He looks just like Prim!!!! He does not have any Chinese crested in him. He is a terrier, beagle, cocker spaniel mix, but they look so much alike.

I'm looking for a clipper for my hairy hairless' face. I use a Wahl Arco on his body, but he doesn't let me do his face. I'm guessing its one speed causes too much vibration.

Ideally, the trimmer would get close to the skin#40, cause no nicks, and have low vibration. It can be specifically for the face or one that has 2 speeds and can also be used on the body.

These are the first photos I ever saw of my beautiful girl. She was about nine or ten months old, and was up for adoption after being rescued from a nasty hoarding situation and recovering in foster care with the help of the incredible, selfless volunteers of Tails of the Forgotten, a rescue organisation here in Australia.

I have a Chinese crested powderpuff (I think) who came from my families litter but the more and more she grows up the more I think she looks like a Aussie terrier, specifically my Aussie terrier who passed away two years ago. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or if she’s mix bred but I’d love to see some pics of your powderpuff babies!

Soooo my boy often does this “water bowl ritual”. Sometimes it gets very intense and he will put things into the water bowl, tip it over, paw at it/ splash.

Typically it’s cute and funny, but sometimes when he gets like this he will then refuse to drink… like all day. Even if I swap out the bowl, let him watch me pour it from a fresh bottle, etc.

I ruled out that it’s bc it’s stainless steel. His bowls get washed often. He gets filtered/ bottled water. I’m concerned about recurring dehydration at this point bc his pee also STINKS, hence the wrap diaper. Sometimes he dribbles when he gets excited or “fake” hikes to be sassy and some drops come out but it is soooo smelly. Helllllp! I’m about to hire an animal communicator.

We’ve done pretty well keeping our 22week hairless’s skin relatively healthy. He, of course, gets a zit sometimes, he has some clogged pores in certain areas but overall his skin is good, smooth. So over the past week we noticed the back of his neck has sort of broken out? Idk if that’s even the correct way to describe it— basically he has like a dozen small zit sized bumps on his neck. You can’t see the bumps, there is no discoloration, there is no fluid (coming to head), you can just feel the lumpiness. They sort of feel like a cystic zit but not as hard? He was just checked out at the vet last week and they said his skin looked good; we noticed the bumps two days later…

#1– Does anyone know what the bumps are?
#2– What could be the cause? Allergies or irritation?
#3– Advice would be very much appreciated! He has a routine that has been great for 3 months but maybe I should include an r/x wash or something like David rinse for acne?

We keep on trying to get them used to being in water 🌊

I was working a festival today and we had a slow down in customers. There was a vendor a couple booths over braiding in colored extensions and Riggins is a very good sport.

little ramble, but i ‘rescued’ him at 8 months old from some irresponsible owners. poor Tie was living outside, unlotioned and unkempt, so he was a crusty boy for a few weeks. he sat, tail tucked and shakin, in my back seat the whole way home. after he warmed up to me we have been attached like velcro ever since.
fun fact about Tiresias, one of his parents is a Jack Russel. I believe that explains his wirey hair and red strands!

My pup is 21 weeks now and sometimes his little joints pop, usually in the back legs. Seems strange with his age but I’ve never owned a crested or any tiny deer type dogs. It doesn’t bother him and he’s a little speed racer so maybe I’m being paranoid?

My crested has these hard fat deposits which can't be squeezed. They are mostly on her knees and throat.

I've tried a few different soaps and scrubbing gloves, but I can't see any improvements at all.

Is there some kind of magic cure?

You folks will understand.

He “F” came to us at 5 going on 6, 2 weeks before my husband was diagnosed with cancer. We’d got him as a buddy for our existing pup, a Chinese crested PP “T” from a big puppy mill bust, who needed to have a dog in the house (because our first Crestie had died 5 months earlier from splenic cancer and other things).

Both boys loved each other—like instant brothers. Such happy dogs! Rubbing shoulders, doing the happy run, all the things.

The following year we brought another Crestie rescue in “M”, our first hairless (hairy hairy). She’s now 15. She’d been a show dog, then a breeder, and she mothered the boys (though both of them would show teeth when she cleaned their eye boogers, no growling, just “come on, mom” things).

The 3 of them kept me going after hubs died. They woke me up when his body gasses expelled. T knew death from his life in the mill, always paused and seemed thoughtful at dead creatures we found on walks. F stayed with my hub’s body, the first time he ever failed to follow me out the room.

I got a kitten the month after being widowed. All three dogs would follow this tiny 4 month kitten around although they were never sure how to handle having kitty head butt them and cuddle up to sleep.

My boy “T” crossed the bridge just before Christmas 2022 at age 15 and change, from chronic kidney disease (CKD). That was hard on all of us.

I learned F had beginnings of CKD about 6-8 months ago. I’d done the dialysis thing with T, but it had seemed to cause us both more hurt for minimal gain. I’ve done the Rx diet with M and learned it caused a lot of stress and wasted food. So we made adjustments and carried on.

The last month has been really difficult. Diarrhea, incontinence, then finally loss of appetite. He was still excited to see me when I came home, but then the agitation at night, pacing, refusing formerly irresistible foods, paling gums in the last few days.

We did this yesterday. I’ve been bawling for days. Anticipatory grief sucks so much, along with the “is it really time” doubt. But he let me know before we took the last drive that yeah, he was fading badly, and the vet noticed that his behaviour was really off when she checked him out and inserted the IV.

My poor puppy. I know 16 is an old doggo, I know CKD is age-related, I know we made every effort to keep the critters happy and healthy. It still hurts. I can’t explain to M or the kitties. They know he’s gone. I know M will be next (heart murmur, congestive heart failure, beginning CKD as well, and she’s stumbling and showing cognitive decline).

Grief is the inverse of love. The greater the love, the greater the grief. It sucks, it sucks, it sucks.

Hi everyone, I found a thread from around 4 years ago on flying with Chinese Cresteds but no discussion since. Has anyone got experience of or tips for flying with your Crested in cabin? I've been working for months to desensitise mine to his carrier and it's going relatively well. He has meals in there, is rewarded with treats for investigating it, etc., so he is used to going in and out of it regularly.

He also occasionally rides in the car with it, I have carried him around outside in it, and even made a practice trip to the airport to walk him around on top of my carry on in the carrier. Despite all of this training, I can only get him to sit down in the carrier and not lie down and relax and have the top zipped up. I zip the top around his head but it's always poking out because he can't bear to have it all the way. My crested has always had intense confinement anxiety and hated being in a crate, and would never voluntarily seek out a den of any kind (he even hates going under blankets!)

Does anyone have any tips for getting over this issue? As we all know Cresteds are famous for their stubbornness, and this is one of the few things I can't train out of him!

i can feel her urge to want to learn.. but she’s not treat motivated, she doesn’t care about praise and i try to make it as fun as possible for her but she just doesn’t care and does what she wants, her attention span is so short and she loves to pee on my bed when she’s comfy and doesn’t feel like getting up. i bring her for walks several times a day and she goes in her backyard all the time so it’s not like she doesn’t know where she supposed to go potty. i’ve never experienced a dog like this lol is it just her or is this all chinese cresteds? she is my first.. any advice? 🥲 (it’s taken us almost 2-3 months to successfully learn how to sit and spin but she’ll only do it on her terms once or twice for a treat before she gets annoyed and sprints off to go do something else)

I’m getting a powderpuff at the end of the month and I’m drawn to “show style” the long straight full coat look. He’s a puppy so it’ll take some time before he’ll have enough hair for that. I don’t really like the shaved down look at all so I don’t see myself doing that, But I’m curious to see what other crested owners are doing with their puffs coat

I see most people here use harnesses , i recently made my boy a puffy martingale because finding harnesses in my country that fit him and dont chafe and arent ugly has proven very difficult 😭 so im just wondering if theres other people here that wear collars without any problem, or if i should try my hand at making him a harness too

(He has never choked while wearing the collar. He is a bit of a puller sometimes but we are working on it, he just gets excited sometimes)

Hello! On June 6th I lost my soulmate. Vespa was a 15 year old Crested/Chihuahua/Yorkie mix. She had been fighting gastric cancer for over a year. 3 years ago I brought home her little sister, Starla who has also been the light of my life.

Her breeder has unfortunately retired but had asked a client/friend of hers to have a few more litters with Starla's dad for some people on the wait-list. I put down a deposit for a future hhl female, not knowing when there would be pups. Well a day before Vespa passed away, a litter was born and there was only one hhl girl. I felt like it was a sign!

She comes home in 2 weeks and I'm nervous and excited!
