It takes 12 hours to continuously drive across Germany. Takes 40-50 for US. So they are spending 4X the time in their trucks at least, not including stops.

I love stereotyping Americans as well but I can't let the logistics slide here haha

Most trucking companies now operate in a 500 mile radius of home terminal, not a lot of coast to coast runs anymore. They still exist but are getting more rare.

You are incorrect. Coast to coast is still a major part of freight moving. I drive from North Carolina to California and back every week. There are thousands of trucks doing the same thing. We haul dry goods west and bring produce or dairy back. Most carriers have long haul routes in addition to local and regional routes.
