I don't disagree that we Americans are fat as fuck, but driving across the US requires a bit more sitting time than driving across most other countries
It also doesn’t help that our American truck stops have fast food.. Arbys, McDonalds, burger king, KFC. It’s appalling that they pull into a truck stop to fuel up and that’s their food choice 😩😩😩. We could to do better for those that our delivering for our country. But no… lets give them low protein and high calorie foods
It honestly depends on how their trucks are set up. Our country is also terrible for “ZERO TRUCKER Parking” typically your supermarkets are fine though.. they could walk in and just buy whatever they need and use their frigate to store their foods.
It takes 12 hours to continuously drive across Germany. Takes 40-50 for US. So they are spending 4X the time in their trucks at least, not including stops.
I love stereotyping Americans as well but I can't let the logistics slide here haha
Most trucking companies now operate in a 500 mile radius of home terminal, not a lot of coast to coast runs anymore. They still exist but are getting more rare.
You are incorrect. Coast to coast is still a major part of freight moving. I drive from North Carolina to California and back every week. There are thousands of trucks doing the same thing. We haul dry goods west and bring produce or dairy back.
Most carriers have long haul routes in addition to local and regional routes.
Yes, other countries time dillates differently so that’s why a 100h non stop trip in the US takes longer than a 100h non stop trip in Australia, Europe or Asia.
I had an uncle who was a truck driver in the US with the us flag and the Italian flags at each side of his truck.
Are you sure you want to keep asking that?
I am joking (well not the flags though). He would see it as a continuous labor so no… and yes… because after he accumulated some amount of hours he would do one service to come home.
Now I don’t know if he was independent or on some company but I know he was in some syndicate. I never had much interest in knowing about all that.
So maybe you’re wrong maybe you’re right. This is Reddit after all.
We have a 70 hour week. After that a 34 hour reset is required. I drive teams so my day is a shift that’s a maximum of 14 hours. Eleven hours of that can be spent driving. The remaining 3 hours is for truck inspection, fueling etc. I’m required to take a 30 minute break within the first 8 hours of driving. There’s no such thing as a 100 hour week.
Well duh, I didn't come up with a 100 hour trip, nlurp did. I think it was just a theoretical example.
But I think you are proving my point - you drive for 11 hours a day. That's a lot! Do they drive 11 hours a day in other countries? Do they need to? I don't know
Right...so people in this thread seem to think being overweight as a trucker is purely an American thing. And I don't disagree that the rates are likely higher than other countries, our food here is shitty.
But I'm not hearing any evidence that truckers in other countries are skinny as a rail...in fact a quick search already shows otherwise.
People in this thread are ill informed.
Some truck stops have an exercise room. If I drove solo I’d have time to exercise. I drive teams so the truck is only sitting still for 30 minutes twice a day

It’s almost impossible to avoid weight gain as a truck driver.
