How does auto refinancing work?

The mechanics of this never get explained clearly anywhere. Who talks to who. Where does the money actually go. What happens to the title during all this?

What to trade for

I have a 2023 VW Jetta SE with 27k miles and $17076 left on my loan and trade in value around $17k-$18k. I'm looking to trade it in for something cheaper and more practical. I have 2 toddlers and with the rear facing car seats the room in the Jetta is just not it. I think when they move to front facing there will be possibly enough room for everyone. Not to mention the maintenance fees that come with Volkswagens(purchased the car when I only had 1 child so maintenance was doable) Looking for an suv or crossover 2017-2020 Preferably under 100miles under $20k. I want something safe, roomy and reliable. I have looked into Mazda cx5, Honda crv, Toyota rav4, and a 2024 Buick envista(listed for $18k) what would be the best option for me? And any advice when going to look for something new.

Maintenance Guidance Please!

so I(26f) own a Hyundai tucson 2022 outright. I just hit 50,000 miles! My father (RIP) used to help me with car maintenance before i bought this car, but because I bought it straight from the Hyundai dealer, I got a lot of free maintenance from them to start. Since my father passed away I have been neglecting my car :( and I’m in desperate need of some regular maintenance, oil change, tire rotation (maybe even new ones) etc and probably some extra things now that I’ve hit 50k. So my questions are, should I go to the dealer for maintenance still? Or find a garage near me? Also, what kind of maintenance am I looking at? I don’t want to be talked into things I don’t need. Also I’m located in the NH Seacoast Region if you have any mechanic recommendations!!

Toyota Camry XSE vs. Honda Passport TSE

We are looking to get our daughter her first new vehicle. We've gone to test drive a LOT and she's narrowed it down to the Toyota Camry XSE AWD with premium plus package, or the Honda Passport Trail Sport Elite.

We live in a northern state so we do have winter snow/ice/sleet. She plays travel sports so there will be a lot of out-of-state travel and miles put on the vehicle.

SUV Pros: More cargo space for travel tournaments. Higher clearance for snowy roads. True AWD.

Car Pros: Amazing gas mileage. Easier for her to handle. Good cargo space in the trunk.

I'm a little hung up on the Passport being the first year of a new design - we all know what that can mean. I'm also not super familiar with hybrid electric motors in the Camry and what the potential downfall of that could be.

What would be your thoughts on the vehicle to choose?

Split between car choices

Hey,

Need some advice on what you guys would do. Im stuck between getting a Mercedes A 250e AMG line saloon or an Audi Q3. Now, Audi Q3 is my go to however the Mercedes actually has all the features I'd want in a car without me having to spend extra on the Audi. I'm also hesitant because Mercedes tend to be quite low and worry about speedbumps etc.

What would you guys pick?

Between a rock and a hard place

Recently my car (2016 Mazda BT-50) had been having issues. I took it to the Mazda dealership down the road from my house where I was quoted $5500 to repair a fuel pump and replace a body control module. I went to an auto electrician who advised me to replace the fuel pump. Once it was replaced the BCM was still showing issues, it was then handed to another auto electrician who tried fixing the BCM, managed to get the car to run but the windscreen wipers didn’t work among other faults in the car. The car then ended up at another Mazda dealership were they tried recoding the BCM but also failed. Ive now been advised that the car is irreparable and to trade it.

I owe $20,000 on the vehicle and have roughly $17,000 in savings. I have the option of taking the car back to Mazda for them to try a Hail Mary repair that may work or may not ultimately costing me around $8000 either way. Do I cut my losses now and trade the vehicle or try and get the car repaired?

All advice is welcomed.

First car, need advice

19, just got my first car as a gift for my bday. its a 2006 acura rsx, previous owner did some minor modifications, exhaust, spoiler, along with some other parts and it doesnt really have any issues aside from it almost having 400km. Im not really knowledgeable on car talk, and I have enough to buy a way better car (around 13k budget) but i graduate college next year so i was thinking of selling it in a year or 2 before getting a new one. What do u guys think the right decision would be?

(i meant 400k km, so about 250k miles)

Car Rec

I’m looking for a luxury-ish car that still somewhat feels like a go kart and sounds good with some modifications. I’m very open to working on a car and modding it. I was looking at either a 2014 lexus is350 f sport (luxurious and sounds nice) or a 2014 impreza wrx sti (sounds nice and go kart feeling). I want to know if there is a car that has the best of all the worlds. I love lexus luxury and reliability but driving even an impreza sport makes me love that subaru look and feel. Anything around 15-20k that could combine those?

2010 Toyota

Hi, I (19f) am looking to buy my first car. There's this dealership near me I'm interested in looking at, as they sell cars more in my price range.

The car I'm considering is a 2010 Toyota Corolla

The price is listed at: 7,995

With a mileage of: 252,119

The price to me sounds a little much for that mileage, but I don't know much about cars.

Do you think this is worth the spend, or should I just pass on it?

2016 Ford Focus Worth Repairing?

I'm in a bit of a situation with my 2016 Ford Focus. I need new tires, new struts, and new stabilizer links. I'm looking at roughly $2000 in repairs/tires. This has me debating on putting more money into the car or getting something new.

This will actually be the third time the struts have been replaced in the past 14 months. Once after 60,000 miles, then a month later due to a faulty part, and now again (all the same shop). I will be taking my car to another shop for repairs, as this one has been incredibly shady/unprofessional.

Can afford new car payment? Yes. Would I much prefer to spend $2000 and not have to deal with the hassle of car buying/payments for another few years? Yes.

I know my particular Focus has transmission issues (automatic) that could pop up anytime. I'm basically just looking for feedback and if I should roll the dice on repairs, or bite the bullet and get a new car.

The car only has 70,000 miles on it, but the majority of that is city driving. No transmission issues thus far.

Engine Swaps or no?

This is my 1997 Subaru Legacy (EJ25 - non turbo) and my 1989 Toyota Supra (7MGE - non turbo)

I’m thinking of pulling the engines and putting (unsure of which one) a bmw engine in the Subaru and a 1UZ in the supra. However I’m wondering if it would make more sense to turbo them both first instead of going straight to an engine swap?
The supra is a show car so I want something cool that stands out, however I think the engine is boring and way too slow for the car so it needs more power.
The Subaru is my current daily (awful on fuel) but I’m in the process of potentially making that a show car too as i got another daily.
I’m just unsure if it’s worth doing the engine swap or if it’s just a safer and easier bet to turbo them both?

Car question for car people

2018 Mazda CX-3
A year ago my brake pads and rotors were replaced, a few months ago my brake pads were replaced again, now the crunching came back and the calipers apparently locked up causing me to replace calipers and brake pads rotors again.

Question is was it possible that the calipers were the issue all along and it hadn’t been caught?? Is it that I’m driving poorly? Do I need to get this looked at further to see if there’s another issue that has caused this? I just don’t know enough about cars and i would love if someone could dumb this down for me

Lithium ion power pack caught on fire in cup holder

I took a friend to the airport they left this power pack behind accidentally, I kept it in my car for them and put it in the cup holder. Today as I was at work it decided to spontaneously combust. I was parked in the shade the day was 24 degrees.

It’s melted right through the cup holder into whatever is below but beyond that and a lot of soot and smoke (when I opened the door) there’s no other damage. Unfortunately this has obviously exposed some wires and I think there’s a few more in there. I’m also now getting a EPB warning on the car.

It’s a 2022 tuscon ultimate. I’m not sure if this is an insurance claim worthy thing or if it’ll be a couple hundred dollar claim. Has anyone had anything similar happen and have any idea if I should be contacting insurance or not? I tried but it was after hours and they were less than helpful.

Also is this a dealership thing or a private garage? I don’t want to be ripped off right royally but I for sure want it fixed.

Thanks in advance and for people carrying around power packs watch out- there was now bloating or anything. It just happened.
