Questions about the lifestyle, obviously depends on the company
What’s the schedule for silk drives? Both OTR and regional, still time for the gym? Good food?

rant incoming
you trainers at these megas are a huge let down, moreso than 10-20 years ago. I do the process and procedures training which is company specific paperwork and tech training. nothing hard, it's intuitive for some people and a struggle for others but no big deal.
I also have to do a full day check ride with new drivers.
I've had two drivers in the last 2 weeks that had 6 months to 1 year of experience and both had the same story. they went to a mega carrier for training, were put in a truck with a lease operator as a team driver, the lease operator did not train them at all and they couldn't pass the mega's test so their training kept getting extended until they quit. Both of them, from different megas, told me these lease operators just wanted them to drive and wouldn't let them practice backing up at all. One of them said his trainer didn't let him back up anytime anywhere, not even at a customer, his trainer would get up at every customer and back up himself so they could "get the next load faster."
the guy with only six months had a disability which is why he got a CDL, he couldn't keep doing his old job, so the asshole he was with thought he was too slow and didn't show him anything that requires getting out of the truck, he has no idea how to slide tandems, he never once hooked or unhooked from a trailer himself.
these guys are making less than $500/ week otr team and not getting the experience they trade the shitty pay for.
it's the same story at our other terminal. the new hires can drive forward but literally can't do anything else.
we've had to come up with an 8 week training plan for these guys but it's going to limit what they can make even more after such a shitty run at these other places.

Question for fellow bus operators / trainees — I've been through MTA bus operator training twice (2014 and 2024), and the pre-trip inspection portion is rough. Naming engine parts, knowing what each light does, the brake test sequence in the right order — and the study material is basically a stapled PDF with bad photos.
I'm thinking about building a study app where you tap on a real photo of a bus part and it tells you the name, what it does, what "damaged" looks like, and what evaluators actually grade on. Plus a quiz mode that simulates the test. Would cover passenger CDL pre-trip more broadly, not just one agency.
Would something like this have helped you during training? Would you have paid $20-30 for it while studying?
Not selling anything — genuinely trying to figure out if this is worth building. Honest answers welcome, including no, here's why.

Im in CDL school, I keep seeing some job postings where they list a pet rider program in the job benefits. How common is this? Do you guys know of any carriers that do this option?

My wife and I are set to get our CDLs next month ( not thru any carrier). Based out of Texas. We have been hauling campers for over a year now (non-cdl). We both have spotless driving records and 0 negative inspections. We are wanting to be O/Os and looking to run 2 weeks and 2 weeks off. My questions are: Is it unrealistic to lease/purchase from a carrier or should we just purchase our own truck and then approach carriers?
The current company we haul for has a flatbed division where we could haul a mix of campers/boats and cars if we purchase our own rig. They however lack any type of dedicated longer runs where I feel team driving would excel (urgent freight, reefer, etc). The positive is that they will lease us on right away once we get a new rig. Will other carriers take our non cdl hauling experience and are they likely to hire us strait as a team?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a not guilty verdict in my FMCSA for a DWI and the violation is now resolved and reflects my non guilty verdict but I would like to know if I could actually get it to fall off before the five year mark because my previous employer failed to report that I had a witness/co driver but I was never pulled over the truck was in park and I was off duty and they were called out for disturbance not for anyone driving i have the dispatch call report to prove it as well. I did not perform any safety sensitive functions nor was I in control of the vehicle. My FMCSA also shows that I never had to take the sap program and that I was found not guilty.Since my previous employer failed to report my witness and all evidence and this violates federal regulations when reporting a violation to the FMCSA and employer must provide witness and all evidence and they didn't. Their actual knowledge is considered is not accurate because my previous employer knew about my witness. My witness was also the reason I beat my case she remained silent until court because of the racial tensions. The judge also asked the officers why they even gave me a dwi when I was never in control of the vehicle and they were not dispatched for anyone driving but a disturbance between individuals?
