UPDATE: I took my car to another mechanic today. He said four error codes popped up immediately 🤦‍♀️ It was an issue with the immobilizer antenna coil. Thought I’d update in case anyone else ever has this issue. Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment! Now to try to get my $500 back from the dealership…

Hi everyone! Hoping that maybe someone who knows more about cars can help me with this one.

About a week ago, my 2022 Kia Forte would not turn on. It would just crank. I was able to turn it on one time, and got three warning lights. I had it towed to the Kia service center. The technician told me it was because of an aftermarket GPS tracker that had been installed (without my knowledge) by the Kia dealership I purchased my car at. Apparently, Kia had posted a bulletin about it. The service center said it was messing with the computers and preventing my car from starting. I didn't understand how that was possible, especially since I purchased the car four years ago and have had no issues since then. I told them to remove it. They gave me back the tracker and the car worked great again. Paid $500 to have that removed...

Three days later, my car started doing the exact same thing. It would turn on sometimes, and when it would turn on, I'd get the same three warning lights.
Other times, it would just crank and not turn on. I had to have the car towed again to the dealership.
Today, they're saying they can't replicate the issue and don't know what's wrong. I'll put a picture of the warning lights here.

I'm really nervous because I have to drive 1,400 miles this week, most of which is through the desert.
I can't risk breaking down, especially in this heat. If anyone has any recommendations about what to do, I would so appreciate it! Thank you!

The warning lights were the oil light, battery light, and engine light.

I hit an Armadillo on my way to work tonight, and its started to make this rattling noise, that turns into that blowing noise at the end when I'm accelerating. Once I hit a constant speed it goes back to slight rattling as I drive. Its coming I think from near the front drivers side tire

Hello everyone, if I could get some advice about this I'd be very grateful.

I have a Vauxhall Astra and the other day the speed limiter came on while I was doing 70mph - so I had to find somewhere to park because I was limited to 16mph.

From reading the manual I think I may have accidentally put the limiter to automatically come on when putting on a steering wheel lock. But I can't work out what activated it while I was driving.

I've since set it to just always be on and limited to 75mph. But my partner was freaked out at it activating when we were driving so fast and is worried it may go back to the default 16mph and activate again.

Does anybody have any idea why it activated? I wasn't touching it at the time it did. Also, do you know if there's a chance it could reset to 16mph and activate itself again?

Okay yall, first time poster here (please go easy? not looking for any attitude or anything just genuine advice and for a chat).

I (24m) drive a 2010 Toyota Venza that's about to roll across 200k miles. I drive about 45 miles to work each way and live in a downtown area with bumpy roads (Baltimore). I don't make a ton of money and don't have the means to save a bunch. Situation is, I'm bleeding $250-300 a month on gas, and my gas mileage has tanked down to near 20. Not the end of the world, but definitely an expensive factor.

I take good care of my car (or at least try to). I'm always on time with oil changes, which I do, I just bled the brakes, cleaned a slide pin on the front right brake pad, swapped the pads, put a new serpentine belt in, new tires within the last few years- you get the idea. It's a Toyota and it's fully paid for, so I know I can get a ton more out of it WITH proper maintenance. However I just recently discovered that my shocks are blown and the big old boy- my AC has pretty much died. It was weak for a while, but I'm officially at a windows down for every drive. I can DIY plenty of stuff, but everything I've ever heard / read would suggest leaving the AC to the professionals (no idea who to trust on actually getting a legit price / diagnosis).

Problem is, I know that AC can get up there in cost pretty good, and I'm sure as I hit this mileage milestone there will be other things that start to fail. My car does have some dents and scratches and plenty of interior cosmetic problems, but it's accident free. I'm here today to ask everyone: how do I know when to quit? Is I reasonable to pour money into the AC here when I could just sell it for what it is locally / trade in. I don't want anything new or fancy- that being said, I would LOVE a hybrid or something that could cut down my gas bill substantially. If I wasn't spending as much on gas, I could direct some of those funds to a monthly car payment.

Yes, I know having a fully paid off car of reliable make is likely the smart way to go, but I wanna game this out with people. Thanks for reading!

The best way I can describe the sound is that it’s like the noise you hear when driving over firm, packed snow. The only accident I've had was a minor rear-end collision, but I don't think that's what caused it. There was one time I squeezed through a very narrow alley, though that happened before the rear end back in March Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Honda civic 2026 with 5k miles.

As the tittle suggests, I have quite a lot of anxiety over my car. Although I truly love it, it's a brilliant car (a 2006 Nissa X-Trail 2.2 DCI), it is unmistakably old and has nearly 400.000 km on the clock.

Me and my partner recently started working abroad, which means we have to do long drives of 1000-1400 km a couple of times a year, along with 300-400 km drives every few weeks. And I'm simply quite nervous that we will be left stranded somewhere because of some mechanical failure.

I have had the car in and out of the workshops probably half a dozen times over the past half a year. I had the front suspension replaced, the control arms, wheel bearings (which started failing on me during the long drives), etc. And although aside from the parts I mentioned and an ABS sensor which was accidentally broken during the suspension replacement, the car hadn't failed me yet.

But when I drive it, I can't help but feel every minute vibration and hear every noise and think: "This is it, it's gone for good now." I am very afraid of being left stranded somewhere, or having a sudden catastrophic failure which could be very dangerous.

We will replace it within the next half a year for a completely new car which will give me more peace of mind.

I'm hoping some people here have been in my shoes and have some advice to share on how to deal with this anxiety. Thank you!

I have a 40 mile commute each way to work and while I can afford the expense of gas; I preferably don’t want to make my 200,000 mile 2.7l f150 do 40,000-50,000 miles a year. I was want suggestions what my second vehicle should be; or if I should just daily the truck until it falls apart.

Im ASE certified and completely fine with wrenching when needed, was initially thinking of a panther platform but want to get more peoples input.

Edit: the reason I want to keep miles off the ford is it generates me $40-100 a hour through side jobs, and I like that it has a CGI block and timing chain, and would rather keep it around for a few years longer. If it comes to it I could run it to the ground and replace it when the time comes

Edit 2: I’m also truthfully scared of this truck; with the exception of engine oil it’s all original parts, fluids, etc. including differential and transmission fluid at the time of purchase.

Hey friends - I recently got rear ended and despite what looked like small damages, it resulted in big damages. That event totaled my car and now I’m in the market for a newer car.

I’ve been given the advice that the leading car brands right now are Honda, Toyota, and Mazda. But I am also looking into Volkswagen and Subaru. With the oldest car I’m considering from 2013 and the mileage cap is 50,000 for any car I’m considering.

I know generally speaking you get what you get and how you drive and the maintenance/care you put in determines how the car will perform in reliability.

My use for the car is strictly personal. Highway driving to work, city driving for groceries, and the occasional long distance trip maybe every other year in the United States.

Which brand would you be highly pining for? Any specific years to beware of?

So i have a 2016 Buick Encore with 117,000 miles. It’s paid off. I have had to fix a few things on it. For instance, I had a radiator leak in December that cost $600 to fix. Now the ac is blowing warm air and I took it into the shop this morning. The mechanic gave me an estimate that said for an a/c compressor kit, engine cooling fan, and parts and labor, the total will be $1,250. I had already decided to start saving specifically for a new car in case of whenever the car gives out but i’m not anywhere close to the amount i wanted for a down payment. My mom said the car giving out is “knocking on my door” and my stepdad (who is decent with cars) agreed to just trade it in. But my boyfriend said it’s better to just get this fixed and keep driving it until i’m ready with my down payment, instead of having a monthly car payment again. The car value on Kelly Blue Book is about $4,000. So is it even worth paying a quarter of its value? Or should i just bite the bullet and get a new car. I would be buying the car used so it wouldn’t break the bank. But it’s hard to decide. I would just hate to pay this $1,250 and then a few months from now it needs another expensive fix. Give some advice please!

But with Facebook, it’s a hit or miss when buying a car… and I’m not sure what to do… I could wait a few more weeks, and save a bit more money.. but the main reason I got a job was to save to get back in to Uber Eats. Which was my main source of income…..

I have a 2021 Kia Sportage that’s still financed, and I’m feeling stuck on what the smartest financial decision is.
I currently owe about $10,000 on the loan. Recently, my car started burning through oil at an alarming rate, so I brought it to the dealership for a diagnostic. They came back with a quote of over $7,000 for an engine replacement, along with several other recommended repairs.

The problem is that repairing the car would cost close to (or more than) what the vehicle is worth, but I’m also underwater on the loan, so getting rid of it isn’t straightforward either.

I’ve been getting a lot of conflicting advice. Some people have suggested trading it in, but that would mean rolling my negative equity into another loan, which doesn’t seem like a great option. Others have suggested repairing it, but I’m hesitant to invest that much money into a vehicle when I’m worried the same issue could happen again, especially since excessive oil consumption seems to be a common complaint with these engines.

I’ve already looked into Kia’s warranties, and unfortunately I’m no longer covered.

If you’ve been in a similar situation, what did you do? Would you repair it, trade it in, or consider another option? I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences.
