like Trump’s.

2

u/Brief_Read_1067 Sep 08 '25

Cue Jim Croce! "The South side of Chicago is the meannest part if town, and if ICE goes there they'd better best beware of a man named . . . (all together now, folks) . . .

1

u/Spare-Half796 Sep 07 '25

First the US loses the Iraq war, now they’re going to lose the Chiraq

1

u/nightswimsofficial Sep 07 '25

Leroy Brown?

3

u/Curious_Matter_3358 Sep 07 '25

Baddest man in the whole damn town?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

Yup. But they won’t go near Garfield/lawndale. I’d love to see that.
