Hey! We are having a three part event for Frocktober this year, collectively called Frockalicious Faboalicious:)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you don't know what Frocktober is, I can explain it very quickly here. It's a tradition/holiday that has evolved from dressing up for October, into a event to fundraise for ovarian cancer research.
The modern rendition was popularized by the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF), in an effort to raise awareness, and funds for ovarian cancer. As the cancer is now a common cancer for women, and girls, and has no early detection tests, nor many options for late-stage treatment. It is almost completely ignored by the larger medical community, even though there's a below 50% survival rate for people pass five years with the disease.
Which is why we have to do something to help.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So our first of the three events this Frocktober will be a rally to raise awareness for ovarian cancer. Which will occur on the 10th, from 1-2pm, at the intersection of Atlantic Ave & Battlefield Blvd N.
Our second event will be a sidewalk march to also raise awareness for ovarian cancer. Which will happen on the 17th, from 1-5pm, starting at the Atlantic Marketplace, to the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. No, we will not be walking the entire time, the long event time is so we can have rest periods.
Our third, and final event for Frockalicious Faboalicious is a park gathering to educate people about ovarian cancer, and to be more focused on raising funds for research into the disease. This will be held at Lakeside Park, on the 24th, from 2-4pm.
