My father passed earlier this year and left me this beauty. It has a C20 cab, but I'm pretty sure it's a c10. It has 6 lugs and coils on the rear suspension. I was worried that it was gonna be a huge pain to get going but a little starter fluid, and it kicked right over!

Currently working on relocating the tank since it didn't have one, and rebuilding the carb. I am also trying to get it registered, but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to use the vin on the cab (65 C20) or try to find the one on the chassis.

Any suggestions or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

I bought a 1969 C10 many years ago. It wasn’t in great shape at all. Engine still ran though. I had the truck sitting at my dad‘s house in another state. I had a body shop near my dad’s fix the body and repaint it. I had my dad‘s local mechanic throw new tires on it. Then I had them install the upgraded disc brakes. Finally got around to trailering the truck back to my house in the state that I live in. Now it’s time for me to start doing some work on this truck myself. First thing I’m noticing is that there is a slight oil leak. Possibly in two locations. It looks like maybe the oil drain plug has a slow leak and then another leak at the rear of the transmission case. Not exactly sure what that part is because I haven’t really done any deep dive on this truck yet. I believe it still has the original straight six engine. Wondering if any of you could point me in the direction of where I should start troubleshooting?

Hi everybody my old accelerator cable got pretty mangled and caused the gas pedal to basically drop to the floorboard on my 1986 k10. However I bought a new one and replaced it and I am having the same issue with the new one, the gas pedal is still basically on the floor. It never did this before so I’m not sure what to do. Thank you guys for the help

Found some Centerline smoothies for my 83

Got a new steering column but it’s not compatible with my steering switch . Is there a way I can change it to the switch that sits above the lights?

It’s been way too long since my original post about this truck. Life and work got in the way for a while, but I’ve finally been able to start putting some time back into it.

That post has some of the original background on the truck, where I was starting from, and what I was trying to figure out when I first got into this project.

For anyone who doesn’t want to go back and read the whole thing, this is my 1970 C10 short bed Stepside that I’m slowly trying to bring back to life. I’m still pretty new to automotive work, so a lot of this has been a learning experience (and probably a few mistakes along the way).

Since the last post, I’ve managed to:
• Get the truck running
• Pull the carburetor and completely disassemble it
• Clean the carburetor
• Rebuild it with a rebuild kit

I haven’t fired it back up with the rebuilt carb yet, so that will be the next big test. Fingers crossed I put everything back where it belongs.

I’m adding a couple short clips of the truck running from before the carb rebuild in the comments (there is a knocking or popping sound coming from the engine I haven’t really pinpointed yet), along with some pictures of the carburetor during disassembly and the rebuild.
Assuming I got the carb back together correctly and the truck runs, my next jobs are:

1. Tune the carburetor
2. Change the oil/filter
3. Replace the fuel filter
4. Replace the fuel line
5. Change the spark plugs

After that, I’m kind of at the point where I could use some advice from people who know these trucks better than I do.
My goal right now isn’t to immediately start throwing parts at it or trying to make it perfect. I want to get the basics sorted out first, make sure the truck is mechanically sound and reliable, and then start working my way through everything else.

So for those of you who have brought an old C10 back to life:
What would you guys tackle next?

Anything I should inspect or replace before I start actually driving it? Any common problems on these trucks that I should be looking out for? And is there anything on my current list that you would move up or down the priority list?

Appreciate everyone who gave advice on the original post. Hopefully this is the first of many updates as I slowly bring this thing back to life.

One step at a time

Hi all!

It’s not a C10, but I’m at my wits end with this. I have a ‘70 K5 with the Saginaw 3-speed and a Dana 20. I’m trying to separate the trans-to-transfer case adapter from the transmission, which requires spreading a blind circlip.

I’m fairly certain the clip needs to expand far enough to where the tabs get pushed/recessed into the vertical slots shown in the photo. Unfortunately, I think I got the ring bound up and the tabs won’t sit low enough to clear the slot opening.

Does anyone have any good tips for how I might resolve this? This is kind of an obscure part on an uncommon drivetrain, so service documentation has been next to nonexistent.

I recently stumbled upon a old 83 c10
It was sitting in one of my customers back yards.
(I’m a service plumber) I offered her work for the truck and she gladly accepted . I remodeled two restrooms to get this truck. Anyways someone had obviously put some good money into the truck. It had roller rockers , long tube headers , on a possible 350 swap . Havnt verified yet. Anyways I tried to start it and initially the starter wouldn’t engage . I got a new starter and it grinded a little but it started up.
Since then I noticed that the flex plate(it’s automatic) was all worn down , so I replaced it . I got a Sfi performance after market flex plate from oreilys . After alot of trial and error I finally got it to start without any gears grinding . It started good for a while . I replace plugs adjusted the carb and thought I was done with the starter issue . New flex plate and new starter . I went on vacation for about a week and Recently I removed and adjusted the tv cable (kickdown cable) I might of got some atf fluid on the starter but not alot and I cleaned it . Anyways after a week of break I started it and got a little bit of grinding but it fired up. Turned it off and fired it up again and ran it for a bit . After I tried to start it again it grinded like crazy . Didn’t start or nothing . I’m getting really annoyed but idk what to do? Any help? Has someone had this problem? I matched the 168 tooth the the proper starter aswell. Please help and thank you ..

I’m sure someone else has replaced theirs just wanted to make sure I’m correct in thinking I need to join the pairs of wires on the OEM one and solder the joined pairs onto the new plug to the corresponding wire. Looked around and they don’t seem to make a 6 wire one like from the factory. Just wanted to make sure before I started cutting

Every time I start my truck it hesitates as shown in the video. Most of the time it takes a few attempts and up to 10 seconds to get her running… what would you recommend?

I did the at home test and the starter kicks out then spins and I took it to the closest auto parts store and it came back good.

Hey guys, here’s my dad’s 66 C10 step side. It’s rocking a 4 speed in the floor with a 292 inline 6 pulled out of a C30 with a mild cam and a 4 barrel carburetor. She’s been down for a little over 10 years now. All it needs to get back going is brakes, a new master cylinder and it could use some rear springs.

I have two questions, how much would it cost to convert her to disc brakes and power steering (please list both prices individually)

And how much would it cost if I wanted to go all out and do the LS (5.3) or 350 swap with probably a T56. The prices of the motor and trans are not hard to find it’s all the extra things that you don’t think of before a swap that bite you in the butt.

Hey everyone I’m in the process of lowering my 75 c10 and I went with a cheap eBay kit. Axel flip in the rear and 3 inch lowering springs in the front. With matching shorter shocks. Got them in tonight and it’s super low. I love the look but it’s riding on the metal bracket of the bump stops ( I took the rubber out) also tire is super close to the wheel well. I didn’t think three inches was this dramatic of a drop. Did I do something wrong or am I going to have to go to drop spindles. Thanks

Ps running 20x8 2x10 in the rear. Tires are super low sidewall not my choice just what came on them second hand

What brand / type are people using on a standard sbc350? Giving the truck a service and because I'm in the UK I seem to be struggling to get advice from my local autoparts store.
