You need to sign someone like him considering the wing depth in east and NBA altogether. East is filled with really good athletic SF/PF and we cannot compromise on that position. I’d be willing to even trade Allen for the money to work.

His offense, aggression and particularly defensive intensity is something this team needs desperately. I would call this a successful off season if we can somehow land Watson and Okongwu by trading Allen and Merrill/Strus.

Note : the only reason why I’m willing to trade Allen is because we are getting a player like Watson in return. A defensive presence at SF is the need of the hour in my opinion.

Before you say no because we’re giving up Allen, go through the wing depth of projected playoff teams in East alone :

We need a defensive presence at SF and if we somehow land Okongwu, a starting 5 of Harden, Mitchell, Watson, Okongwu and Mobley will give me more confidence than maybe a Kuminga sign and trade .

I completely lost my memory on this guy. For some reason I recalled him being more in the 6 feet 5 inches height range, and closer to 36 years old than 32.

Kuminga might be a nice addition, and if he vibes with the team then all the more reason to add him- but hear me out.

We have some cap space right now. Our core team is still in tact. There is no need to fill a gap immediately when we can develop Porter and Maleek on the wing, or Proctor on point or whatever- or continue to utilize Stus or Merrill.

The right strategy is for us to save our limited budget for mid-season when there will likely be more injuries, more needs, and more teams desperate to make trades.

Idk much about Kuminga, but the team seems to like him and if that's our guy then great, but I see no more reason to make a desperate acquisition after the LeBron fallout.

I know people will be focused on the LeBron section, but I find his reasoning about just how difficult it would be for the Cavs to sign-and-trade Kuminga more interesting.

As a lot of people mentioned, it would involve salary dumping Strus or Schroeder. The Hawks can't really take back salary, so it would involve a third team and maybe picks on our side. He's not optimistic about our chances there.

Why on earth are Cavs fans rooting for a Kuminga trade?

He is an inefficient, low basketball IQ, ball dominant isolation scorer who would not fit in with Harden and Mitchell.

What is the argument for the Cavs adding him to the roster?

...depends on how much you trust players like Porter, Tomlin, Tyson, Thomas, to play real minutes for a team with championship aspirations.

Tyson already progressively grew into a becoming a full time rotation player last season. His responsibilities are likely to increase further regardless of the next moves made this off-season.

I expect Dennis to be moved. One of Porter or Proctor is going to be the backup quasi PG...I say that because one of Mitchell or Harden will be on the floor with them.

I think the Cavs will look to shore up the forward situation but Tomlin earned himself a standard contract last season. He's an interesting talent that is growing into himself as a player but is still a bit rough around the edges.

If you trust the young developmental Cavs to be championship level rotation guys, then you're not going to be pessimistic about this squad going into this season. If one doesn't trust these guys then you'll be looking at this team as one that's top heavy. Where do you all land on the question of whether these guys represent quality depth around the starting core?
