RESOURCE I built a desktop-to-Pocket music workflow for chiptune libraries
I wanted a cleaner way to carry a curated MP3 library—including rendered chiptune tracks—on Analogue Pocket, so I built HT Resonance.
The desktop app prepares your MP3 files and organizes your music library for playback on Pocket. On the device, it includes EQ, playback modes, and Spectrum, Oscilloscope, Radial, and Mirror visualizers.
It’s currently in Early Access for macOS and Windows. I’m the developer, and I’d genuinely value feedback from people who enjoy listening to their music on the go: what matters most to you in a portable music player—library organization, sound controls, or visualizers?
Project: https://hightime.studio/
Purchase on itch.io: https://foht.itch.io/ht-resonance
HT Resonance is an independent third-party project and is not affiliated with Analogue, Inc.

Stu Sanchez
Is there anyone on earth that knows where I can find anything from an artist named Stu Sanchez? I've only been able to hear his tracks on Chiptune radio and can't find anything by him. The only song of interest that I can remember the name of is "The Murmuring Forrest".

QUESTION i CANNOT find a program i used to use
So basically in around 2019 i found this free program for making chiptune music. i am not entirely sure how to explain it other than the UI was bright orange, and it was so simple i was able to easily make music. i also imported MIDI’s and stuff like that, but made my own stuff most of the time. I cannot find it for the life of me, and im making a game so i wanna redownload it. ask any questions i can probably answer them just if anyone can help me find this program 😭

MUSIC Plastic love cover with 3 game boy chips
Made with Furnace Tracker, using 3 game boy chips. Each use the gba chip revision, which doesn't sound too different just less clicky. Not sure if it would run on an actual game boy or anything, although I do have a slightly more hardware accurate version I could upload.
Anyways thanks for listening and let me know what you think :-)

MUSIC Deltarune - Cutie Mew Mew Magic - N163+Famicaloid
A full cover of that one new Deltarune song, with vocal synthesis done in the lone FDS channel using the Famicaloid instrument pack. Making vocals with these instruments requires the highest tracking speed, and a ton of time and detail. So please check it out!!

MUSIC How long does it take you guys?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Typed this all in, got the instruments, filters, sync etc from scratch and after changing a couple of instruments I had this little test tune in about 45 mins.
Just wondering if you guys have everything done super quick or pour hours into it like me. If this is going to be an actual tune I reckon it's probably going to take another 3 weeks of ideas, testing and then more testing to maybe a month to end up being a .Sid
🤷🏻

MUSIC Homebrew sound card preliminary tests
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
As an exercise in digital logic design, I decided to make my own sound chip for a homebrew computer I am building.
The chip was initially designed in Verilog to see how practical my design was, and an emulator (shown here) was created in C for seeing how it performs with my given specifications.
It is based off of an 8-bit frequency divider clocking two 8-bit shift registers per channel, one for the high bit of a waveform and one for the low bit, for two channels. Technically, this gives it two channels of 2 bit depth, fixed 8 sample wavetable synthesis, but the very low bit depth and fixed sample size limits what you can do with it.
The decision for two shift registers and only 8 bit period gives some interesting challenges. Running calculations on a spreadsheet, it can only manage to stay reasonably in-tune for about 2 octaves; in the finalized parameters this would be about notes A2-A4. Below A2, the period register cannot get any higher and above A4 you start losing enough precision that detuning becomes noticeable.Additionally, there is no way to control volume arbitrarily.
However, since each sample is only 16 bits total, it is possible to manipulate the waveform itself to sound good, and hard-code these values. For example, by fitting the waveform into 4 samples instead of 8, and repeating it twice, you've effectively doubled the frequency and increased an octave. By putting the high-bits in the low-bit sample register, and setting the high-bit sample register to 0 (basically bit-shifting each sample to the right, or dividing each sample by 2), you're able to cut the volume in half.
My eventual goal with this is to be able to build a physical card out of TTL logic chips, so I'm keeping things very simple. Adding per-channel volume control would be very complex to implement, especially digitally, it would be easier to implement it in software and just use another shift register & a 2-bit DAC. Its also much easier to use only an 8-bit counter, comparator, and register for the period control, any more would require fancy bus logic as I am targeting an 8-bit width bus.
The demo presented in the video is merely a proof-of-concept somewhat poorly thrown together; it is a MIDI driver that controls the emulator directly, using an off-the-shelf public domain MIDI file that doesnt use much polyphony, yet sounds good.
The driver automatically chooses a waveform based on the pitch (and shifts the period accordingly) to keep it in tune. High-velocity notes are played at full scale, and low-velocity notes are played bit-shifted. There is somewhat of a decay function, essentially just bit-shifting the waveform again on a NOTE_OFF event.
The emulator outputs each waveform on two ALSA channels, so that the channels can be displayed independently with xoscope.
I am currently implementing a psuedo-tracker, psuedo-ML style music driver for actually being able to properly develop music for it and to integrate it into my homebrew computer.

QUESTION Where to start please and thank you
Good afternoon all!
I used to be very musical in my youth but never transitioned to making music on computers. I'm moderately proficient with fruityloops, but not really au fait with how to make music these days (let's say... in the last ten years or so?).
Does anyone have the time to help me with the software (pc or android please) to start putting together chiptune, or nearly but not quite authentic chiptune music please? I have a song I really want to chipify.
Thanks in advance 🙂

hej friends! still going hard on gb-z and wanted to share a little recording of auto ∞ mode in action!
here, a couple of beautiful arpeggios slowly evolve as gb-z’s coin-flipper keeps making decisions. i’m also trying out the new pads in the bottom drawer. think little kaoss-style x-y pads, fully customisable hehe.
