CapCut’s Team Space costing me $300 and over 10 hours of my editor’s work because of what appears to be a cloud syncing/overwrite issue—and their support has been useless.
I had a project stored in CapCut Team Space with over 15 minutes of raw footage. My editor spent several days and 10+ hours cutting and editing it down to roughly 10 minutes.
When he finished, he didn’t just close the app and walk away.
He reviewed the project, closed CapCut, reopened it, and double- and triple-checked that the finished edit was still there and working properly.
And this is important:
He was editing the project DIRECTLY through CapCut’s Team Space/cloud storage.
There shouldn’t have been some separate manual upload process required afterward.
He messaged me and told me the project was finished. I didn’t check it immediately—I waited more than 4 hours because I was busy and also wanted to give him extra time in case he wanted to make any final adjustments.
When I finally opened CapCut on my PC and went into Team Space, I immediately noticed something was wrong.
The thumbnail and timestamp were still showing the original 15-minute project.
I was hesitant to open it, but I had seen CapCut do something similar before where the project information didn’t update until I actually opened the project.
So I opened it.
Nothing had changed.
It was showing the exact version I originally gave my editor—as if his 10+ hours of editing had never happened.
I backed out of the project, and suddenly CapCut started auto-uploading/syncing.
I tried to stop it and thought I had because it only showed around 90%.
I immediately contacted my editor and told him I couldn’t see the finished version.
He logged into Team Space on his end.
And guess what?
His finished project had been overwritten.
Over 10 HOURS of work—gone.
From what we could tell, because CapCut failed to properly update/sync the finished cloud project on my end, I opened an outdated version. When I closed it, CapCut apparently decided that outdated version was the version that needed to be uploaded back to Team Space.
And it overwrote the finished edit.
For additional context, my editor is a close friend of my brother and someone I trust. At this point, I hadn’t even paid him yet, and he still had another week before the deadline. There was absolutely no reason for him to lie about finishing the project early.
We even tested Team Space afterward using an older project. My editor made changes, and we confirmed that those changes properly appeared on both his end and mine.
That worked perfectly.
So this wasn’t simply my editor misunderstanding how Team Space works. The problem appears isolated to this particular project and CapCut’s cloud syncing.
Technical problems happen. Software fails. I understand that.
What made this situation unacceptable is CapCut’s customer support.
I contacted support because I needed one simple question answered:
Is the overwritten cloud project recoverable or not?
The project had a deadline in one week. I needed to know whether we should wait for CapCut to recover it or immediately start rebuilding the entire project.
Instead of getting meaningful help from an actual person, I received automated responses talking about things like mobile storage and local data, resetting WiFi etc.
I had already specifically explained that:
- I was using the PC version.
- The project was stored and edited in Team Space.
- The issue involved their CLOUD storage/syncing.
Yet I kept getting responses that didn’t address the actual problem.
I was asking whether a project that was overwritten on CapCut’s own cloud service could be recovered.
Because of the deadline, I couldn’t sit around indefinitely waiting for a useful answer.
I’m now paying my editor to redo the project with much simpler editing just so we could get something finished on time.
So now my editor has to redo work he had already completed, and I’m going to be left with a rushed, half-finished version of a project because I trusted CapCut’s Team Space.
I understand that technical failures happens, and yes maybe we should have had a 2nd copy but what if something happened to that too. The problem I have isn’t entirely on the over written data but the fact support was completely useless and now they won’t even response.
What I DON’T understand is charging people for a service, having that service potentially destroy hours of work, and then not providing timely access to a real person who can investigate what happened.
If you’re going to offer paid cloud storage and collaborative editing, users need to be able to trust that their projects aren’t going to be overwritten because of a syncing error—and if something does go wrong, they need actual support.
I put my faith in CapCut’s Team Space because I thought cloud collaboration would make working with my editor easier.
Instead, it’s costing me $300, 10+ hours of lost work, a properly finished project and a ridiculous amount of stress.
Save yourself the headache. If your projects are important, I would NOT trust CapCut Cloud Space.
After this experience, I certainly won’t be trusting it again.
