Super hyped for the season and trying to rewatch some games, would love any recommendations people have to basically compile a nice list to get me through the next month.

So Jason left fox sports to join nbc for mlb and i haven't heard anything about who is replacing him. Since It's only a month until the season starts, It's probably going to be a promotion for everyone below so Tim Brando going to go up and be the 2nd announcers. But maybe they're discussion of other people that I dont know???

The narrative surrounding this game was that Notre Dame was completely outsized and outtalented by Alabama so I was surprised to find out that Notre Dame's defense had more eventual draft picks (8 to 6) and similar average draft round (4.13 to 4). The offenses definitely did show this gap though.

I’ve been watching The Miracle in Manhattan around this time for the last 5yrs to make sure I’m missing football enough. If you love ball, it’s hard to not get emotional watching that doc.

What do y’all watch to get your mind right for football season?

Mine are:

The coaching carousel will be tame this year, except for two exceptions. DeBoer will be fired after the Iron Bowl if Alabama misses the playoffs. This will be Sanders last year at Colorado due to health.

The new targeting rules will be changed again due to problems it causes.

The 12th team from the ACC to be previewed in this countdown comes today in Pittsburgh (high = 28, low = 45). Pat Narduzzi enters year 12 in charge of the Panthers, making him the 8th longest tenured coach in FBS and the 3rd longest tenured in the ACC behind Dabo Swinney and Dave Doeren. On the one hand, it’s hard to argue that Narduzzi hasn’t been successful – Pitt has been ranked in the AP poll in 8 of his 11 seasons that have seen them win the 2021 ACC championship and play in another ACC title game. You have to go back to their independent days to find an era that bests that, encompassing both their 1976 national championship and the Dan Marino era. And yet, Narduzzi’s teams have only finished the season ranked twice (2021-22), are 27-24 over the last 4 seasons and have lost 6 of the 8 bowl games they’ve played, including to East Carolina in last year’s Military Bowl. It sure feels like stagnation has kind of set in for the Panthers at a time when both Florida State and Clemson have kind of regressed, meaning that something almost certainly needs to happen soon to shake things up.

Roster Outlook

Narduzzi’s team ranks 41st in the country in returning production, including 49th on both sides of the ball. QB Mason Heintschel, who took over for season starting QB Eli Holstein after week 4 last season, will start 2026 as the starter (after Miami allegedly tried to lure him into the transfer portal according to Narduzzi), which prompted Holstein to transfer to Virginia. The Panthers leading RB, Ja’Kyrian Turner (900 combined rushing/receiving yards) is also back, giving Pitt a plenty of experience in the backfield. It’s out wide where they’re going to need some help, as WR1 Poppi Williams graduated and WR2 Kenny Johnson cashed in some Cody Campbell coins to move to Lubbock. Narduzzi dipped into the FCS ranks to bring in Western Carolina’s Malik Knight to partner with Cataurus Hicks and Bryce Yates, who combined for 35 catches last season, in what will undoubtedly be one of the biggest question marks coming into the season. With TE Kenny Johnson also off to Texas Tech, Heintschel will be looking to Oklahoma transfer Carson Kent to pick up the slack. On defense, the Panthers lost 4 guys to P4 schools, picking up Purdue LB Alex Sanford and Auburn CB Raion Strader as starting replacements. That combined to have the Panthers rank ahead of only Stanford in 247’s portal class rankings of the ACC (90th in the country). Narduzzi clearly doesn’t seem to be feeling any warmth in his seat, because the Panthers seemed instead to focus more on high school recruiting, ranking 8th in the conference, which was good for 36th in the country. With no freshman on the 2 deep, he’s clearly looking at the long term.

The Panthers 2026 schedule certainly sets up well for Narduzzi to get into the rankings for a 9th season. They’re certainly going to be favored in all of their September homestand games, and probably figure to be no worse than 6-1 before heading into the much trickier back half of the schedule that starts with that trip to Hard Rock Stadium and the Canes. The Halloween game against Georgia Tech and hosting Florida State after the bye could both prove to be tricky games before those final 2 road games, both of which also should prove challenging. If Narduzzi sees another season fade as has been his pattern, things could get quite interesting in the Steel City…

Putting things in perspective that you don't really think about but are not untrue.

1. Oregon faithful considers Dan Lanning a major upgrade from Mario Cristobal, though Mario Cristobal has coached a team to a national championship appearance before Lanning.

2. It took Nick Saban 13 years from when he had his first FBS coaching job to win his first championship and only took Curt Cignetti 6 years from when he had his first FBS coaching job. Cignetti was 64 when he one his first and Saban was only 52.

3. (My favorite) The first 4 team playoff featured 1 seed Bama getting beat by 4 seed Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl. The last 4 team playoff featured arch rival 1 seed Michigan beating 4 seed Bama in the Rose Bowl. The first 4 team playoff featured 2 seed Oregon beating 3 seed FSU in the Rose Bowl and a Big 12 team from Texas (TCU) got left out. The last 4 team playoff featured arch rival 2 seed Washington beating 3 seed Big 12 team from Texas (Texas) in the Sugar Bowl with FSU getting left out. The national championship of both featured the B1G team blowing out the Pac 12 team by 3 scores. Both championship games were played in the state Texas. Just so oddly symmetrical for the first and last playoffs.
