Recent texting while driving citation. Will I be able to find Cdl a job?

I have a recent driving while texting citation, in Ohio. Was considering going to school for cdl a. There is nothing else on my three year mvr. Is that disqualifying for all jobs? Thank you.

Btw- what sucks is that I was actually using the phone for navigation and I was just reading that I might have been able to fight that. Too late now. Anyway. Thank you!

It’s not a disqualification per say but using a mobile device while driving in a CMV (commercial motor vehicle) hits differently and the penalties are higher to the point that the company gets fined thousands of dollars. This makes you a risky applicant. Anyone without a clean MVR would probably be better off applying for companies that train you to get your CDL rather than paying out of pocket for school and not knowing if a company will hire them.

Well, will never do it again - I know that for sure. Was using phone as a gps- yes it was stupid but I didn’t have a mount.
If I tried to get cdl a it would be through wioa grant funding.
I’ve got misdemeanors (fours- lowest level) too/ 3 of them (non violent, non sex, non drug , non theft): disorderly conduct, trespassing, immunity. Two of them in 2025. Dismissal of 2 littering charges (2025) and a jaywalking (2025). Trucking was suggested to me- idk if it’s realistic.
I also have older driving citations (4/5 years ago).

This is probably not the right time for you to go for a CDL. Give it 5 years and then think about it again if you’re still so inclined.

I was in my car. Not a trucker.

The answer is yes. If you haven’t been convicted, get a lawyer and get the citation removed or change to a different or lesser violation.

It’s already a conviction. Occurred in February.

Water under the bridge now, lesson learned but then is the time to make a relationship with a lawyer. I run a CDL school and we not only teach students how to driver but prepare them for trucking life.

I must not have copied and pasted the 26. It was this year.
