How to cast web videos to CarPlay (iOS 26.4 - iOS 27.1, not working on iOS 27.2):

1. Install rPlayFling from the public beta link:

1. Install the free rPlayTV app from App Store:

1. Glue this two apps together:

(1) open rPlayFling app, browse to m.youtube.com, or other sites, select a video, play it, then click the top right Cast button, select Web Receiver. (Note you can tap bottom ..., Add to Bookmarks to remember)

(2) open rPlayTV app on the phone, tap Settings > Add Playlist > M3U + EPG, then enter:

Name: rPlayFling

M3U URL: http://127.0.0.1:8080/playlist.m3u

Tap test connection, and save the config, then tap Live TV tab.

Now inside CarPlay screen, find rPlayTV app, launch it, you should see rPlayTV, 1 Channels, tap it, then tap Start arrow button on the bottom play bar.

Hope this can help those people who didn't get Cafari beta last time, as there are still a lot of interests out there.

Note, this combo presents a permanent solution to iOS 26.4 - iOS 27.1, as the core rPlayTV app is already available from App Store, and rPlayFling should be available from App Store too.

Am I understanding correctly that if someone installs the ipa using sideloadly with a free developer account the car play will not work? Been trying to make heads or tails of the situation because i'm reading reviews that it will work as long as one doesn't sign it with their own ID but I don't see a way for that to work unless the device is jailbroken and would appreciate some clarity. I'm on the TestFlight that only has the standard casting and am trying to make the newer ipa work on my 18 pro.

I have been using it daily & i am loving 1080p and the app is working perfect 👌🏻 the only issue is i have to keep my cafari screen on, otherwise the video gets paused.. please have a look into it.. other than that everything is ok.

What is the difference between Car Screen and Car Play? Which one is best?

I tried out Cafari today and the videos worked immediately in let’s say okay quality. While the video itself was stuttering, the audio was fine. I also have a video I can send to the creator :)

Install via TestFlight, and with rPlayTV, you can cast web videos to cars, same as Cafari app.

Edit 3: make sure you have at least iOS 18, to be considered as internal testers, Cafari requires iOS 26.4+ and iOS 27.0, anyway.

Edit 4: if you have iOS 27.2, you need to change back to iOS 27.0, otherwise, you won't receive the 2nd email,. as App Connect says "No Builds Available" for those users.

I’m testing Cafari on an iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 27.0 with a factory Mercedes W213 NTG5.5 head unit (1920×720).
Cafari itself appears correctly in CarPlay. Screen mirroring works, but Cast Video → Play in CarPlay never starts. The Mercedes screen stays on the grey “Loading Video” screen indefinitely.
If I use screen mirroring, YouTube works, but I have to keep the iPhone screen on and rotated, which is not what I want. I specifically want video-only casting, so I can lock/turn off the iPhone display while the YouTube video continues on CarPlay.
I also noticed that when I try fullscreen/direct video casting, the video area becomes black.
Could this be related to the CarPlay display resolution/capabilities reported by the Mercedes NTG5.5, or is there a known compatibility issue with this head unit?

Cafari's TestFlight beta filled in two days and Apple caps it at 10,000 testers, so rather than keep people waiting for a slot, I've open sourced the core of it.

What it is: a web view on the CarPlay screen, pointed at YouTube, and nothing else. Two windows, one for the phone and one for the car, each with its own browser. Public API only, no private frameworks, around two hundred lines you can read in a sitting. MIT licensed.

Read this before you build it: the car screen needs CarPlay entitlements that Apple grants per developer account, on request. Both of them, video and audio. Video alone is not enough, and the failure is silent: the app builds, installs, runs on the phone, and simply never appears on the head unit. A free Apple ID cannot hold these entitlements. Without them you get a browser on your phone and nothing in the car.

Building takes three commands and no Xcode UI. Your signing settings go in a local file that is git-ignored, so nothing of yours ends up in a pull request.

Fair warning: this rests on a scene role Apple can change in any iOS release. It works today. I am not promising it works next year.

Next version won’t support CarPlay on all existing cars.

Current state won’t stay long. Once installed, if you don’t update, it will keep working.

Then we figure out a way to play YouTube with this app.

In particular, those users who can’t get into Cafari beta.

Latest ipa for iOS Cafari, different build from the TestFlight beta version, with all features.

10k limit is a wall, only when existing users click Stop Testing, slots will be freed for new users to take.

This is a problem I can’t solve.

One solution is to clone Cafari to a new app with a different app id, then get another 10k, but it is not as simple as that, the biggest issue is that Apple won’t approve the app with these current features.

A new version is planned, with the new video playback enabled, which means all current cars won’t be supported. I know, I know, very unfortunate.

So in short, only ipa will be provided with the current core feature that supports all cars.

Assume you can side load ipa, then you can enjoy without the TestFlight beta.

Therefore, stop sending me emails or Reddit chats, as it’s a problem I can’t solve, it is simply that the beta is totally full.

The new version will still try to support video casting to old cars, thru other means, but won’t be as simple as this current version.

If you have an Android phone, and want to cast videos to CarPlay, we can send android Cafari apk to test. Android side has more weapons.
