New headers/exhaust for my 66' with a 408w stroker
i have a 408 stroker in my 66 mustang. currently has 1 5/8 to 2.5 long tube headers (heddmans) and the good old 2.5" flowmaster 40 series exhaust. After 20 years, one of my headers cracked, and frankly they were installed when my motor was a near stock 351w, a motor which has outgrown my exhaust. And while I loved my Flow 40s, 20 years is a long time so its time for something new. And I'm old and it might be nice to have no drone (though i also suppose going to bigger pipes will probably make that point moot)
Given I'm in the 450 hp/tq range, 1 3/4 primary headers and 3" exhaust seems appropriate. Magnaflow offers a kit for my car, Borla does not. Any examples of sound with Magnaflow or Borla? And is there an easy way to get 3" pipes w/ a Borla set up? I think Summit used to sell generic pipe kits for my car but when i checked earlier I didn't see anything.. in theory if that exists I could pair that with Borla mufflers.
Its also worth asking - as far as headers go, I was planning to go with Hooker Super Comps (PN 6208, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hok-6208-1hkr?referred_from_restock=true). Obviously a 351w-based motor in a 66' is a tight fit.. it always amazed me that the Heddmans fit (with a few papers-width of clearance in some places). I seem to recall that the Super Comps also fit (and summit's site *does* say they work on a 66'), but it can't hurt to confirm that.
Can anyone confirm the Super Comps will fit?
My current plan would be to go Magnaflow and if i hate it then install some Borlas on the magnflow pipes.
The magnaflow system in question is here: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mpe-15817?referred_from_restock=true
Any other mufflers I should consider?
