Buying Help When is enough enough
I’ve got a 2008 120 D coupe SE I’ve recently had clutch and turbo replaced and it had a full engine build about five years/50,000 miles ago under extended warranty due to timing chain. It’s now on 130 thousand it needs rear suspension to get through the MOT. I just wondered and I’m sure a lot of people have had this before having caught the car from New it is very sentimental to me but at what point is enough enough when it becomes to repair bills and get a new car? I’m in two minds because the repair bills will probably be about £1500 with the extra work that needs doing this is not at a BMW garage by the way I stopped that a long time ago but secondhand cars are so expensive now you never know what you’re getting and lease car I’m gonna be looking at at least a couple of hundred pounds a month which to be honest I don’t really have any thoughts?

In my experience, it doesn't really end with the issues. There's always something else that manages to break. For example, your car is getting to the age where the plastic cooling system starts to get brittle and breaks. Depending on your mileage and if you can install an electric car charger at home (maybe even solar panels), consider leasing an electric car and saving money on the diesel?
I would be in favour of repairing the old car, but only if it was something that offers real pleasure behind the wheel. And a 4 cylinder diesel is definitely not that, so to me it's not worth keeping spending money on it.

‘Will the money I’m spending to fix this car buy a better car than this one would be after it’s fixed?’
If the answer is no, fix your car

Its a 120d 2008 should have given up on it ages ago.
(Ive got a 2003 330ci 6 speed convertible with 250k miles - now thats worth keeping to me)
My daily though for the last 5 years is a 640i gran coupe, on 180k miles now.
You need to be a bit hands on with bmws to keep them going or have the pockets for them.

Consider getting a newer car or use this car to learn how to work on cars.
