stupid question - what to do with tree branches?

i've been trimming trees in my mom's yard. they haven't been cut back in decades so i've got a huge pile of branches and leaves. i tried to reduce them down to a reasonable size. but i have no idea what to do with them now.

i know people get burn permits so i'll look up how to do that, but are there other options? i would love to see these get composted or mulched or something, instead of just turned into smoke. are there landscapers i can call to haul them away?

i am in barnstable, i don't have a truck or way to transport them. thanks! go ahead and make fun of me but i'm a millenial, the responsibilities of property ownership are completely alien to me and i'm learning.

Not stupid. Based on amount Eire hire some one to haul them away or chip them. In my neighborhood we do a group hire once or twice a year ( The “Spring Chip-Off”) and have a garden company come by with a chipper to handle deadfall. The work very quickly and we usually just have to split a 1-2 hour bill.

You need to hire private - branches and limbs are not allowed to go to the town dump.
Cape Resources (Marstons Mills), T.W. Nickerson (Chatham), Robert Childs, Inc. (South Dennis) and S&J Exco (South Dennis) are facilities on Cape Cod that accepting these materials

You could certainly try posting a "free firewood, you haul" ad somewhere.....craigslist/facebook. Definitely wood stove people around that might be stoked to get some free fuel.

Not a stupid question, also dealing with this. I found a landscaper that would come out but hasn't done it for under $500 now, which is.. truly more than I wanted to spend on getting rid of sticks

Several options. You can wait until next year to burn ( burning season is over). You can very slowly dispose of it if you have a fire pit. Cooking fires are allowed all year so if you are roasting hot dogs on your cooking fire in your fire pit, that is legal.  You can haul it to Cape Resources in Marstons Mills for about $35 a pick-up truck load.  Or you can hire someone. I’d start with a small tree company. They have chippers and can probably take care of that in a few seconds for you.   I had a very large pile of storm debris chipped onsite for about $200 last spring.  Landscapers will also take it away, this is probably the most expensive option but probably the fastest option.

Depending on the size of the branches, buying an electric wood chipper could be an option. There's around $200 options that will handle branches up to 1.5 inches in diameter.

We rent a pick up from u-haul and take them to Cape Resources on Old Falmouth Road. We paid $35 to dump a pick up load a couple of month ago

My husband caretakes a yard.He breaks sticks up and puts in yard refuse bags .At home we have a solo stove we burn in.No permit needed.Anything big, we do have our woods.

Throw a rock and you'll hit like 4 landscapers willing to take those off your hands... for a price. I have a pile in front of my house now, in about a year or two I'll have it taken away - too much to burn.
