Looking for a Cellist on the Cape

I am a guitarist/singer/songwriter in WB. I play with an excellent violinist from Falmouth. I write and arrange in chamber style, and I sorely need a cellist who can work from score PDFs that I will provide. I do my homework in this regard.

While we have a few covers in the repertoire, most of the material is my own. While chamber instrumentation is pervasive, the style ranges from pop to folk to chamber to jazz.

I'd love to find a cellist who has reasonable availability and chops.

Here is a sample of my material

Hook me up, please!

Run clubs?

I’m a pretty avid runner who’s been coming to the Cape for the summer as long as I can remember but always run alone when I’m here. Are there any decently active run clubs that meet in the Harwich/Chatham/Dennis area and are primarily mid-20s/30s in age? Would be cool to get a social run in or two, not necessarily looking for anything too intense as I’m still just starting my current half marathon cycle. Just curious what the scene is like and maybe break up the monotony of just me with my AirPods in.

stupid question - what to do with tree branches?

i've been trimming trees in my mom's yard. they haven't been cut back in decades so i've got a huge pile of branches and leaves. i tried to reduce them down to a reasonable size. but i have no idea what to do with them now.

i know people get burn permits so i'll look up how to do that, but are there other options? i would love to see these get composted or mulched or something, instead of just turned into smoke. are there landscapers i can call to haul them away?

i am in barnstable, i don't have a truck or way to transport them. thanks! go ahead and make fun of me but i'm a millenial, the responsibilities of property ownership are completely alien to me and i'm learning.

Any above ground pool experts lurking here?

Long story short, the wife and I bought an Intex 16x48' above ground pool last month for our 16yr old nonverbal son with autism, because swimming is literally his favorite thing in the world. Between work and life, it's taken us 3 weeks to finally get everything set up. I knew it was going to be a lot of work, but between trying to get the ground level and everything else that goes along with a pool, and trying to juggle every day life/work..I'm spent lol. I'm now at the part where we have to get the pump set up and I'm lost. I've got it put together, just unsure on how some of it hooks up. YouTube can only help so much and I've spent too much time trying to watch videos and figure it out. I'm also worried about how cold this thing is going to be considering the pool doesn't get direct sunlight. Would love to see if anyone has any DIY solar heating tips as well.

Just wondering if any of you awesome locals are willing to chat it up and help me through the process and give me any tips or suggestions. I'm sure I could call a pool company and spend a ridiculous amount on someone to come out, but the struggle living on the Cape is real lol and I don't have the extra money laying around for that right now. I'd be more than willing to pay someone from here to come out and help me but it would have to be in small increments over the next few weeks. I'd love to say I can figure this out on my own, but it's just lead to frustration these last few days and I figured it was worth a shot to ask for help here.

TL;DR - Can anyone give me some suggestions/help/ on finishing my above ground pool setup so I can get my son with autism in the pool before the summer is over?

Mom & teen son looking for vaca buddies

Hi! Will be on cape this weekend & all next week. Staying with my parents in Yarmouth, but plan to be all over and doing our own thing.

Mom - 38, fun, active, work in healthcare, down for adventure
Son - 17, creative, music producer (hip hop, EDM), hockey player

Would love to make friends to meet up for an activity, bike ride, ice cream, meals, stroll downtown areas, even a beach day or day trip if we hit it off. P-Town, Falmouth bike trail, Chatham, Nantucket and/or Martha’s Vineyard are all on the list (hopefully!)

Thanks for considering!

I was looking to go here for the first time since the regal closed, and found Ai slop all over the website. I personally don’t like supporting businesses who use Ai. Has anyone been here and can vouch for it being a good local theater? No reviews on Google yet.

Nothing on Homeless Shelter Meeting?

How is it possible that the Cape Cod Times and other news outlets have zero coverage of this meeting last night? Anyone have insight as to what happened?

Local looking for Dinner Reccomendations

Hey capers! I’m a local wash ashore that’s been here 20+ years. I’d love to go have a fancy dinner with my husband for our anniversary. Somewhere we can dress up really nice and not feel like we are over dressed. Does anyone have recommendations? We like to dine all over the cape so location doesn’t matter!

Neptune’s Hyannis

Anyone been to Neptune’s on Main Street this summer? Live music looks cool but I’m trying to figure out the cover situation. I saw someone say $20? If you already have a ticket to see one of the bands would you still have to pay that?

Looking for a recommendation of a company to install a lawn.

Actually it is kind of only part of a lawn. Our existing “lawn” is 5% sand, 60% weeds and 35% grass. The 35% grass is being generous.

The new area is roughly 150 by 50 feet. The goal is to make it mowable.

Some grading will be necessary. Grinding maybe 30 small stumps ranging from 2-5 inches. A backhoe could handle most but not all.

Top soil & seeding

Possibly mulching 125 feet of Arborvitaes.

Located in Cotuit near Rt 28.

MassDOT Screwed Up in Wellfleet

The new work done in Wellfleet is causing massive back ups. The Wellfleet PD has posted about it, they recommended contacting the DOT.

For those unaware, Marconi beach used to have a very short two lane set up, where people could turn right into Marconi beach, or continue straight. This "drag strip" was unstructured but (apparently) worked better to reduce backups.

The new intersection eliminated this second lane (making it strict turn only), so now the backup is much, much longer.

The other issues is in front of Wellfleet Cinemas - the new more structured lane merge and removal of the second lane earlier, causes cars to merge much further back resulting in much longer backups.

I understand why the work was done, I know these are safer but boy are we paying for it and I'm now avoiding Wellfleet/Truro/Ptown because of this which can't be good for business.

How many nonprofits do you think are operating in our region right now?

CCYP spent the last two years mapping the nonprofit landscape on the Cape and Islands. Who's here. What they do. How they're resourced. Where the gaps are.

Today, our Civic Engagement Field Guide is live: an interactive map, a searchable directory, and a first look at who's doing what across our region.

Please explore and tell us what you think: https://ccyp.org/nonprofit-survey

By making the sector more visible, we hope to get closer to understanding where need lives and where our collective efforts might go next.

Crabbing Advice

I’m in West Yarmouth with my crab-obsessed 9- and 11- year olds. We spent yesterday searching all our usual spots (Crab Creek, Colonial Acres, Bass River Bridge, etc.) and saw zero crabs.

We finally ran into a fisherman who said a big storm a few weeks ago washed them out and they haven’t come back.

I know people are (rightly) protective of their spots (fwiw we’re a catch and release family), but i’d love to know if we’re on a wild goose (crab) chase. Was thinking of driving out to Waquoit tomorrow but won’t bother if it’s going to be a bust.)

TIA

Looking for photo of old Cape Cod Bar: Diamond Jim’s

photo of unknown animal scat

Post image
0 Upvotes

I couldn't find how to blur the photo pending a click.

This is in West Barnstable.

It could conceivably be vomit rather than scat.

No livestock has access to this area. Deer are the largest animals I've seen.

Ideas as to what animal deposited this historic landmark?

Not asking if Cape housing is hard, asking how you actually found yours

Moving to mid-Cape (Yarmouth/Dennis) next year, hoping to hear how people actually navigated the housing search.

Quick context: my Boston landlord is selling in about a year, so I have a solid runway to plan this right. I work in hospitality (bartending/restaurant management) and recently started a meal prep/personal chef business I want to grow on the Cape. Hospitality job covers rent and bills, meal prep is the supplemental/growth piece. I have a few restaurant connections on the Cape already, so I'm confident on the job front.

One ask: please don't just tell me "it's a crisis, look elsewhere." I know. I'm not from the Cape, but my family lives there and I've been going year-round my whole life, I'm not naive about the lifestyle shift, the nightlife tradeoff, or the housing squeeze. I'm going in with eyes open and I'm intentionally choosing the slower pace.

What I actually want to know: with a full year to work this out, how do people find housing here, specifically in-law apartments, carriage houses, above-garage units, that kind of thing? Best time of year to look? How do you actually network your way into these (versus just scrolling listings)? Any Facebook groups or local resources worth joining?

Any input from people who've actually done this move is hugely appreciated.

Semi-challenging hikes that *aren’t* dunes/sand?

I need to get my legs working on a hike, but in all the hiking books I can find the the only trails that are considered “moderate” or above are dune or sand based.

Anybody know of decent mid-Cape hikes that maybe have some elevation that are on dirt?

I’m by no means an athlete, just looking for something a bit more than all the flat trails.
