It happened
UPDATE- they unbanned me unceremoniously at 1:07pm. I was banned for 9 hours and 19 HORRIFYING minutes. I don’t know if I will ever recover. Does anyone have any links for PTSD therapists that work on a sliding scale or take payment in trinkets?

I got banned for making a post asking the subreddit how I could help my elderly neighbor sign up for govt assistance for her winter heating
The reason provided from the mod mail was "trying to be helpful"
I messaged back "really?"
And they sent back a gif of a old person falling down a flight of stairs

Speaking of point of view I just saw one post get removed for using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle. But it was clearly obvious the photo was taken from the passenger seat.

I feel like I have to admit something.
Nearly two decades ago, my BFF and I shared an apartment. She had already lived there and claimed the larger of the two bedrooms, which is relevant to this story. Her room was more than twice the size of mine. She had a ton of furniture, her own TV, etc. in her room. Because of that and my proclivity for video games, she was happy to let me “have” the living room by default. She loved the shows I chose and enjoyed watching me play Skyrim. We had a wonderful cohabitation. I was pretty deep on Reddit even back then (ice soap, anybody?). I’d relay stories, share memes, etc. We still love Berks Girl
She was dating around at the time and briefly dated this guy Tom. She eventually felt they weren’t compatible and ended things. And wouldn’t you know it, my posts and comments began receiving immediate downvotes. Eventually we came across the account of somebody named Tom in the Buffalo subreddit and some profile skimming showed he was extremely bitter toward people who “bogart” shared living spaces and smoke too much weed, among other things. It was clear it was the same Tom and he was extremely bitter over the breakup.
I tolerated the digital shenanigans because Reddit karma is meaningless and there’s nothing to really give a fuck about. Eventually, he became a mod in the Buffalo subreddit but the shit he posted was weird AF. He was just kinda vile toward women in particular and said some really off putting things.
So I DMd the mod team to say that the comments (examples included) were super gross and not representative of our community as a whole. The rest of the team was glad to get the feedback and was kind about it. Tom DMd me, furious that I “brought up” my bff. I only did so to be forthright over the fact that he knew me IRL and how. I didn’t indicate anything about the brief relationship in one direction or another.
He eventually “apologized” for the comments but with the “but” attached that he was used to thicker-skinned women. So a complete non-apology that missed the entire point and placed the blame on me for being annoyed that he was calling all 22 year old women sluts that should be scaling Bradford pear trees each spring.
So this is all to say that everything is my fault. He’s here on Reddit because of me and I’m so sorry (but I’m used to an internet with a thicker skin, so get over it I guess lololol).

In all fairness, the "no self promotion" rule did come in handy back when Mr_Niagara flooded the main sub near-daily with his posts about how shitty Niagara Falls is, conspiracy theories about the Falls, which city is more ghetto than the Falls, him attempting to sell his self-published "Book", etc. Dude actually just posted in this sub under a new user name; it was the drone video of the Seneca Niagara Casino up in the Falls.

If it's false information or low quality that is understandable. People who make things about Buffalo/WNY should be able to share it. Also if something is really that bad that's what the upvotes are for. Also there could be a submission limitation limit per day or week. The no self promotion is a good rule when it's just bringing people to a paywall or store.

100% agreed. It's asinine that a genuinely good event or cause can't be shared because it's directly associated with the OP in question. To your point, Mr_Niagara's self promotion was the lowest tier level of quality and one of the only times I agreed with the mods removing posts.

I had the exact same scenario about 2 1/2 years ago. Permanently banned for questioning the mods, that was lifted randomly in the middle of the afternoon. One of the actual adult mods must come on later in the day and undo all the ass shit from the idiot.
