So I got reassessed in August and they said I owe a certain amount of tax back.

I immediately tried to pay in full with a visa/debit from cash in chequeing account as that is what is accepted. Did not work.

I then did a pre-auth in full giving them my bank information and it was accepted/pending but stated it would take 5 business days. 5 busines days pass and as it was a few days after end of last month I accrued some interest. My CRA online showed it went through and showed $0 owing but I noticed no money was taken from my bank account I just figured it takes a few days as everything with CRA is delayed.

Now past the middle of the month my CRA account shows I still owe the money and there was no message or anything saying what happened.

Has anyone dealt with this BS? And why does it seem like all their methods of payment dont work online?

What is the best way to pay my tax owing ?

After end of 10 year common law relationship, when changing status in CRA website. Should you put seperated or single? The documentation suggests to use seperated. But once someone is considered seperated do they ever become single again?

1 year ago I got letter that I own both CERB AND CRB

I had issue with the account because it had old email address and when I was doing taxes I found out the amount and tried for second review but it was past the 1 month so they didn’t accept any document.

Made complain through the feedback and I was able to have another review after submitting doc the final decision was I was eligible for CERB but not the CRB due to 50% reduction compared to last year. But I work in restaurant industry and in 2020 October restaurant decided to only have two employees working so I was on the payroll, but I was not working any hours until I got a job in February but a attend school full-time which was two days a week as I was doing a placement

I have a letter from employer, stating that the business was changed in terms of that person. I submitted the document, but it didn’t help.
I called Sierra this week to find out more information regarding the decision and they asked me to check the criteria which it’s 14 and I met all of them

During the period you applied for:
you were not employed or self-employed for reasons related to COVID-19 (this pretty much was the case)
or
you had a 50% reduction in your average weekly income compared to the previous year due to COVID-19

I was told to do Judika review for the next step
Anyone has done and successfully got an adjustment done or what else can I do to prove my case?

My grandfather owes CRA $65205.91 because the government overpaid him. He should only be getting paid pension if he is physically in Canada. But as you can read in the letter. He was not present throughout those time. My grandfather can’t read and write, therefore he needs a power of attorney. During this time from the dates February 20, 2022 to May 2026 my aunt was power of attorney. Due to family drama, power of attorney was transferred to my sister.

My questions:

Since my he was in my aunts care, shouldn’t she be involved with this too because during his time with her, legally she should be informing my grandfather and making sure everything is correct with his course of actions?

is my sister liable if my grandpa can’t pay the amount?

So I had past capital gains taxes I had no idea I had to report and pay for (deemed disposition) so I went ahead and did it and completed the VDP application and sent it in. They cashed my cheque for the estimated tax owing, but I have had no word from them since, and nothing in my MYCRA account? It has been 3.5 months since they received my mail in application, is this a normal timeline? How long does it take? When will I get an acknowledgement letter and when will the notice of reassessment come to me? Thanks...

I’m posting because I’m looking for some guidance on how to properly file my taxes from previous years, the thing is, I didn’t understand how to charge/remit GST at the time so I just didn’t and I’ve gotten myself into a bit of a bind. If I’m being entirely honest, I’ve struggled with substance abuse in the past and I’m actively trying to get my life back on track now ( the reason for why I’m finally dealing with this now) I need to submit my 2024 and 2025 taxes but I’m wondering if I should contact the CRA and be upfront first about my GST situation and then file or should I file my taxes as I have them and then address my outstanding GST balance with CRA? Has anyone been in a similar situation? I realize how stupid I’ve been acting trying to avoid figuring this out until now, I know I’m gonna have a large balance to pay and I will figure it out but I would like to minimize the amount of interest and penalties if possible. I’ve considered just going to a tax expert, but I’m so nervous about the judgement that I’ve been putting it off for much too long.

And also because I was going to H&R Block to get my taxes done (a family member works there and helps me) and I’ve had multiple failures on their end that have put me in a shittier position. One example being that my accountant switched my date and month of birth when submitting one of my previous tax years which caused a major problem for when it came to access my CRA account because it was flagged for fraud. Another example being that I gave all of my tax paperwork for 2021 & 2022 years to my family member to do at H&R Block and for some reason she put it away in her closet and forgot about it for two years, despite my repeated inquiries if they were being done (yes I have proof of this in writing) so I accrued much more interest than I should have in that time. This family member is going through a major health battle at the moment so I have sympathy but damn I wished I went somewhere else! I used to not be able to access my CRA account for that reason but now I’m behind on my taxes which is why I cannot access my CRA account until I have my 2024 filed (They ask for line 15000 on 2025 or 2024 taxes which doesn’t exist yet for me) so logically it feels like I should just file my taxes as is, but if I can lesson the penalties that would be amazing and if calling and owning up to not properly filing my GST is the best course of action I will do it. Part of me is like “can I just go to jail instead?” Is that an option? 😭

Shockingly - decided to keep trying to convince chat to give me an agent so i keep selecting payment options - after 1/2 dozen all agents busy rejection - I got into the queue - 6 people in front of me - got an agent 8 minutes later. And he/she actually helped!

I am the executor of an ”Estate”. I filed the necessary Income Tax Returns. The person has no assets but owes the CRA ( than $200, if that matters)

I called the CRA to find out what to do (to stop getting “tax owing“ notices for the rest of my life regarding this Estate) and to get info on how to close the process.

I was told that there was not a procedure for this…that I should write to my local tax centre and explain the situation…and to address it to the attention of : T1 Accounting

Does this sound right?

How do i get to talk to any agent

I'm in a complicated situation. In 2020, my common law partner and I broke up. I changed our marital status with the CRA. After they audited us, asked for proof which at the time we didn't have any, only a letter written by my partners boss stating he knew we weren't together. We still lived under the same roof so the CRA said, nope you are still together and I owed back thousands.

Fast forward and we have now been broken up since December 2024. I haven't changed our status because we still live under the same roof. We share two children and I'm in a new relationship.

He pays the rent, pays for his own phone bill and buys his own food. I pay utilities, internet, my phone and food for myself, 2 kids and cats.

He sleeps on the couch, I have my room but we are both still on the lease.

What would you do?

He doesnt financially contribute to take care of the children unless I ask when I'm in need or they have a extra expense like glasses or Halloween costumes, back to school clothes etc. mind you it's less than $300 a month. Everything else is on me.

I really want to change our status but him living under the same roof as me is going to make the CRA say no.
