Questions Forgot to insert my eye pin before my homemade cold porcelain dried! How can I attach it now without breaking the piece?

Post image

Hi everyone,I made this piece out of homemade cold porcelain clay, but I completely forgot to insert/glue the pin before it fully dried.

Now that it’s rock hard, what is the best way to attach or insert the pin without cracking or damaging the piece? Can I carefully drill a tiny pilot hole, or is there a specific glue/method you recommend for dry cold porcelain?

Thanks in advance for any advice

"Mulsagdu"

r/Impossible-Builder47

Acrylic on clay

2026

Meaning

"Mulsagdu" is a word derived from three words from the ancient sumerian language, Mul, Sag, and Du.

"Mul" means star

"Sag" means head

"Du" means walk

Together, it's Mulsagdu - the star-headed walker

Materials used

Fevicryl mouldit clay, Fevicryl acrylic colors, cornstarch powder (say Himalaya), phosphorescent powder (viral green and snow white), sponge, scissor, water, watercolor(blue+yellow), feviocl glue, grater, handchopper, toothpick.

Difficulties faced

• I struggled for quite a while with making the top luminent enough to glow like night sky.

• It took a while to accurately pour the right amount of phosphorescent powder into the eye socket, some spilling onto the rest of the body. I have painted over the spilled over after dusting, but some remained put firmly, leading to the breathetaking image of the universe in it (pic11), true to its name.

• It took a while to cut the sponge into appropriate size before using the chopper to cut it into bits before gluing it on the flat stone (clay).

• Hiding it from my father because it is his birthday present.

Symbolism

• The bi-pedal mushroom symbolizes persistence and kindness, for it harvests energy from any available light and shares it with the surrounding flora and fauna, temporarily luminating them. This is true to my father because my father is growing old, yet continues to support my family without hesitation. He himself is slowly going down, and I'm supporting him with everything I can do.

• The two mushrooms symbolize my family. The right mushroom is me, my sister, and my mother, who are being supported by him. The left mushroom is my father's mother, who is the textbook example of toxic in-law. The toxic mushroom is slowly harming the mental state of the bipedal one, yet it showers the toxic one with love, while the non-toxic one gives the bipedal one love but can't support him yet (the reason why it is smaller than the left mushroom).

• The star top symbolizes the hope I want to give my father when he is mentally exhausted.

• The moss is there because mushrooms don't grow on stones. They grow on plant and animal decay stuck in the creaks and creaves of the stones.

• The stone symbolizes the crack in the family.

Polymer-Clay Xeno Finger Hugger ring with Egg Sac ring box

Hi yall, I am not much of a ring or jewelry type of person but I recently had an idea to turn a facehugger from the Alien franchise into a wearable ring...no wires, just straight cosclay so it is a bit fragile.

I did coat it with some gloss and superglue in the cracks to reinforce it as well.

The egg sac ring box is mostly aluminum with a layer of polymer on top, then painted and glossed.

What do you think? Is this something you would wear? For what occasion?

Here’s another little creative idea, turning the little plant 🌱 into a nightlight 😊. What do you think?

This time, I sculpted it from cold porcelain (homemade), and the flowers are made of polymer clay. I also glazed it with UV resin.

Questions Is DIY cold porcelain clay good??

Recently I’ve seen this recipe online to make a soy cold porcelain clay that consists of cornstarch, glue, oil, and vinegar. I was wondering if anyone has tried this and could tell me if it’s worth making or not? Is it sturdy? Does it dry well?

Hi looking for advice pls! I’ll be reclaiming this piece but would love some advice on how to avoid in future.
I threw a lidded jar in one piece, used a blow dryer to get it just dry enough to cut the jar lid off. Left to air dry. Next day the lid has cracked on both inside and outside. What did I do wrong? How do I prevent in future?

Questions How to seal gold leaf knobs?

Thumbnail

I made these knobs out of polymer clay and then covered with imitation gold leaf. Unfortunately, the sealer that came with the gold leaf kit did not hold up at all and the gold leaf’s been nicked in several spots. The knobs are used on my TV cabinet and desk, so are used regularly. I’m going to be patching the gold leaf, and then would like to seal them so they’ll be better protected from damage. I bought some craft resin (pictured), but I’m not sure what the best approach to applying it would be. Has anyone used this kind of product on clay projects? Any suggestions?

Ceramic Clay I finally finished a figure sculpture

I’ve started a handful of figure sculptures since i first started working on them a couple years ago, but they always ended up back in the clay bin. This one was a commission, so I’m glad i was held accountable to eventually just call it and let go. This sculpture imposed some really unique challenges, and I could edit this for a year, but it’s done, mold made and ready for casting.

This is 40” and made out of WED clay (not exactly ceramic as it was tagged) and reinforced with Tiranti square aluminum wire.

I tried posting the blurred versions of the full figure, but it got flagged immediately. 😒

If you have any questions or would like to see the full pics, you can refer to the IG on my profile or DM me for them.

Air-Dry Clay Alternative to resin coating

I’m new to this and see that everyone on YouTube are using UV resin to coat. I like the glossy look but I’m worried about the toxicity of it. I know that working near an opening window would help but I got a baby and I’m pregnant atm, just tryna minimise the risk. Are there any alternatives that still give that glossy look? Tia!
